I've only just found the positive team, thought I'd lost you!

@Spiratedaway

Feeling defeated today read an article going to take 5 years to get Bach to normal I feel horrendous any more good news ?
What is meant by normal though? I mean I'm guessing low level caution will stick around for quite a while. People will be encouraged to keep their distance, wear masks, walk hands, ventilate stuffy spaces etc for a good while but we'll just become used to that. As pp said, economic recovery could also take five years. We won't be in lockdown 37 panicking about the latest strain in five years time though, I'm quite confident of that.
Bathroom12345 · 02/01/2021 23:26

I like the idea of using a mask if I have a cold. Some people are completely disgusting and sniff and sneeze everywhere. I haven’t had a cold this year at all, must be all the hand washing!

Those school threads are horrendous. Think there are more than a few teachers on them (or maybe it’s one person with different user names!)

BooksAreNotEssentialInWales · 02/01/2021 23:30

Thank you for the lovely positive news. I’m so pleased that the Oxford vaccine has been approved. It’s our way to unlock again. I’m hoping by March the worst will be behind us and by 2022 we will be in the roaring 20s mark 2.

Yep!

TheChineseChicken · 03/01/2021 07:49

Had a bad night’s sleep due to school anxiety. I actually think if I didn’t use mumsnet I wouldn’t be worrying about it in the same way (is that a good thing?).

Anyway, going to try to be more positive today as it’s DH’s last day of Christmas holidays before going back to work tomorrow lucky bugger

I actually think we’re doing pretty well with vaccinations and certainly better than many other European countries and the US, not that it’s a competition. The media doesn’t like to report anything positive though so all we get is moaning about rollout. The latest I have seen is complaints about the red tape involved in becoming a vaccinator. Can you imagine the outrage if it were too easy?!

MarshaBradyo · 03/01/2021 08:01

Chinese which area / tier are you in?

It’s hard to post on here in general as it’s so overrun atm

TheChineseChicken · 03/01/2021 08:11

We’re tier 4 but I think mostly due to geography as our rate is (relatively) low at about 240/100,000. No cases in the local primary or secondary so far although I know that could easily change, but both are well managed and have good covid mitigation measures. So I think DC’s school is as secure as it can be bar masks for pupils and teachers

Yes agree re. A bit of gate keeping for vaccinators. I know the courses they are complaining about as I do them annually myself and they take maybe 20mins each. I think they could reduce the list a bit but there needs to be proof of a bit of competence too. Imagine a dosing error ( as has happened in Germany already) everyone would be screaming were there no checks! Etc etc

So true! I’m NHS and all the ‘courses’ you have to do could be completed in one morning, they are just online education and quiz.

Yeah, I read about that. They got the entire vial and 5/6 doses at once - good to know there were no adverse effects, although I don't think anyone has checked to see if they haven't bought aaaallll the Microsoft office products now Wink

Crikey, that’s quite an error!
TeenPlusTwenties · 03/01/2021 08:52

My DF's second dose of vaccine due on Tue was cancelled yesterday.

But an hour after they had that call, my DM was called for her first dose on Tuesday. Smile

So now they will both at least have some protection (shielding since March)

sashagabadon · 03/01/2021 08:58

That’s brilliant Teen. Possibly your mum got your dad’s second dose, not literally of course Smile

TeenPlusTwenties · 03/01/2021 09:02

Dad had been saying prior to the phone calls that Mum could impersonate him at his appointment. Smile

thatgingergirl · 03/01/2021 09:05

That's good to hear Teen. I'm so hoping my parents will get their invite this week.

TeenPlusTwenties · 03/01/2021 09:06

Mine are 90, and 84 CEV.

TheChineseChicken · 03/01/2021 09:19

So pleased for them / you
EngineeringFix · 03/01/2021 09:21

I do think giving more people the first shot and postponing the second dose whilst crossing fingers for future supplies is a real world solution to a public health crisis.

But I'm not an expert just an engineer by training so the scientists will maybe roll their eyes at that response!

TeaInTheGarden · 03/01/2021 09:23

@TeenPlusTwenties that’s such a good example of why this is a good plan- far better they are both protected in the short term rather than one boosted and the other totally unprotected 💕

Spiratedaway · 03/01/2021 09:26

@ChristmasinJune @Wherediditgo

Normal as in hugging my family /going to the pub without a mask and back to the office again, soft play with my kids and my friends wedding , normal when social distancing ends and masks can be burnt ... I just can't do this anymore so this thread keeps me going

thatgingergirl · 03/01/2021 09:53

Oh, shielding all that time Teen - I hope it hasn't been to difficult for them.

I read that our area should start roll out tomorrow and guess DM and DF will be invited fairly early - mum will be 86 in a couple of weeks and dad will be 89 next month. I've no problem with a single initial dose regime - it makes sense to me.

So looking forward to late summer and hoping I can take my parents to the coast for a few days!

TeenPlusTwenties · 03/01/2021 10:00

thatginger They have managed surprisingly well, they weren't massively social people before so haven't minded not seeing people.

My DB got them set up with Tesco online just before lockdown, and they now manage the whole process themselves, and we recently, finally, sorted zoom for them too.

I saw them twice in August (which put my mind at rest a lot) when we could chat in the garden and they let me inside to use the loo. DF promised not to go up ladders during lockdown 1 but was cleaning gutters in Sept (!)

Crazycatlady83 · 03/01/2021 10:10

@Spiratedaway maybe they mean “back to normal” as in the immediate effects on the economy will have died down by then? (Although obviously the effects on the economy will take many many years to work out)

As people aren’t complying now, I highly doubt they will comply in 5 years time. I think by March we will have an easing in restrictions and the Summer will be pretty near normal (holidays abroad, lunches in pubs, meeting with friends)

I think some people like scaremongering and the drama of lockdown. I try to keep that in mind when I read some of the other threads - some people just are unable to listen to reason!

TheChineseChicken · 03/01/2021 10:24

Does anyone know is there is a detailed UK or England vaccine tracker that provides a breakdown by risk / priority group?
