To be annoyed that school requests parents wear a mask.

School have requested parents a mask on drop offs and pick ups. I’m not anti mask and I will wear one but I’m annoyed.

It’s a rural school. With less than 100 children. Majority of children aged year 4 and up walk to school on their own or at very least walk into the school grounds on their own. I barely see anyone dropping Ds (10) off. Maybe 1 other parent from a distance. Don’t come into close contact with teachers as it’s all done outside anyway.

They also have staggered times. So people going in and out different times and one way system.

With Dd who’s younger I see the parents of the children in her bubble but we all social distance.

School are saying it’s because parents often talk but what do they do expect us to not talk to each other? What’s the issue with people talking whilst social distancing?! I’d understand if parents were standing in groups but it’s not like that here. Most parents are rushing off to work and too busy to talk. Others drop their kids and walk off quick like me 🤣

But being made to wear masks in a huge outdoor open space with plenty of room to distance? Really necessary? Lots of open space around the school! I just don’t really understand!

I don’t come into close contact with anyone during the school run!

It's for a few minutes a couple of times a day, there are bugger things to get upset about.

Just do it. Why bother getting annoyed over absolutely pointless stuff.

I think because it’s outdoors it’s silly.

You say you have no problem wearing a mask then in the same paragraph complain... the school is only asking you to wear a mask.. nothing major! Everybody has rules they need to stick to in the world and it's a great example to your child if you follow them .. even when you don't like it. It's called life! 🙄

Sounds like they are doing all they can to keep everyone as safe as possible.

You might not agree with them, but please, just wear a mask. That won't kill you.

The directive comes from the Government, so please just do it.

We are doing everything we can in school to keep it safe. Please help us.

Keep mask in pocket, put on when near school, wear until you've walked away. If you aren't seeing anyone then you'll only be wearing it 5 minutes each day, it's not difficult.

Schools received new guidance from the government on Wednesday saying this has to happen. They don't make the rules; they're told what they have to do. That's why loads of people have been on here moaning about it.
Just wear it. They're already having a hard enough time.

In the same post you say you “barely come into contact with anyone” but then go on to say you chat to other parents. Which is it?

Either way, whether you see one person or a hundred, you need to wear the mask.

I’m aware it’s not difficult but when I barely see anyone and keep myself to myself. Seems pointless! Seems they are making everyone wear one because a few parents are stood around talking but most of us are not. Technically I’m exempt from wearing one but do so for short times in shops etc (don’t go anywhere else that I have to wear one). But I have to whip it off as soon as I’m out the shop! 😭

Do you want your child's school to remain open during this lockdown and subsequent ones, if they happen?

I am assuming you are not medically exempt from wearing a mask either, as you say you wear one.

If yes, then why not just allow the request school has made? Why make things more difficult or more hassle than it needs to be?

We have asked parents to wear masks since the second week of September. Certain times and points at pick up and drop off get crowded and it isn't always possible to be 2m away from everyone else.

We have vulnerable staff, children and parents and we aim to stay open as much as we can. Therefore we have made this simple request.

Fortunately compliancy has been high at our school. I think most parents just want school to be able to stay open and understand that we are just trying to do what we can to avoid transmission, stop spread and prevent school closing any more than it already has had to.

I chat from a distance when we are stood on the lines @emilyfrost. What are we are expected to do? Put our heads down and not talk to anyone 🤣 I only see one other parent junior side.

The school I’m at has been asking ALL parents to do this since they reopened in September
Doesn’t stop them congregating in groups tho and chatting after drop offs despite repeatedly being told to leave the playground

Plus there’s no cases in our area. Not been a single case in the school or any others locally!

You are expected to wear a mask, as you have been told.

The number of cases is irrelevant.

Tbf they will only be following their LA/government guidance.

As a pp says, the directive is from the government, not the school. Staff will be subject to certain regulations for the time being as well. I live in a similar area, OP: small rural schools; little transmission. Why not try to keep it that way?
