So many threads on here, and so many people on my SM and in my whatsapp groups, all asking "we can meet one person outside the house, so it i go to meet my friend, can we take our kids?"

Are your kids people? Question answered!

I know it sucks, I'm gutted, and will shortly be spending aaaalllllll my time with my 1yr old and would love to be able to take her out with me to see friends, but surely a little common sense is in order?

You are right on the law but not the “use your common sense”...my common sense tells me that going for a walk with a baby in a pram outside is no real greater covid risk than walking alone...it’s not allowed but no it’s about common sense!!

Especially as we want schools to stay open. Please isolate your children from others outside of school.

I believe in Scotland children under a certain age didn’t count towards the numbers (could be wrong I live in England but sure Ive seen it said)

Children are also people in the respect that we should care about their welfare and the long term consequences that this pandemic will have on them.

Everyone says we should think about the elderly. But we are sacrificing the future of our children without a second thought. Let's give 99 year old Beryl an extra 6 months. Never mind that our kids will be illiterate because they have missed two years of school.

I know. It's so odd that people don't think of their kids as real people!

The Scottish approach way better than English on this, as this rule is really bad news for young kids. Mine we all old enough to see a friend alone but I think parents should be able to take young children to meet a friend.

I think the point is that women are people, and sometimes mothers need to meet up for a conversation which goes further than "farts hurr hurr" in order to remain sane - and therefore continue caring for said children.

They haven’t missed two years of school and if they don’t o any learning at home whilst schools are closed that’s on the parents no one else.

Is it "common sense" to say that a mother nursing a newborn can't leave the house? At all, to meet anyone? Walking distanced from a friend with a baby asleep in a sling on her chest? If that's what the new rules mean, it's insane.

People being incredulous about this and wanting clarification aren't being unreasonable or dumb. Scotland has had a more sensible approach throughout, setting children under twelve aside from adults when counting who can meet up outside.

What about 61yr old Bertha though, does she not deserve the extra 25 years?

Yes we should all use common sense. My common sense says that one person meeting up with another person, each with a baby in a pram, is fine. I will be doing this, for my mental health and that of my friend. It is a completely different scenario to a household group with walking children meeting with another person. Babies in prams should not count and I won’t be counting mine!

Yes!! Can't believe people on her are actually mad that God forbid a mother wants to meet her friend for a walk and stay sane without leaving her child in the house 🤣

Your title needs to have 'in England' added to the end. I don't believe they count for these purposes in Scotland so long as they're under a certain age.

Glaringly obvious these rules were written by men who have no childcare responsibilities and have probably never changed a nappy

Do you realise how many women there are are stuck at home all day with babies and toddlers whilst their partners are at work? It's criminal that a woman should have to be alone all day waiting for dad to come home for an adult conversation or for someone to help. Cutting off women like this is dangerous. It's cruel and should be fucking illegal.

Seems like common sense is kinda lacking on this thread too... I'd assume that by saying "kids" or "children" people would realise i didnt mean babies. Obviously not!

Clarification - i am talking about mobile children.

Also, as clearly stated at yesterday's briefing, the lockdown is to prevent the NHS from becoming overwhelmed. It's not about sacrificing the young to protect the old. It's about making sure that there is still enough capacity on thr NHS to provide essential services. So when your newborn gets bronchiolitis there is a bed and an oxygen mask for her. Or when your 22yr old son finds a funny lump in his testicle, there is quick, efficient care and he doesn't die or end up infertile. Or when your 55yr old dad gets in a car crash, the ambulance gets to him in time and there's a bed for him in the ICU. It's not really about protecting the elderly at all. It's about making sure the NHS doesn't completely drown.

This ^ Being stuck at home with a small person with no adult interaction or conversation is bloody infuriating at times. Although beware of voicing such opinions, on another thread saying stuff like this was met with the response why don't people want to spend time with their children.

Im one of them. Did you see the numbers last night? I'd rather be at home for a month than be worried that if i needed medical attention I'd have to wait for months on end.

But the Government don't distinguish between the 2 . In the UK rules a 9 day old is considered the same as a 9 year old so why wouldn't people assume you also meant babies??
