John Campbell on YouTube- he did a great positive video yesterday

Benjispruce2 · 05/01/2021 16:59

Love John Campbell too!

Delatron · 05/01/2021 17:22

Such a positive video.
It’s frustrating to hear people continually claim there will be no lasting immunity and antibodies don’t last blah blah. There’s so much we don’t know but I do think the fact that people still have T-cell immunity 17 years later from SARS is so encouraging.

I think t-cells are important here too. That study is very encouraging and more so for vaccines!

Crazycatlady83 · 05/01/2021 17:25

1.3 million people vaccinated in UK (figures just out!) Daily figures to be reported from Monday (source - coronavirus good news Twitter!)

FourTeaFallOut · 05/01/2021 17:27

Daily figures to be reported from Monday

That would be great.

Crazycatlady83 · 05/01/2021 17:28

Apparently over a quarter of over 80s have received the first dose of the vaccine

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2021 17:30

Listening to press conference I’m reminded again how lucky we are to have such good scientific knowledge and scientists up against this

boon · 05/01/2021 17:33

John Campbell is brilliant! His vlogs on Youtube are so calm and he explains everything so well. His vlogs and thus thread are whats getting me through right now.

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 05/01/2021 17:35

1 in 4 over 80s is very good

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 05/01/2021 17:37

I was watching the press conference too - I think Whitty spoke very well and was very reassuring. I liked his explanation of how we will lower the risk the virus poses over time until we reach a stage where Covid is like flu. Yes people will still die but it will be a manageable amount and society won't need to act in the way we don't act with flu. People have voiced similar on here and had a good ticking off and have been told it's devastating when 90 year olds die. He was saying about some measures possibly being needed next winter but I could cope with that if things are drastically different to now and it was a short term thing. He was also saying he thought the vaccination timeframe was realistic and I think he can err on the side of pessmimism in some ways, so that's a huge positive. It was all reassuring at a time when cases are clearly rising.

thatgingergirl · 05/01/2021 17:49

I like listening to Chris Whitty - he explains things in very clear terms.

Benjispruce2 · 05/01/2021 17:55

Chris Witty is the man.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 05/01/2021 18:05

@Benjispruce2

Chris Witty is the man.
I’m a Van Tam girl personally. He has the best analogies. ❤️
sashagabadon · 05/01/2021 18:10

Yes love Chris. I hope he gets proper public recognition when this is over. At least a Sir, if not a Lord. He’d be great in the house of Lords in a few years. We need more scientists in there. Bet that would embarrass him though and he’d turn it down.

MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2021 18:11

Yes Sir would suit him

Inastatus · 05/01/2021 18:18

Why oh why do I keep looking at the other threads?! I missed the press conference so came in here for the latest and there’s some scaremongerer putting a completely different slant on what Chris Whitty said 😡 I’m grateful to the posters on here for providing a balanced view.

Inastatus · 05/01/2021 18:21

And my positive for the day is that both teen DC’s had a full school day of live lessons which they both engaged with (after the initial trauma of dragging them out of bed on time for them this morning!).

tootyfruitypickle · 05/01/2021 18:34

@Inastatus I watched the entire presser and came away feeling very positive esp from
Whitty. And then I dipped in on the general corona board Hmm

Inastatus · 05/01/2021 18:40

@tootyfruitypickle - I’m definitely hiding it! Glad to hear you thought the press conference was positive - let’s just listen to the experts from now on eh?

tootyfruitypickle · 05/01/2021 18:43

Also Vallance was very calm and positive about adapting vaccines to mutations - didn’t seem like an issue at all and was expected

TheChineseChicken · 05/01/2021 18:45

I didn’t know there was a presser today. Just a general update?

Pomegranatespompom · 05/01/2021 18:46

Just popped on to say I've had my 1st vaccine.
Sorry not read thread as I am avoiding MN.. but maybe I need this thread !

Pomegranatespompom · 05/01/2021 18:47

Chris Whitty is fabulous, people are being vile on the other thread of doom sadly.

sashagabadon · 05/01/2021 18:49

Well done pomegranate. Pfizer or Oxford?

sashagabadon · 05/01/2021 18:51

Should have added Grin
This will be the new divide in society!
