Idiots piling onto packed trains out of London

By doing this they're putting whatever family or friends they're staying with at huge risk, not to mention the wider communities.

Also, the mindset of "it's within the rules because it's not midnight yet". It's not within the rules to breach social distancing. For goodness sake the trains are still running tomorrow so if you're going to break or bend the rules do it then when you won't be stood on a carriage with scores of other people.

To be honest I live in London amd my Christmas plans since the summer have remained that I will stay home alone and not visit my family. It was obvious to me that would be sensible. I feel incredibly sad for people who made plans based on what the government told them was going to be possible and have now had to cancel after looking forward to it.
I feel more sad though that due to so many people thinking the rules don’t apply to them, they won’t be told what to do, they can break the rules because their step aunts neighbours son knows someone who said it’s ok... because of all those people who will now spread this new strain by travelling to see relatives, I see no other alternative but a national tier 4 lockdown from 1st jan with no end date. It’s so unfair that so many people will be alone this Christmas and then alone for months to come due to the selfish acts of so many who want to enjoy Christmas. This makes me more sad than anything this year and ironic when we think about what Christmas is all about

Cocky selfish Londoners putting themselves first

If they are dashing home for Christmas, sounds to me like they are not from London.

Some don’t want to be alone at Christmas

Many of us don't want to be alone at Christmas but are now facing a solitary celebration. Its seeing the bigger picture.

You been on public transport lately?
I get a bus every day to work.
It's been rammed for the past 2 months.
Zero social distancing.

Ok then ‘London workers kill the northerners’

Where ever people originate , the issue is the that people are moving from the capital to the rest of the country and this will have serious consequences for people outside of the capital

Or even 'Northerners kill northerners.'

@Porridgeoat

It should have been an immediate lockdown.

An immediate lockdown would be ridiculous. Am I supposed to stay in my office indefinitely as I was there when it was announced? You cannot prevent people returning home.
FreezeFloodlit · 21/12/2020 12:05

It was utterly predictable. If your plan fails to take into account human behaviour, your plan is critically flawed from the outset. It's such a waste of time and emotion to stamp your feet and get cross about it and play the blame game.

The way human beings actually behave needs to be factored in instead of planning based on an absolute fantasy. It's like STDs would be eliminated if only we could stop all pre-marital sex and adultery. This is true, but it's also irrelevant because this is simply not going to happen.

Most of my colleagues don’t live in London, they commute via train.

What you are asking for means they are stranded, it also prevents healthcare workers from getting to/from work.
