I'm thinking cases will start emerging around now of cases that were spread by Christmas mixing?

No, none.

Dragonsg · 01/01/2021 08:01

No. Though I’ve only known of 3 cases so far and I work in a huge city with thousands at my company

tigertummy · 01/01/2021 08:01

Sadly yes, 2 separate friends and the people they spent Christmas with

KihoBebiluPute · 01/01/2021 08:02

I would expect the spike around 2nd/3rd Jan but given the weekend it won't be announced in the stats till about Wednesday.

Onlycakesshouldhavetiers · 01/01/2021 08:04

A ,parent and child from an asymptomatic carrier

I know two people who are currently isolating but so far haven't developed symptoms. Fingers crossed they will be ok.

DiscontentedWoman · 01/01/2021 08:06

No-one

FourTeaFallOut · 01/01/2021 08:06

5 days to incubate, two days to hit the 'oh shit' symptom button, one day to test, one day to result. Give it a few days, I suppose. Then we'll cross our fingers and hope for the best.

Grooticle · 01/01/2021 08:10

Not yet, will take a bit longer. Will start to show up in the test results in the next couple of weeks.

bigcheesematrix · 01/01/2021 08:11

I know 2 separate people that are now isolating for 14 days because the people they spent Xmas day with later tested positive.

It really isn’t clear to me that there will be a spike in case numbers. The risk I think is that cases move up the age ranges. For everyone that has mixed with family, there has also been a reduction in contracts due to stopping work and school for Christmas. Will have to wait and see how it plays out.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 01/01/2021 08:19

That’s assuming people only mixed on Christmas Day. Many will have done so for the whole time and then many more at new year.

Yes, you're right. It could go either way. The huge deaths resulting now are going to be from cases pre schools breaking up?

No but I don’t really know many people that mixed

Yes, although she is a uni student going home to her parents, so she travelled back earlier when her term ended.

Unfortunately her dad developed symptoms about 24 hours after she got home (and tested +), and then she tested + about a week later on Christmas week.

So Christmas mixing ... but not just the one day etc.

pandasarecute · 01/01/2021 08:24

Yes I do, just had a text from another member of staff where I teach. Her brother was tested on Boxing Day, she developed symptoms on Wednesday and has just had a positive test. We're a small school, 3 of our staff also received shielding texts so with the usual absences due to other reasons are now struggling to fully open on Monday....

InTheLongGrass · 01/01/2021 08:25

No, but our town, and the next one over have had massive spikes in positive tests - from ca 40 per day to nearly 200 per day in both areas. Dont know if that's an artifact of reduced processing over Christmas, or increased mixing over Christmas tho.

I thought that was part of the logic when they initially said they'd allow a few days, as long as it was the same 3 households. That actually they'd be less mixing overall.

I think the bit they weren't making clear was it needed to be the same 3 households, not every household seeing another 2.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 01/01/2021 08:30

Not from Xmas yet but LOADS from schools pre Christmas! Including a student (who I know from my daughters Snapchat has been flouting rules left, right and centre) who went home and has infected her whole family. Also know 2 doctors (consultants - one a respiratory one) - who due to school, work and catching the virus have been either isolating due to exposure or illness for almost the entirety of Dec. I can't imagine they're unusual and so it's no wonder the NHS is struggling for staff!!

Can I be nosy and ask what area of the country you are in?

Wherediditgo · 01/01/2021 08:34

I don’t know of anyone either.

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/01/2021 08:37

I think 4-10 days before symptoms start, test, 2 days for results, another 8 days until people need hospitalisation, about 20ish days our death rate will be even higher.

MistletoeandGin · 01/01/2021 08:37

No not yet.
We only saw my mum for Christmas who lives alone so is our support bubble anyway, but even if we’d been another family our contacts would have been far reduced over Christmas than normal due to the DC not being at school for 2 weeks. Also DH didn’t do any work site visits, I wasn’t doing the school run... I’d imagine overall our contacts were reduced by 100’s.
