Just wanted to say merry Christmas to everyone. I hope you all have a happy, healthy and peaceful day. And thank you for all the support this year. I am taking two days off so there will be no updates to the table on the homepage of COVID messenger until Dec 27th. All the best and stay safe this Christmas. H x

Qwaffee · 24/12/2020 16:56

Thank you littleowl1 - I have followed your service from the start, it’s very helpful.
Merry Christmas everyone, may it be relaxing and healthy

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 17:10

Hopefully not something necessary for anyone on here to know, but presumably test centres are still open tomorrow?

christinarossetti19 · 24/12/2020 17:24

Thanks littleowl1 and to you.

Thanks for all your work this year.

Witchend · 24/12/2020 17:27

Yes, Thank you, @littleowl1 really appreciate all the work.

And Merry Christmas to all!

QueenStromba · 24/12/2020 17:30

39,036 cases, 574 deaths.

QueenStromba · 24/12/2020 17:35

That number will be short around 20 deaths and 600 cases due to Northern Ireland not reporting today.

wintertravel1980 · 24/12/2020 17:51

Looks like Swale and Thanet, the two local authorities at the centre of Kent outbreak, may be plateauing or even going down. The numbers are still high but the exponential growth might have stopped.

London healthcare numbers look grim - 505 admissions reported on Dec 21.

Cookerhood · 24/12/2020 17:51

@DecemberStar

Hopefully not something necessary for anyone on here to know, but presumably test centres are still open tomorrow?
Yes, I know someone who is working at one tomorrow
NeurotreeWenceslas · 24/12/2020 19:24

Higher onward transmission in primary?

ifonly4 · 24/12/2020 19:29

DecemberStar yes, open in our area. Luckily one within ten miles as DH having to isolate.

DecemberStar · 24/12/2020 19:33

Sorry to anyone having to avail themselves of T@T over Christmas!

Itisasecret · 24/12/2020 19:39

Not looking good for primary schools either.

NeurotreeWenceslas · 24/12/2020 20:11

That's what I thought

Keepdistance · 24/12/2020 20:18

The numbers dont suggest much more transmissible on surveillance for schools. Looks more like gradual increase from sept with drop from lockdown but back up again now.

oneglassandpuzzled · 24/12/2020 20:35

@Witchend

Yes, Thank you, *@littleowl1* really appreciate all the work.

And Merry Christmas to all!

Yes, thank you LittleOwl. Yours is the first email my husband reads in the morning and he usually brings me a cup of coffee in bed and tells me in detail how cases are doing in all family areas.🙂
Jenasaurus · 24/12/2020 20:43

My DS has just been offered the vaccine, we both work for the same NHS trust, he is 27 and asthmatic and I am 56 and high BMI so I am guessing he being male and asthmatic is higher risk, both of us work in non patient facing roles.

Chaotic45 · 24/12/2020 20:49

@Jenasaurus that's great news. I have the impression from friends who work in the NHS that sept are given an amount of tests and asked to allocate.

So I don't think anyone will have compared you to your son as such- it's just that he's in the top X% of vulnerable people in his department.

Hope that makes sense!

Jenasaurus · 24/12/2020 20:51

I see, that makes sense, I do worry though as he has had an anaphalatic shock episode, when he had nuts and other allergys, lactose intolernant etc

MRex · 24/12/2020 21:23

@Keepdistance - look at slide 35; the secondary rises in London, SE and East are being hidden by drops elsewhere. 10% of all primary school outbreaks being in the past week is pretty startling too, no? Even moreso when you realise many schools weren't open for some or all of that week.

MRex · 24/12/2020 21:25

@Jenasaurus - I thought the advice with allergies was not to take Pfizer (maybe wait for Oxford)? He should discuss it with the people administering the vaccine.

MRex · 24/12/2020 21:35

Anyway, happy Christmas everyone x
I shall aim not to think about covid all day tomorrow so shouldn't be posting!!

Witchend · 24/12/2020 22:15

@MRex

That slide (35) is very interesting. Look how years 11-13 have dropped off, and compared to primary increasing.

If it was just years 12/13 decreased, some of the 6th form colleges shut a week early round here, which could effect that.
It's possible schools have kept year 11-13 in at times when they sent others home until they really couldn't any more.

However it does look like this is at least transmittable more at primary age from the figures here.

Firefliess · 24/12/2020 22:41

@witchend - Years 12-13 were probably most affected by the wider lockdown restrictions (pubs, coffee shops, etc closed) than younger children, who don't tend to have so much social contact outside school.
