Do you know of any people who have tested positive as a result of Christmas Day mixing?

I'm thinking cases will start emerging around now of cases that were spread by Christmas mixing?

We have Covid, but tested positive just pre Christmas as has our support bubble. DH is in hospital with it, the only place he had been was the supermarket and the school to drop and pick up the kids outside, he was the first one to get it.

I wish the government would drop the 3 symptom thing. My friend had none of them. I think whenever anyone is feeling unwell they should get a test. The symptoms are so varied and it is spreading so rapidly.

There are far fewer stomach bugs and colds about, due to currents. I really don't think it would be too much to ask of the testing infrastructure. After all, they keep positing the idea of testing well people.

I'm sure we would be in a better position now if all unwell people tested. It is ludicrous that we are still working on 3 symptoms. One of the many embarrassments.

megletthesecond · 01/01/2021 10:14

vel yy, the "I've just got a bad cold" tribe on FB make me wince.

Agoodbriskwalk · 01/01/2021 10:18

I think the schools closing might slow the spread.

But they’re not closed. They’re open to hundreds of thousands of kids in 2 days’ time. Confused

Schools have been shut for two weeks and infection rates are soaring.

@Aurorie11 Thankfully for my Mum it was relatively peaceful and she died in her sleep At least that is something to hang on to. I hope you have a better 2021.

Chocolatericecakes · 01/01/2021 10:28

Yes. SIL had her normal Christmas day with 15+ in-laws. Most now have symptoms and tests are coming back positive, one was hospitalised yesterday. They can't understand it as they kept the back door open!

maxxyboy · 01/01/2021 10:29

I know someone who began feeling ill Boxing Day and she's tested positive.
I'm assuming she caught it before Xmas tho

Marpan · 01/01/2021 10:32

I seen a girl on the internet rambling on about how she had symptoms at the weekend (before Christmas) got a test, proceeded to have Christmas with aunties uncles parents etc and then tested positive on Boxing Day.

Someone in my husbands work also went out gallivanting while waiting on a positive result.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE? It’s so ignorant.

Said internet girl is now claiming her 10 days isolation is up from when symptoms started even though she is still sick. People are either full of importance or don’t interpret the instructions correctly. People who are knowingly positive are spreading this.

It’s beyond me how the police don’t just sit on the internet watching these idiots and throw out the fines.

LilQueenie · 01/01/2021 10:35

yes my sister though we believe from boxing day which I think comes under Christmas mixing.

TableFlowerss · 01/01/2021 10:35

Yep I know 4 people who’ve had it. 2 in their 70’s, one in 40’s one in 50’s.

All felt shit but all fine now. No hospital admission, just lots of rest.

TableFlowerss · 01/01/2021 10:36

Oh and another one in their 30’s who didn’t know she had it until she had an antibody test

I think she might be right about the 10 days being up though, I think the guidance says the cough might persist for weeks but as long as you don’t have a temperature anymore you can stop isolating. My lack of smell/taste lasted about 3 weeks.
modgepodge · 01/01/2021 10:39

Oh I just checked and it has been updated to include diarrhoea, sickness, runny nose or sneezing as reasons to extend the isolation. I’d have thought D&v would be an obvious reason to stay home even in non covid times, but can see runny nose and sneezing needed to be added.

strawbmilk · 01/01/2021 10:40

Not yet but know people who are isolating due to someone they spent Christmas with showing symptoms on the 26th and testing positive on the 27th.

Inkpaperstars · 01/01/2021 10:40

I don’t know anyone who went ahead with Xmas mixing plans but I know of several who cancelled plans to meet and the younger generation have since tested positive, in some cases are really poorly, so they are just so relieved they did cancel as they likely would have been infectious at Christmas. It makes sense to think there are those in a similar position who didn’t cancel. Sadly.

Rainb0wDrops · 01/01/2021 10:48

No but we were in tier 4 and I don't know anyone who has admitted to breaking the rules

LacyEdge · 01/01/2021 10:51

Re the case rate soaring despite schools being closed:

That still doesn’t mean schools aren’t driving community spread. Any reduction caused by schools closing for the holidays has been cancelled out by increased mixing over the Christmas period. The graphs showing a near-vertical case rate rise from the beginning of September are probably a fairer way to check the effects of fully open schools with no safety measures or mitigation.

Mustbe3ormorecharacters · 01/01/2021 11:01

Yes but not in the U.K.

FlippinNoah · 01/01/2021 11:02

Yes I know of someone. 2 households mixed on Christmas day - 4 of the 6 people have since tested positive. One of those 4 also tested positive in March.

Marmite17 · 01/01/2021 11:51

I only know friends of friends who've had it, and rates are booming here (East Anglia)
BUT I think there is some cherry picking as to which rules to follow more strictly And some very judgy victim blaming thinking. Plus some rules are illogical.
Cherry picking/ illogical: OK to ask for a lift but sticking to no visiting/ visitor rule. Taxi's- think drivers should be tested- perhaps only used for essential journeys? Particular issue in rural areas.
Judgy: Will only use click and collect/ farm shops in order not to spread the plague. Implying that people who use supermarkets are. Bit smug as not everyone has own transport/ is able to use internet. But OK to see relative who works in a busy office environment in another part of then high risk UK. (Before tier 4 here so not breaking rules)
No evidence that children are not speading new variant. Heard of many teachers being ill but no data. Testing for school staff? Seems rare for children to be v ill but teachers have extended families/ rights tbh.
Plus supply teachers are zero hours and work a range of sites- so could have contact with many adults, across several sites, in a week.
For supply, testing, guaranteed financial suppport if positive? Tbh many zero hours workers generally soldier on when ill if it's their only source of income/ they want more work with the agency.
It's different now- could be spreading more than a sore throat. Many may not know that they are positive.
So need to look at schools, especially staffing, re spread.
Plus support for people generally working zero hours.

endofthelinefinally · 01/01/2021 11:54

It's a bit early. Give it a few more days for the Christmas day related peak, then mid January for the NYE lot.

ArnoldBee · 01/01/2021 12:11

Yes - student had just finished a and e rotation and went home to her family. Her symptoms started on Christmas day...

user1471479662 · 01/01/2021 13:57

He was tested positive on Christmas Day. Was taken to hospital straight away.
Yes, very quick.

binkyblinky · 01/01/2021 14:12

My friends mum sadly died on Xmas day from it ☹️
