Trump is defeated. Ok so it's not really Covid related, but it's still great news.
( and it might mean Fauci and the other senior health advisers for the American Government won't be worried now about losing their jobs

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 08/11/2020 08:50

Free vitamin D for the vulnerable.

Finally!
It would have been better if they had organized it in the summer to start in September, but still.
Much hilarity in our house at the line about Matt Hancock knowing he had to act ‘fast’.

2020CanDoOne · 08/11/2020 11:00

@macncheeses I agree, it will certainly impact on the death rates of Covid in the US to have a POTOS who believes in science Smile

Prof Robin Shattock talking about the Imperial Vaccine and how whatever vaccines come this year/beginning of next year will be improved upon:-

Note also that Prof Shattock says their technology will be future proof.

This is amazing news! Roll on the end of november.

Jrobhatch29 · 09/11/2020 11:54

@TheKeatingFive

Wow! I'm watching it on BBC news now. Great news
BlueBlancmange · 09/11/2020 11:57

@TheKeatingFive

Oh my god, wow amazing Smile
Jrobhatch29 · 09/11/2020 11:59

Would someone mind telling me what it says about end of November? I cant read the article

tootyfruitypickle · 09/11/2020 12:03

It’s 90pc effective and they hope for emergency approval by end of month

Deliaskis · 09/11/2020 12:03

I just came on here to post about the Pfizer vaccine.

www.statnews.com/2020/11/09/covid-19-vaccine-from-pfizer-and-biontech-is-strongly-effective-early-data-from-large-trial-indicate/

The Guardian one might be an easier read, but thought this might be of interest too.

Sunshinegirl82 · 09/11/2020 12:05

I just copied the link and came straight here! I don't think it could have performed much better!

MarshaBradyo · 09/11/2020 12:05

Oh my gosh great re vaccine

How much of the Pfizer one do we have?

chri55ie · 09/11/2020 12:09

Quite a lot- 30 million doses!

GoldenOmber · 09/11/2020 12:10

The third week of November is for the American FDA I think, which is asking for two months of safety data after a set number of people have had the full two doses. So maybe different with EMA and MHRA which would apply here and haven’t asked for that set 2-month thing, or maybe Pfizer will hold off until end November for all regulators. Either way, that’s soon.

And despite all the “a vaccine won’t be a silver bullet!” gloomy warnings, I reckon a 90% effective vaccine would come pretty close to a silver bullet!

TheKeatingFive · 09/11/2020 12:13

I reckon a 90% effective vaccine would come pretty close to a silver bullet!

True. I don’t think many anticipated the first vaccines out of the blocks to be this effective.

Aposterhasnoname · 09/11/2020 12:14

OMG I’m feeling a bit tearful here . This is the best news. I keep reading the reports looking for the but.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/11/2020 12:18

We have 30 million doses on order, doesn’t mean we already have it.

MarshaBradyo · 09/11/2020 12:18

I was wondering who else had ordered it and found this

The U.S. government placed an initial order of 100 million doses, with the option to purchase 500 million additional doses. The EU ordered 200 million doses with an option for another 100 million. The government of Japan ordered 120 million doses, and Britain ordered 30 million.

WSJ

I could kiss the people who ordered early. Thank the heavens

Boredsilly · 09/11/2020 12:19

I just read this and it's got me in tears, this is such great news for once

Fizbosshoes · 09/11/2020 12:19

Without being negative on a positive thread (I'm soooooo hopeful for the vaccine to at least start effecting change) .Pfizer said they hoped to have 50m doses by the end of either this month or the year. The uk has ordered 30m .. ..but would they get 30m out of a possible 50m , it seems rather a large % for a vaccine the whole world is going to want....?

MarshaBradyo · 09/11/2020 12:19

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

We have 30 million doses on order, doesn’t mean we already have it.
Although xpost I do wonder how it will be delivered, who first etc.
Chickenandrice · 09/11/2020 12:19
