Sounds like Boris wants Manchester in tier 3

He mentioned about hoping MPs would allow Manchester to go into tier 3 but isn't it up to him anyway even if Andy Burnham says no?

Yes, I got the impession he wasn't finished with Andy Burnham yet

CrappleUmble · 12/10/2020 17:00

I wonder if the threatened judicial review is putting him off?

Flaxmeadow · 12/10/2020 17:02

Yes I got that impression too, and same with the other high cases areas

The media and local authorities have been confusing the issue by saying their particular area is in tier 2. I've got local news and council saying this ATM .

But from what the PM said, it seems only Liverpool has been definitely decided on and that the others will be decided in the next 24 hours, before Wednesday

CrappleUmble · 12/10/2020 17:06

There's also the point that the local Conservative politicians in Greater Manchester don't want us on Tier 3 either, so I don't know if that complicates things at all. It's one thing for Johnson to try and stick the boot into Burnham, quite another for eg David Greenhalgh or Graham Brady (he is probably shit scared of the latter tbf).

Gobacktothe90s · 14/10/2020 12:44

Well a meeting today is being decided if Manchester is in tier 3 but when do we find out, will there be a announcement.
It's disgraceful they are playing it out like this

Graham Brady could have Boris out the door if he wanted so I can’t see Manchester entering tier 3 unless he agrees.

Gobacktothe90s · 14/10/2020 12:57

Human Hope you are ok, I don't think we will go into tier 3 as I think Boris will use escalating cases and blame labour for not shutting Manchester down.

Can someone please fill me in with Graham Brady and Boris and why they don't like each other?

Brady is on the freedom campaign!
That said, the measures that have been in place for the last 3 months or more in Manchester don't seem to be working (or no one is following them).

Ecosse · 14/10/2020 13:05

@Gobacktothe90s

Graham Brady doesn’t agree with lockdown.

CrappleUmble · 14/10/2020 16:45

I don't know how they feel about each other personally, but they disagree on pub closures and their roles potentially come into conflict. Johnson obviously is PM. Graham Brady is head of the 1922 Committee, which is the Conservative backbenchers group. They have sent a number of Tory leaders to the knackers yard in their time. He's is very much an MPs rather than a government man, and is angry at the lack of Parliamentary scrutiny of lockdown legislation.

There was no issue earlier in the year when the executive and legislature were getting on well, but that's now changed. Put bluntly, there's a decent chance Brady will be handing Johnson a P60 at some point and they both know it.

Frazzled2207 · 14/10/2020 20:12

agree it's much easier to impose something on Liverpool as they don't and will never have any tory MPs. GM has a smattering which I'm quite grateful for right now as they will vocally fight our corner.

CrappleUmble · 14/10/2020 20:34

Well they might as well be good for something...

ColdBlow · 14/10/2020 21:06

I just had a little cry about this. A bit tragic, I know but I can't face the gym closing and losing the only bit of me time, away from the house.

I disagree with Sir Graham on pretty much everything but he's a good constituency MP and I hope he fights our corner.

The other ones in GM are all new or new-ish and sitting on pretty narrow majorities. He's really the only one with the political experience and freedom to do what he likes, and it shows.

RedToothBrush · 14/10/2020 21:30

Being reported this evening by local press that t3 for Lancashire and Greater Manchester is going to be imposed tomorrow. And could come into force tomorrow too.

Plastictattoo · 14/10/2020 22:14

I think we are heading for tier 3 in GM. Where is it reported that it starts tomorrow? Just wondering as usually a few days notice is given but understand they may not want people having a 'last weekend'.

StealthPolarBear · 14/10/2020 22:20

Burnham very cross on Twitter.
On radio four the morning jenrick was asked if any areas would move into tier three over the next few days and said there were "absolutely no plans"

Tempnamelady · 14/10/2020 22:21

I am dreading this. My husband will be unbearable with no pub , and if they close the gyms I will have nothing to look forward to. I had Covid earlier this year , am struggling with loss of taste still and horrific Parosmia. My caravan is stranded in N Wales and we can’t go to it.

amusedtodeath1 · 14/10/2020 22:27

My DD has to leave Lancashire to go into Greater Manchester for college. Tier 3 states no leaving or entering other areas. But schools and universities are to stay open (no mention of colleges).

If we're going into tier 3, I'd say she can't go, but it's really not clear.

fairynick · 14/10/2020 22:34

@ColdBlow how exactly is he a good constituency MP?

CrappleUmble · 14/10/2020 22:36

It was interesting that his constituents didn't make more effort to punish him for his Brexit stance, since the seat itself was so massively Remain.

grumpycivilservant · 14/10/2020 22:38

I wondered this too. He's my MP and I find him utterly useless.

fairynick · 14/10/2020 22:39

@grumpycivilservant still waiting for a reply to an email I sent him back in March
