Covid

To be annoyed that school requests parents wear a mask.

School have requested parents a mask on drop offs and pick ups. I’m not anti mask and I will wear one but I’m annoyed.

It’s a rural school. With less than 100 children. Majority of children aged year 4 and up walk to school on their own or at very least walk into the school grounds on their own. I barely see anyone dropping Ds (10) off. Maybe 1 other parent from a distance. Don’t come into close contact with teachers as it’s all done outside anyway.

They also have staggered times. So people going in and out different times and one way system.

With Dd who’s younger I see the parents of the children in her bubble but we all social distance.

Barely come into contact with anyone.

School are saying it’s because parents often talk but what do they do expect us to not talk to each other? What’s the issue with people talking whilst social distancing?! I’d understand if parents were standing in groups but it’s not like that here. Most parents are rushing off to work and too busy to talk. Others drop their kids and walk off quick like me 🤣

But being made to wear masks in a huge outdoor open space with plenty of room to distance? Really necessary? Lots of open space around the school! I just don’t really understand!

I don’t come into close contact with anyone during the school run!

Why notch do what you can to help keep schools open OP? It’s standard procedure in all state schools, along with ventilation. And that’s a good thing because they need to do everything they can to keep schools open

No yanbu but you will be told on Mumsnet you are because this is Bonkers Central when it comes to covid.

No, she"ki be told she's unreasonable because that's what those people think. Stop trying to belittle their opinion, it just looks daft.

They are not expecting parents put their heads down and not talk, hence asking them to wear masks. I don't get your point OP.

The OPs point is around parents wearing masks. Who is saying the teachers don’t have the right to wear whatever they feel will offer them protection in their workplace?

just do it FFS.

I live in NYC where we've been wearing masks since mid March. Wear the mask. It's for two minutes and studies show that, even outside, there can be transfer of the virus and two people wearing a mask lessens that risk. Plus its about everyone doing all they can, all the time. If people start debating whether they should or shouldn't wear a mask when with others, it'll quickly turn to people not wearing them outside, then not social distancing as well and you will get rising case numbers.

I'm pleased they are doing this. Sets a good example to children.

Ah, good old common sense! Which has definitely stopped the virus spreading so far!

@ShowingOut

I don't mind the mask. I do mind that I need to collect my daughter 15 minutes earlier than normal so they can "stagger" pick up. This amounts to a missed day of learning every half term, and there is no after school care this year, you can't share with other parents, and it just gets a bit harder every day.

You could always do the fifteen minutes a day at home if you are that worried about it Hmm education of your child isn’t solely the responsibility of teachers.

YABVU. My DC’s school implemented a mask rule a couple of weeks ago and there’s still some parents who refuse to wear one now. I’ve seen some wear one to walk past the head master then they pull it down around the corner.. Saw one yesterday pull it down so he could chat on the phone. Just totally baffles me, it’s a few minutes of your life- get on with it! And it is completely because parents still stand chatting, often definitely not 2M apart. I’ve seen big gaggles still gossiping together like nothing ever changed. Idiots.

Op YABU. Are you being an idiot about this as a joke? Bet it's a reverse.

You're not being consistent. Either you're not actually waiting around the school in which case drop your kids far enough away with all the other DC making their own way so you don't need a mask or you are in which case follow the rules and make everyone's life simpler.

Yanbu, it is pointless. Hopefully someone with common sense will start making the rules soon.

I'm relieved our school have finally encouraged it! If it helps at all, it's well worth it. Plus my masks are rather stylish if I do say so myself Wink

Yes YABU.

What part of 'covid is highly contagious' do you not understand?

i do wonder whether if the school told you you had to walk backwards into the gates and spin 3 times because it warned covid off whether all these posters would be saying just do the fucking spins and don't be selfish.

I reckon they would, tbh.

Teachers feel very unsafe are the moment. If wearing masks makes the staff feel safer, do it because they ask even if you think is silly.

i don't think that's true - we haven't been asked to wear masks.

You asked a question, most people think you should wear a mask. But you keep trying to make your point. You seem like someone who won’t change their mind. Why don’t you just set a good example and put the mask on, help the teachers and the school do their job. It’s really quite easy.

If there are few local cases wear the mask and keep it that way. Don’t prolong this flipping lockdown by taking unnecessary risks. YABVU.

Yep.

I say again, be interesting to see how many say ‘just wear the mask, stop being selfish’ to their own kids, who may be asked to wear outside for playtime/lunchtime.
