‘It may be necessary to greatly accelerate vaccine roll-out to have an appreciable impact in suppressing the resulting disease burden.’

I feel I’m reading an understatement here. Yes it may well be! Come in Ox / Az

Noellodee · 24/12/2020 09:11

Sorry, brain not yet woken up! More coffee needed.

ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 09:17

@FeelingBIue

Have the heat maps disappeared? I can't seem to find them today.
Age heat maps are back for cases -and a new one for deaths too for England regions
TheDinosaurTrain · 24/12/2020 09:20

The death rate is twice as high in the North vs the South East. Thoroughly depressing

MRex · 24/12/2020 09:30

Unfortunately higher deaths always follow higher cases, but there is an appreciable lag time as the virus works its way through to older populations.

ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 09:36

The death rate closely follows the cases rate for over 60s.

If you look at the attached two charts for the case rate for over 60’s
First one is the North West, where the over 60’s rate follows the overall rate closely, and was over 300/100,000 for a long time in October/November.
Second one is for the South East and the increase is much steeper in the below 60s (so far - let’s hope it stays that way).
So the difference in death rates makes sense

New link for tracking vaccinations

TheSunIsStillShining · 24/12/2020 11:25

@TheDinosaurTrain

They could not have come up with an even less helpful format.
FeelingBIue · 24/12/2020 11:38

@TheDinosaurTrain

Thanks for the link Dinosaur.

Sunshine - I found it informative. What do you want - a breakdown by astrological star sign of every person vaccinated? A breakdown by local area so MNetters can nit-pick about who got what and the unfairness of it because their 89 year old mother hasn't been invited yet even though they're CEV and their paramedic mate says they're throwing it away in London?

Wakeupin2022 · 24/12/2020 11:40

521k England only.

That's a really good start.

Nearly 1% of the population have had a vaccine that works really well after 1 dose

sirfredfredgeorge · 24/12/2020 12:02

Do we know percentage of over 60's / 70's etc, as ceeveebee said above the death rate is correlated with that, and it would be useful to see the implied rate of really susceptible people.

Piggyinblankets · 24/12/2020 12:11

To be fair, a regional breakdown might help people to realise that some tier 4 areas are nowhere near at rolling out vaccine stage. latest estimate 11 Jan in my borough for first vaccinations. Not sure why but we do always seem behind the curve.

ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 12:14

It says that 70% of the vaccines were given to those over 80 years old - which is great!

TheSunIsStillShining · 24/12/2020 12:49

@FeelingBIue
I would have liked to see an infographic where without having to read sentences I could see:

  • number of vaccines in the country
  • number of vaccinations given - potentially by nations and potentially %of vaccines used up
  • age/occupation would be nice.

I#d also like to see the plans: when is the next shipment for example, but that is taking it too far I know.

Presenting information in an easily digestible format that journos cannot interpret as they like is key. But so far all gov comms were shitty. This one is no different.

I'm happy to have at least this info, but let's not pretend that it's wow. The bar is so low, that if we are drip fed anything we are actually happy. :(

Look on the bright side: you have a date. I couldn't find one for ours.
Wakeupin2022 · 24/12/2020 13:07

TheSun do you have examples of any other countries and how they present their info?

I've got to admit i really have only been looking at the UK so don't know how others do it.

I think with this one, they will probably approve it over time.

This is a last minute thing and probably it was a case of just get the basic info promised out there.

I am not necessarily sure we need all the info you require though.

Knowing that people are being vaccinated on schedule is all the info I really want.

Quarantino · 24/12/2020 13:07

Lots of over-80s are getting their first vaccine dose this week, in my area. About 80% of the 80+ population I think. But it won't be given to other age groups until all the 80+ are done, as I understand it.

I don't think that age group are contributing much to the existing spread though, so I can't see any change in case rates due to that for some time...

Wakeupin2022 · 24/12/2020 13:07

improve

TheSunIsStillShining · 24/12/2020 13:16

@Wakeupin2022
Remind me in a few days and I'll dig out other examples. I've seen really good ones over the past few months. I remember some EU countries and some asian ones being clear, concise and informative. But no links. And today is christmas (I'm from mainland europe) so I'm off finish off early dinner and wrap presents :)

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Xmas Smile

Delatron · 24/12/2020 13:16

Our town council just announced they would start vaccinating the over 80s first week in Jan. Don’t know why we are later than other areas.

Wakeupin2022 · 24/12/2020 13:19

TheSun and everyone else - Merry Christmas! Xmas Smile

ceeveebee · 24/12/2020 13:39

@TheSunIsStillShining you might get at least some of your wish later today
I follow the Twitter accounts for the software engineer who owns the dashboard (twitter.com/Pouriaaa) and the head of phe stats ( twitter.com/statsgeekclare) and the say the vaccine data will be on the dashboard as from today

BigWoollyJumpers · 24/12/2020 15:20

TheSunIsStillShining - Do you live in mainland Europe, or are you just visiting?

I’d love to see this too Sun. it would be great to follow other countries vaccination programs. What country are you from / based in?
Ireland starts 27th Dec I think.
