*I feel like a lot conversations I'm having seem to turn in to pessimism competitions 😂

1.Should be OK by Spring
2.Spring? Wow you're optimistic. Spring 2022 maybe.
3.2022? Ha, very optimistic. Perhaps there'll be a small uptick in wellbeing in the 30s if we all follow the rules

  1. 30s? Pah! Not in our lifetime
Etc etc

Bore off!!*

Haha! I think this pretty much sums up 99% of the threads on mumsnet. Luckily, I’m finding people in real life are a lot more optimistic.

I feel like last Summer was ok, we ate out, I went on holiday. Saw friends and family. And that was with no vaccine. So I fail to see why the negative people are saying it won’t be much better by this summer, with a vaccine!

@TeaInTheGarden

Happy new year positive peeps! Thought you lot may like this that I just saw on FB....
Love this

Well said. By next summer we will not only have numerous vaccines but better treatments, more immunity from people having had it and a better understanding of it (so eg we are now fairly confident immunity does actually last more than a couple of months).

I think some people (am I allowed to say mostly women?) want to froth up about lots of things. They are not however going to keep their children in or not allow play dates, unnecessary trips to the supermarkets family en masse. They just want to worry and get other people to do the same thing.

They just like to spread their doom and gloom to draw attention to themselves and their hatred of the government. They don’t have any better ideas, they just want to moan and whine. There is a Brexit thread where people are hand wringing and saying their grandchildren’s lives are completely destroyed (as if they have sort of crystal ball).

Eventually this will pass and the UK will come roaring back. I have lots of plans and I hope the doom and gloomers do too.

I welled up just thinking about it. Thank you 😊

Summer was fine for us. We went out locally, the weather was beautiful, had lots of family cycle rides. Visited GP’s in their gardens. It all felt ok.

With a vaccine the coming summer is very rosy.

thatgingergirl · 01/01/2021 12:11

Thank goodness for this thread! So much negativity elsewhere. Here's to 2021!

FuzzyPuffling · 01/01/2021 12:15

Our summer wasn't great...as soon as the world opened up the tourists flooded down here and we felt we had to retreat again. But with a vaccine that scenario shouldn't happen ( or feel so risky) so roll on this summer!
Happy New year everyone. And it will be. No pandemic has ever lasted for ever!!

Yes summer was nice for me too. I had two holidays - it wasn't like normal but I ate nice food, saw a close friend and did masses of walking. I remember thinking if this is all we get in summer 2021 it will still be enriching and fun. I then spent ages isolating before and after major surgery and it was tough but that was an unusual situation. Most people aren't in that boat. I will be moving house this summer and having a fresh start and I have no doubt there will be lots of ways to connect with people even if it's mostly done outside.

Manzanilla55 · 01/01/2021 12:20

I am just going to read this thread from now on. For my sanity's sake! Thank you everybody for your positivity!

ChristmasinJune · 01/01/2021 13:24

I could definitely cope if this summer was like last summer, we had a lovely time and didn't really feel like we were living under restrictions.... the weather helped though.

I do agree. We live in a tourist area too and the beaches were flooded with tourists, but we know loads of secret beaches so we were ok. It was frustrating, but we worked round it.
FuzzyPuffling · 01/01/2021 14:16

We managed to get a fair number of bodyboarding sessions in before the tourists got up! I can't wait to get in the sea again.

Summer was a bit crappy for us. We didn't go anywhere as Dh cev and we couldn't let down our guard. But at least the weather was generally lovely and the evenings are long. And we are lucky to have a small garden.

My good news is:-

Tokyo 2020: Olympics and Paralympics will go ahead, says Japan's PM amid rising infections www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/55506388

As referenced upthread in fb post.

India have approved the Oxford vaccine, roll out to begin next week.

This is great news. I suspect there's been much suffering in India, I hope this helps.

TeaInTheGarden · 02/01/2021 00:09

Great news for India!
Let’s hope Europe and the US get onboard soon.
John Campbell seems pretty cross with them both for not being quicker on this!

TeaInTheGarden · 02/01/2021 00:10

John Campbell also convinced the strategy to delay second dose of vaccine is a good idea. He talks about that in today’s video.

chri55ie · 02/01/2021 16:58

And according to the Telegraph there are millions of doses frozen and ready to go. I’ve been feeling a bit anxious recently and hoping to feel better once they get these mass vaccination centres up and running!

DontWalkPastTheCastle · 02/01/2021 17:00

Same here, it's been a tough few days for us Positivistas (as I have named us 😆)

TheChineseChicken · 02/01/2021 17:24
Thank fuck for that
TheChineseChicken · 02/01/2021 17:25

Today feels really shitty - I have a primary school aged child so all the noise about that is very stressful. So any good news is welcome and lots of vaccine doses is as good as it gets

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/01/2021 17:28

Me too. High infection rates here and primary schools open on Monday.

Looking for positives.
