So many threads on here, and so many people on my SM and in my whatsapp groups, all asking "we can meet one person outside the house, so it i go to meet my friend, can we take our kids?"

Are your kids people? Question answered!

I know it sucks, I'm gutted, and will shortly be spending aaaalllllll my time with my 1yr old and would love to be able to take her out with me to see friends, but surely a little common sense is in order?

OP posts:
frenchand · 01/11/2020 15:44

It's being reported on the Guardian live blog now - confirmed.

So despite the slightly patronising tone of the OP's title people CAN meet with their babies/young kids - which is great IMO and poses practically no additional risk.

Actually people asking this question over and over may even have influenced this policy... so no need to make it sound like they're idiots Hmm

Children are people but don't count for this purpose - great news :)

juliainthedeepwater · 01/11/2020 15:45

@Ohalrightthen Maybe you could edit your title as it's now incorrect?

notanoctopus · 01/11/2020 15:46

Let's face it, mat leave this year - no baby groups, soft play doesn't feel safe, the only reprieve is an odd walk.

Yeah the thread didn't age very well. Grin

That backfired on you didn't it OP

Agree! Grin

Say it with me folk - you can meet up with one friend and your pre-school children!

Or what about

Say it with me folk - mothers are people and don't need to be patronised before situations are clarified! (catchy, eh? Wink)

GrumpySausage · 01/11/2020 15:51

This is brilliant news. I can still get my walks with my mum and DD.

I can do this.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2020 16:07

I'm so glad that pre-schoolers will be discounted from this. Social contact is essential for maternal wellbeing and child development. We're now in the 8th month and this is the demographic with the worst ongoing disruption to their usual social patterns.

8 months and counting is a very large proportion of the lives of very young children, and I fear that as they reach formal education, there will be gulfs emerging in development of children with concerns and delays that have been aggravated by poor social exposure and lack of support denying early intervention. Neurotypical children will probably catch up, but those with unidentified, unsupported needs will suffer more than they have to.

juliainthedeepwater · 01/11/2020 16:07

@frenchand

I like the second option Grin

The direction of this thread has been extremely gratifying!

Thank you so much for this insight - such an important point and one I fear too few people are aware of.

Watermelon999 · 01/11/2020 16:36

I think this change is sensible tbh.

Just waiting now for the parents of home-schooled over 5’s to start arguing that they have a right to meet a friend too and it goes on and on from there...

OverTheRainbow88 · 01/11/2020 17:16

Phew!!!!!! Glad to the change

I can’t find it anywhere though, would someone mind posting a link?

Thanks

notevenat20 · 01/11/2020 17:19

Apparently not OP. Govt has announced that preschool children don't count when you are meeting a friend. This is great news.

whoareyouIwonder · 01/11/2020 19:19

@Watermelon999

Oh, well, guess my common sense is now law Wink

Catlover10 · 01/11/2020 19:26

So glad I can meet other people for a walk with my 5 month old baby! (Tbh I would’ve done so anyway I think or my mental health would have plummeted being alone with a teething baby for a month, so im glad the government seem to have recognised this will have been a worry for lots of mums to young children). So glad the patronising OP is wrong as well Grin

It is a sensible decision for once 😜 by the government!

goodhairforlockdown · 01/11/2020 19:55

@Fatted

Children are also people in the respect that we should care about their welfare and the long term consequences that this pandemic will have on them.

Everyone says we should think about the elderly. But we are sacrificing the future of our children without a second thought. Let's give 99 year old Beryl an extra 6 months. Never mind that our kids will be illiterate because they have missed two years of school.

We aren't closing schools this time
damselindedress · 01/11/2020 20:26

It's fine Op you can take her to meet one friend. Pre school kids don't count in the numbers.

DipSwimSwoosh · 01/11/2020 20:41

Love the twists and turns of the OP. Trying to make other people look stupid isn't big or clever. Little people actually don't count in the crazy world of Covid maths. So there.

ParlezVousWronglais · 01/11/2020 20:49

People are people... isn’t that a Depeche mode song?
Your version doesn’t quite have the same ring to it.

Indeed. Wonder if this is another of those threads where posters go strangely silent, having had their own confidentely stated version of the rules discredited by a government clarification...

This happened all the time in the last lockdown nad has been happening again this time. People insisting you cannot drive to exercise, must leave babies at home, can only be out for an hour, and so on...

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 02/11/2020 12:39

They haven’t missed two years of school and if they don’t do any learning at home whilst schools are closed that’s on the parents no one else

But how can they be full time teachers and full time workers, working at home as there is no childcare? Unless teaching is your job you won’t do it as efficiently as a teacher. I don’t judge the parents that didn’t do home learning as they would be juggling childcare, financial worries, the threat of a pandemic killing their families and their mental health just to name a few!

Thedogshow · 02/11/2020 12:47

Ha ha, the OP seems to have piped down a bit now!

StockTakeAndWatermelons · 02/11/2020 12:53

[grin}

Say it with me, folks... it's ok to state an opinion on the rules, how you interpret them and how you will follow them, it's not ok to spread misinformation as "fact"
