Do you know of any people who have tested positive as a result of Christmas Day mixing?

I'm thinking cases will start emerging around now of cases that were spread by Christmas mixing?

It's probably a little early for a spike from Christmas. I am pretty sure I contracted Covid19 on 16th Dec, tested positive on 24th Dec. I'm pulling through ok though.

hellsbells99 · 01/01/2021 08:39

Yes cousin’s family. They had the rapid tests on Xmas Eve - all negative. 5 adults met (and 2 little ones). 2 of the adults have since got symptoms - 3 have tested positive and 2 are waiting for results.

Yes 2. One died yesterday.

LadyCatStark · 01/01/2021 08:44

No but then I don’t personally know anyone who’s tested positive ever either.

modgepodge · 01/01/2021 08:45

Nope. But then I only know of 2 gatherings, both legal, as most of my friends live in tier 4 areas and followed the rules.

If schools are the issue they are currently being made out to be, wouldn’t we expect 2 weeks of them being closed to have a bigger impact than a single day of up to 3 families gathering?

1 friend and her entire family of 8

ShinyGreenElephant · 01/01/2021 08:48

My best friend just has, didn't even mix but her thick boyfriend picked the kids presents up from his mums who was positive (claims he wore a mask and didnt go inside the house). I told her to leave them a couple of days / spray them / just bloody wait but he rules the roost and his precious mother HAD to see a video of them opening them Christmas Day. Now they're all sick, hes taken to his bed and she's trying to juggle 3 kids while pregnant and feeling awful.

lovelemoncurd · 01/01/2021 08:49

@hellsbells99 just goes to show that schools should not put their trust in rapid tests. I think they are going to lead to inaccurate results and more risky behaviour as people trust them. 😥

ihatethecold · 01/01/2021 08:49

Surely the one that died yesterday wasn’t infected on Xmas day. That’s very quick.

Babana123 · 01/01/2021 08:50

Yes. A family of parents, children and grandparents. All spent Christmas Day together (having not seen each other for weeks). Now all are positive.

shittestxmasever · 01/01/2021 08:51

DS got it when visiting his dad for his pre-Xmas visit if that counts.

Lifeispassingby · 01/01/2021 08:53

I know 2 separate households who had COVID over Xmas, 1 had cancelled family as tier 4 came in, the other ignored tier 4 and mixed with 2 other households and now all 10 of them have COVID

This is puzzling me too.

657user · 01/01/2021 08:54

Yes, I know a family of 6 that caught it Christmas Day. Luckily the two young children that were there tested negative

Helpel · 01/01/2021 08:55

Me and my husband caught it just before Christmas, unsure how but we are both out working and kids at school, so who knows. But... when we did contact tracing we only named 6 people who had been in close contact with us as we had finished work for christmas (our bubble, cleaner, 1 friend). Also out of interest the kids hadn't seen anyone other than the same 6 people as school had finished. If it had been a week earlier we would have had 70 or 80 possible contact points between us, as the kids would have been mixing and we would see many more people at work. If anything, surely we should see a reduction of cases due to the Christmas break, despite the 3 household mixing allowance, because most other, much more grand scale, mixing had stopped??

PimlicoJo · 01/01/2021 08:55

Yes, 5 from a group of 8. Three households who mixed on Xmas Day even though in Tier 4 they shouldn't have.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 01/01/2021 08:56

I know of two people self isolating because the person they were with at Christmas tested positive...both over 70. I just hope they don't develop symptoms.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 01/01/2021 08:56

@Bikingbear Essex - where I know loads of people catching/having covid is south Essex (as you'd expect right now!) - I've moved to North Essex where fortunately rates are lower.

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 01/01/2021 08:57

Yes one family but I haven't been talking to many people. Their terminally ill father is so far negative thank goodness but 3 members of the party are sick.

Northernsoullover · 01/01/2021 08:59

Yes, two families. 8 people. 3 are positive and the others are isolating. They didn't do anything that wasn't allowed but it certainly wasn't wise. I remember looking at the photos and thinking 'I hope none of you have covid'.
That said most of the people I know didn't mix at all over Christmas. Despite it being permitted.

queenofkale · 01/01/2021 08:59

Not Christmas day but I do know one family where a youngish couple left London on the day of the Tier 4 announcement and traveled to stay with her patents in there 70s and have both since tested positive - so they are now isolating in one room of the house waiting to see if they have given it to her parents who are in doubtably high risk.

Nonamesavail · 01/01/2021 08:59

Nope

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 01/01/2021 09:02

Personally, none that I know about.

But look at the record numbers testing positive in the last few days. That's exactly the right time for it to be showing isnt it?

)There are a similar number of personal trainers in the UK as there were positive tests yesterday. I don't know any PTs personally either, but I bet people who are more sporty know loads)

Am I reading right? Someone knowingly had covid and they still went ahead anyway?
