New thread as I got worried the old one was going to run out of space!

Layladylay I'm glad you're sailing through the course but your post does come across a bit blase. If anyone who is hesitant about the vaccine reads that post, it might not fill them with confidence.... Please would you consider having it taken down?

blametheparents · 30/12/2020 14:04

@Layladylay234 - In no way did your post come across as blasé and there is no need at all to take it down!!

It’s a job as a vaccinator - not a fellowship at Oxford working on new vaccines!
Plenty of people inject themselves every day. It’s truly not a rocket science kind of job!
And I’m 100% certain that a qualified doctor will be overseeing all of the work.
It’s exciting news - well done on getting through your training.
I’d be happy to let you vaccinate me once you’ve finished the training!

goldpendant · 30/12/2020 14:13

@Layladylay234 yes a lot of it is basic, but I'm staying on the cautious side and at least scanning all the content - even if it feels obvious! I'm 7 down hoping to rattle through the rest today/tonight!

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/12/2020 14:18

Layladylay234 - I didn’t take it as blasé either, it sounded like you were already experienced in many of the areas involved and exactly the sort of person I would be happy to have vaccinating me and my parents.
The fact that we have a pool of people with healthcare experience in different fields to draw on is reassuring imo.

Defenbaker · 30/12/2020 14:23

Great news, well done Oxford and AZ - this is our get out of jail card! Smile

It looks like some sort of lockdown/delayed school start will be necessary due to high numbers currently, but hopefully people will be better able to endure this knowing that the vaccination progress is so good. I'm convinced that by Easter things will be much brighter.

tobee · 30/12/2020 14:27

I'm looking forward to seeing images of all the football stadiums etc etc with the mass vaccinations going on!

Just been watching some old cricket on tv (don't judge Grin) summer 2009. It made me so happy and optimistic about a lovely summer 2021. Imagine - freedom!

(Mind you, how lucky we were to have had such a good spring and summer 2020 with opportunities to be outside in lockdown)

GoldenOmber · 30/12/2020 14:29

@TheChineseChicken

Just seen on another thread - “80% efficacy isn’t enough for herd immunity”. WTF are you on about??
Possibly that person has misunderstood what herd immunity is? Or what the 80% means?

Or possibly the “there’ll never be a vaccine, sadly” people who became the “the vaccine won’t be more than 50% effective, I’m afraid” people are now resorting to “sadly, having a range of highly effective vaccines licensed for use and being injected as we speak isn’t going to get us out of this.” (Yes it is, you gloomspreading muppets.)

I laughed out load at this @GoldenOmber

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 14:34

@Layladylay234 Did you have to commit to a minimum number of hours per week?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/12/2020 14:35

Grin

Don’t forget ‘the Oxford vaccine isn’t as good as Pfizer’ and ‘they’re rolling it out too slowly.’

MorrisZapp · 30/12/2020 14:41

Yip it's the cascade of doom! They so want to be right don't they. They probably want a petition to close luggage shops as nobody will have reason to pack a suitcase until 2065

GoldenOmber · 30/12/2020 14:57

Grin I was just thinking the other day that I hadn’t heard any “it won’t be a silver bullet, sadly” talk for a while, then about ten minutes later read someone’s post saying “it won’t be a golden bullet but...” OH COME ON.

Yes, I’ve also seen “Why aren’t they starting vaccinations until Monday?”

Only another 44 years? Sadly, it'll be longer than that I'm afraid. Wink
Layladylay234 · 30/12/2020 16:06

Thanks @blametheparents and @TheCountessofFitzdotterel. I won't be requesting it to be taken down as I doubt very much anyone scrolling through this thread of nearly 30 pages and sees my message will be put off having the vaccine! Bit of overkill.

Just for clarification, when I say a lot is common sense, one of the questions was along the lines of
If a nurse turns up at a patients house and the patient is drunk,is it ok for the nurse to strike the patient?
And
What are the 3 main symptoms of Covid 19?

Don't get me wrong, for the modules like immunization about how to store and give vaccines,I'm making notes on so I don't miss anything. But we have to cover safeguarding, infection control etc at least once a year,so I think I pretty well versed in them!

@FourTeaFallOut
I think at the second stage of the application you have to put how many hours you'd be happy to do and there were different options like 8 or less,8-16,more than 16. They also ask about work schedule and whether you'd want regular hours/ad-hoc etc.

Layladylay234 · 30/12/2020 16:08

Sorry,a thread of nearly 40 pages!

The Bonkers Set are out in force tonight. Help!

I’m trying to stay away from the negativity - but not doing very well!

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2020 19:48

It's not just negativity...there's a fair amount of lunacy too! (And eugenics for good measure)

FourTeaFallOut · 30/12/2020 20:02

Oh, I definitely need to stop posting on the other threads. The frustration is making me sound like a crazy lady. I just need to put my blinkers on now and wait for the finish line. I'll make it a New Year resolution.

Blerg · 30/12/2020 20:05

I’ve had a similar thought @FourTeaFallOut I have been wondering how to disengage somewhat because it’s doing my head in and there isn’t much I can do to make a difference.

Sorry that’s not very positive for this thread but I think I need a bit more balance. I tend to obsess.

TheChineseChicken · 30/12/2020 20:18

I feel exactly the same. It’s like trying to stamp out a series of tiny fires! I’m distracting myself with TV and a nice drink Wine

Aprilrainbow · 30/12/2020 20:25

Soon all the doom mongers will be sloping back to the climate change threads.

FuzzyPuffling · 30/12/2020 20:27

I'm with you all on the "avoid avoid" NY resolution. I know it does me no good at all.

I'm staying here. If you see me on another covid thread feel free to report me for "personal rule breaking"
