Idiots piling onto packed trains out of London

User158340 · 19/12/2020 21:05

By doing this they're putting whatever family or friends they're staying with at huge risk, not to mention the wider communities.

Also, the mindset of "it's within the rules because it's not midnight yet". It's not within the rules to breach social distancing. For goodness sake the trains are still running tomorrow so if you're going to break or bend the rules do it then when you won't be stood on a carriage with scores of other people.

The trains going north out of Euston and Kings Cross in particular.

People standing in the aisles on trains, platforms rammed full of people.

You mean the people who’ve been told they “face arrest” if they leave London after midnight?

If only the government could have foreseen this entirely unpredictable response.

TheoriginalLEM · 19/12/2020 21:12

Maybe they are going home?

MandosHatHair · 19/12/2020 21:14

Ergh enough already. They are just human beings who do not want to be stranded alone during the worst time of the year to be alone.

scottish83 · 19/12/2020 21:22

Good to see the public finally growing a pair and saying enough is enough.

I can understand that (and I take back calling them idiots) but to spend hours on a packed out train they're putting everyone they're staying with at huge increased risk.

I don’t blame them. The government knew this would happen and yet they went ahead with the decision anyway. Bonkers.

Dominicwestsscooter · 19/12/2020 21:26

There’s no cure for stupidity unfortunately.

shamus2020 · 19/12/2020 21:27

Saw a videos on crimewatch uk fb page of the Anti lockdown riot just after the boris announcement today. Absolute madness!

JamieLeeCurtains · 19/12/2020 21:27

That's what it's like at any mainline railway station out of London at any time ever, though. In fact it's quieter than normal.

I used to travel from Waterloo to Newcastle on Fridays/Saturdays back in the day and it was fucking chaos then tbh.

Vargas · 19/12/2020 21:28

So if they've arrived at the station in good faith and found it busy, they should just go home? Is this what you would do?

WellyBootsAreYouFrom · 19/12/2020 21:28

I got the Inverness bound train out of London Kings Cross on Wednesday and you were not allowed on board without a seat booked, and all booked seats adhered to social distancing rules. I've not clicked the link PP posted above, but that sounds very different to what I experienced.

Yes, but it's not normal, it's a pandemic. Same reason there's only 2,000 people maximum allowed in football stadiums rather than the usual 50 or 60 thousand.

They'll get home for Christmas. Good for them!

I'd have only got on a packed out train if it was a genuine emergency. I'm not going to put myself and my family at such an added risk if it can be avoided.

And I suggest you read my CPAP thread too. I am doing some blaming at the moment. Actions have consequences - perhaps not for you.

People could be in London for all sorts of reasons and panicked because they were told they would be arrested if they leave after tonight. It was completely predictable that this would happen so blame the government making yet another last minute announcement which completely reverses what they said a few days ago. Equally, if you have people outside London who depend on you for whatever reason an announcement that you might be arrested if you leave is going to make you leave while you can. Actually it looks like there will be plenty of exceptions in the legislation which allow you to leave a Tier 4 area anyway but people don't necessarily know that.

It seems unrealistic to expect partially locking London down to prevent a strain of the virus which has already been found in many places in the UK and elsewhere in Europe to prevent it spreading further anyway.

texascactus · 19/12/2020 21:39

Doubt it OP.

Lner only let you travel with seat reservations and the carriages are holding barely any passengers. Much like buses at the moment. Some seats aren’t in use. Have travelled twice in the past few weeks and this has been the case both times.

Don’t be so dramatic.
