Idiots piling onto packed trains out of London

User158340 · 19/12/2020 21:05

By doing this they're putting whatever family or friends they're staying with at huge risk, not to mention the wider communities.

Also, the mindset of "it's within the rules because it's not midnight yet". It's not within the rules to breach social distancing. For goodness sake the trains are still running tomorrow so if you're going to break or bend the rules do it then when you won't be stood on a carriage with scores of other people.

So easy to judge when it isn't you
The problem is that it affects everyone. There's no you who isn't affected when people try to leave hotspots and travel across the country or when people go to parties or when people decide they just have to see their families and they're ok with the risk. Collective responsibility means thinking of other people including the NHS staff who are already struggling and haven't even started to feel the full impact of the new strain of Covid yet; including the teachers who are going to be teaching the child relatives of the people saying the rules don't apply to them.

FractionalGains · 19/12/2020 22:38

Do it over Zoom and help get this damn pandemic under control then we can all move on with our lives

I actually agree people shouldn’t be travelling out of London for Christmas, but I think the issue is people are realising that we aren’t getting this virus under control. Months of restrictions and cases are rising. At this point following the rules doesn’t provide a way out of the pandemic.

Nor does it provide a way out of tier 3 given the places that got rates down and weren’t moved to tier 2.

People just think what’s the point. Thank fuck there’s a vaccine being rolled out because compliance has gone totally to shit.

Hercwasonasnowball · 19/12/2020 22:39

It's not even the Christmas thing that makes it hard. It's having been promised an opportunity to see family/friends and then having that opportunity denied at the last minute due to government incompetence.

Boris' approach throughout has been reactive rather than proactive. He knew about this strain at least 6 days ago. Why not do something then? Instead he was busy instructing his mates to sue councils that tried to close schools to slow the spread.

callistography · 19/12/2020 22:40

Nope. Not going to piss off. I'm northern. I live down south and I can't go home for Christmas due to this. I haven't seen my family in nearly a year due to this. But, you know what - I'm not going to run up north on a train or in a car because I'm not a dick. I'm not going to put my elderly relatives at more risk because of selfish behaviour.

People need to take a long hard look at themselves.

texascactus · 19/12/2020 22:40

@southeastdweller completely agree. It’s coronavirus bingo all in one post.

frumpety · 19/12/2020 22:41

Good for you, OP, good for you. I'm glad you can feel so nice and smug. I'm also really glad you don't face Christmas alone. A lot of people do. If I was faced with Christmas alone or a packed train, I'd choose the train every time.

Any other Mums on here secretly voting Christmas alone ? Like a whole day off with no other people and you don't have to wash and get dressed and feed other people or smile far too much and could just slob out in your pants and watch telly and eat maltesers for lunch and fall asleep whenever you wanted ? Just me then ? Grin

itchyfinger · 19/12/2020 22:41

You're blaming the wrong people OP. The government knew this was coming but decided to announce it today and give people a few hours to get packed and home. The public turning on each other - this post, the mask bullies, the "how dare you queue up for non essential items" makes this whole thing so much worse.

Are you seriously telling me I should be responsible for others, strangers?
PhilCornwall1 · 19/12/2020 22:42
@PhilCornwall1 Bodmin and Nequay ? Tsk ! lightweights ! Asda Hayle or Penzance Morrisons, if they make it that far you should adopt the buggers Wink
I don't want them to get to ASDA Penryn, that's too close for comfort!! 😆

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 22:43

@PhilCornwall1

* Would be interested in stats on this

I reckon a high proportion of second homers will have legged it*

Ah, watch out for me at the next Downing Street press conference.

"Next slide please.... as you can see, it's bleddy rammed in ASDA Bodmin and Newquay, those bastard second homers are flooding Cornwall!!"

Ha!
shamalidacdak · 19/12/2020 22:43

Those are all idiots you are right. Let's see
How many come back intact with having finished off an elderly relative

Butterymuffin · 19/12/2020 22:43

As Harriet Clugston seems now to have realised, being on one of those trains will massively increase the risk of getting the new variant of Covid and also of passing it to the loved ones you can't bear to spend Christmas without. It will be a superspreader situation beyond the ones we've seen already. I feel sorry for the train company staff down to work tonight, who'll be in danger through no fault of their own.

😂 dramatic much.
MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 22:45

I always feel weird when people flood out of London...

I guess it’s better for those left but still gives you that pandemic feeling

LeSangeEstDansLarbre · 19/12/2020 22:45

@Haffiana

Idiots posting about what Other People are doing. Yet again.
If nobody else could feel the impact of one’s actions, this would be a perfectly reasonable stance.

HOWEVER the decisions taken by each of these people have the potential to cause illness, disability and death in other people. Living as we do in society, none of us has the ability to stay entirely isolated so that our decisions only affect ourselves. As members of a society we all have a responsibility to each other. That seems to be the bit which is forgotten in all this. Even if we think the government has made the wrong decisions through this, we all have. A chance to do our bit by acting as though we have the virus, and avoid passing it on to family, friends and strangers. I couldn’t live with myself if I made an unnecessary trip which resulted in someone else becoming seriously ill.

@Butterymuffin but the video only showed one person at the top of an aisle and you could see two further people in the vestibule section? It was hardly rammed? I just don’t see it?
Butterymuffin · 19/12/2020 22:47

You'll be expecting others in the form of medical professionals to be responsible for you if you need treatment, I would guess. Do you drive? You're expected to be responsible for all the strangers on the road at the same time as you, by not killing them to get to your destination faster...

@shamalidacdak but 99.4% of people completely recover and most have no symptoms what so ever so this is probably a bit over dramatic don’t you think?
Butterymuffin · 19/12/2020 22:51

@texascactus her tweets have said it's rammed though and that people are sitting next to each other. The video on the train isn't that helpful either way. Station looked packed.

frumpety · 19/12/2020 22:52

A lovely Asda that one, first year down in Cornwall, staying in a place near Constantine , when we met a bus and a car pulling a trailer with a decent sized yacht on it on the roads you will be familiar with, but we weren't at the time got my advanced hedging it badge now and we went there to decompress and recoup Wink

@Butterymuffin the station photos show no more than about 8 people? The train video shows barely anyone and we’re going off what someone on Twitter says?

You need to be more aware of media manipulated camera angles!!!!!!

Charley50 · 19/12/2020 22:55

Are we ever going to learn to manage the risk? Within the last century there were many contagious, deadly diseases. Antibiotics and vaccines meant they were eliminated, until now.

Do all of our lives have to change so drastically, or should we learn to manage the risk? What is right for the country as a whole?

Tiletiletile1 · 19/12/2020 22:58

I'm sick of these threads blaming ordinary people for the effects of the chaotic and negligent actions of our Government. What the fuck did they expect to happen, locking down London with less than 24 hours notice ffs!

THIS THIS THIS.

User158340 · 19/12/2020 23:01

It's impossible to socially distance on these trains if all the seats are taken though regardless. The seats are all tightly packed.

I know the roads. They can be a little narrow in places.
