Gloomspreading Muppets is a recognisable subgroup of posters!

And I'm a natural born sceptic tbh. But even I'm impressed and chuffed at the international vaccine response to this.

Defenbaker · 30/12/2020 20:41

@Layladylay234 That's interesting info about the training they've given you. Would you mind sharing - do you have a background as a HCP/carer?

I applied for an admin job working for the NHS, to support the vaccination programme, but heard nothing back. Perhaps my age (59) went against me? Perhaps they felt I was too old to be in a busy environment, with a potentially large viral load in the air? I did have concerns about that side of things, as I am at an age where I might be affected quite badly by the virus.

I saw the vaccinator jobs advertised, and wished I was brave enough to handle that job. I'm OK with needles, but do have to look away when the needle goes in (otherwise I flinch), so I doubt I'd be any use as a vaccinator. Please come back and let me know how you get on - you're doing a great thing.

I'm a dentist. I've had my first Pfizer vaccine, and due the second dose next week ( at least, I think? Unless they delay it).
I've done an online course, quite heavy going, on administering vaccines. It's goes into a lot of detail re storage and transport, immunology. Disease transmission etc etc..
We've had some f2f trainjng, and a recent basic life support/medical emergencies refresher and thats us, ready to go. Occupational health forms sent off.
The idea being is that once we have had our second vaccine, we are available to help out on a grand scale. Currently awaiting a call to action! Bring it on.
Logistically we are still working in bubbles, so in theory we have time to concentrate on other tasks just now

It's the best thing to hide a "problematic" thread!

Excellent @vanished

I’m staying on this thread today. After the stress of the school’s announcement earlier (“most”’primary schools, and then leaving us hanging and searching for documents to find out about our own areas), I daren’t venture over to any other boards, I’m mentally exhausted!!

I agree! The constant refreshing and searching trying to figure out whether my son would be in school or not!

Thank you for all your positive posts - my calm in the storm. Flowers

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 31/12/2020 00:05

I was just reading that 2 million Americans have now had the vaccine. I mean, it wasn't a very cheery news article other than that, but it was nice to read that number. That's a nice solid number - it's a good start, anyway.

TeaInTheGarden · 31/12/2020 00:11

Coronavirus good news on Twitter shared a tweet about plans to vaccinate 4.5-5.5 million people per week..?! Is this realistic do we think? Imagine if they do that- it would be incredible!
What do we think positive people?
(Fed up of people telling me how long it’s going to take in a negative way!)

chri55ie · 31/12/2020 00:16

I also shared that a few days ago on this thread. The Info was from an article in the HSJ. Is that a recent tweet from Coronavirus good news? Can’t see it on my time line

chri55ie · 31/12/2020 00:18

This is the relevant bit from the article.....

The plan also relies on supplies, including more than 7 million doses being available in December. It is not clear what impact a delay to this would have on the rollout. With most doses due to be administered between early January and mid March — at a rate of 4-5 million every week — a small delay may not make a huge impact to the overall schedule.

TeaInTheGarden · 31/12/2020 00:25

@chri55ie thanks for that, I really hope we can achieve this!

Realised it was them replying to an old tweet to ask if it’s still the case. It must be the same one you’ve already seen.

Thought this was worth sharing again for anyone who’s not seen it. This was from when we only had Pfizer approved, I’m excited about how quickly we can achieve these numbers now!

So do I! It’s in the plans so let’s hope so. The government have been vague over how quickly this can happen. Let’s hope for clarity soon!

TeaInTheGarden · 31/12/2020 09:33

I really hope they’ve been vague so they can surprise us all and just get it done in no time....

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 31/12/2020 09:37

Thanks for sharing that graph Tea, I have been hoping to see something like that. It’s very cheering.

I think they don’t want to say until it’s happening. They won’t get to that many vaccinations from day 1 it will take time to build up. Let’s see!
FuzzyPuffling · 31/12/2020 10:00

Super graph.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, ye doom- monger Muppets.

@FuzzyPuffling 😂😂 it’s so much nicer to be positive isn’t it?!
I’ll never understand people loving dooooom so much!

InterfectoremVulpes · 31/12/2020 10:17

We're going to need to new thread soon. Which is good news in itself!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 31/12/2020 10:25

The lovely thing now is that we need never be short of good news because we can always pop to the global vaccine tracker and ooh and ahh at the numbers in different countries.
Israel is nearly up to 10 doses per 100! Yay Israel! And so good to see more and more countries appearing compared with the handful a week ago.

TheChineseChicken · 31/12/2020 10:28

Thanks Countess I was trying to remember where the vaccine ticker was

chri55ie · 31/12/2020 10:32

I’m off to read how Israel have done this they seem to be leading the way in vaccination per capita. Gosh all of this is so far away from my day job but I have become so interested in the science behind the virus.

Anyone watched the Panorama program about the Oxford Vaccine development? V interesting and great to see so many female scientists involved.

Sunshinegirl82 · 31/12/2020 12:27

@chri55ie

The U.K. have actually administered more doses of vaccine than Israel, it's just that Israel has a much smaller population to get through is all. I'm keeping everything crossed that our vaccination programme is going to be a bit like our olympics, a surprisingly problem free success!

chri55ie · 31/12/2020 12:52

That’s exactly the analogy we used! The Olympics!

FuzzyPuffling · 31/12/2020 13:04

Same here about the Olympics. Beforehand everyone said it was going to be a shambles. But it certainly wasn't, was it?

Shall I start a new thread?
