I actually feel quite tearful! It's apparently 100% effective at preventing the most serious form of the illness, 21 days after the first dose..... that's going to have a massive impact!!
I've been trying to explain why I'm so happy to my 8 year old ds, he's not the best audience. "Oh that's nice mummy!" Grin

OrangeBananaFish · 30/12/2020 09:36

Finally!!!! Feels like it's taken forever. I'm not daring other threads, already having a bad day, don't need any more right now.

We're getting there. Slowly, but its coming. Roll on spring

MarshaBradyo · 30/12/2020 09:56

@FourTeaFallOut

Yes, I give in. Some people are so balls deep in their persecution complex that they wouldn't know good news if it jabbed them in their arm.
Totally I just deleted a post in reply as realised I don’t care what they’re thinking. Shame we all have to read it but hey ho.
TeaInTheGarden · 30/12/2020 09:56

I’ve never looked forward to spring so much in my life!

Yep, now its just another thing for people to whinge about. The hypocrisy in some cases is quite breathtaking.

Amazing news! Thank you to all on this thread for providing hope amongst the spiralling despair on Mumsnet.

Yep, same with my 9 year old @ChristmasinJune. "That sounds good, mum....anyway, what's for lunch?"

TheChineseChicken · 30/12/2020 10:09

The doom mongers bother me because they risk negatively influencing others who then might not have the vaccine. The more people who are vaccinated, the quicker we’ll be free from this shit show

albicocca · 30/12/2020 10:09

Bloody brilliant news!! The light at the end of the tunnel is shining brightly now.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2020 10:20

What made me laugh ( in an ironic way) is the MN yell if "we're ruining our lives for a few old, sick people who are going to die soon anyway" swiftly followed by "it's not fair; all the old, sick people get a vaccine first".
Many cared little for covid spread until the new variant started infecting younger people. And they say older people are selfish!!

But hey, today I am not going to get riled. Today is a GOOD day!

I read somewhere, yesterday, that only 8% of UK people were saying no to the vaccine. That's good. A 92% take up rate would be brilliant.

What a relief to end the year with this news of the Oxford being rolled out as well as Pfizer. So happy. Been waiting on edge for two weeks for this 🤪😁😁😁

Yes, these people who say nobody they know wants it... they might just have a very atypical social group but I think it’s more likely they are lying.

You know I posted about the local gp that got 100% take up? There have been several times when I have mentioned it and other posters have said same thing near them Smile

chri55ie · 30/12/2020 10:44

MHRA press conference taking place w if you are interested

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 30/12/2020 10:52

I'm so thrilled. I don't care if it's 62%, that's a really high number for a vaccine that's so new on the scene. It will make such a difference.

I've had such a hard year (I mean, haven't we all? Hmm) but there have been a couple of brutally hard things which have been devastating to manage and I will feel so much better for the pandemic properly easing. I feel there is a light at the end of the tunnel now. It will feel absolutely brilliant to have spring arrive and have an entire summer ahead of us to enjoy some easier times. We will all be skipping around. And we don't even have to fall slap bang into a No Deal Brexit.

Plus, excuse me, Trump is about to formally be shoved off his perch. Life is really spoiling us.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/12/2020 10:52

Did he just say up to 80% with a 3 month interval?

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 10:54

Yes, 80% with a 12 week spacing with the second dose.

ChristmasinJune · 30/12/2020 11:19

Are the anti-vax crew the same people who have been confidently telling us that there'll never been a vaccine?

Or have those people sloped off quietly to wipe the egg off their faces!

-and yes I am gloating, I feel I can today Grin

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 11:29

Do we know when the gov dashboard will update with the vaccine figures?

Thanks for this

The Drs / scientists were great

It's there under healthcare but not sure how up to date it is?
FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 11:37

If you click on the figure it says it's inclusive of 20th December. So, hopefully a good number to add.

Pomegranatespompom · 30/12/2020 11:38

Vaccinations don’t fit with some people agendas. The disruption has quite suited a vocal minority.

Looking forward to the end of the ‘schools must close’ posts.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2020 11:47

80%? 80%!!!
Does happy dance. And then happy dance again!
Woo hoooooooooooo!

Spiratedaway · 30/12/2020 11:52

You should see the Oxford vaccine approved thread all scientists on there jeez

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2020 11:57

I'm not sure why people are so worried about pregnant woman getting the vaccine unless they have extra risks. They could wait a few months ( likely to be in latter vaccine groups anyway, as won't be older) have the baby and then have a vaccination. Am I missing something?
