And I bet he's desperate to tell everyone to stop being stupidly selfish.

Really? Blaming the public when 3 months ago he advised we should all "use our own judgement" when defending Dominic Cummings? Blaming the public, the majority of who are trying their best, for his government's mishandling is despicable

JKRowlingIsMyQueen · 22/09/2020 22:44

I see you stasis love it when you get told you can blame your fellow people for the cases rising instead of blaming the govt

VaggieMight · 22/09/2020 22:47

He read out a prepared speech which he almost certainly didn't write and he's had days to rehearse. People really get impressed by that?

I suppose I did notice his suit was clean and I found that quite impressive.

redgin · 22/09/2020 22:47

I haven't said I have better ideas.

I said Boris was right. In the absence of anyone knowing any better.. and no one does, let's face it... I agree that to reduce the risks we should reduce the likelihood (fairly standard RA).

So the 'rules' do just that. Distance, reduce unnecessary contact. Most people would agree schools, workplaces are more important to society that us all partying.

So I don't claim to know better. As far as I can see they're doing their best, given no one has any prior experience.

Perhaps some on here think otherwise.

I think a decent testing system would have stopped the spread actually, that being the whole point of testing and tracing and all Shock

MitziK · 22/09/2020 22:50

@TheSeedsOfADream

Yep. Here I sit thinking first fecking Piers Morgan becomes the vox pop flag bearer, now Boris says good stuff.

FFS. Coldplay will be making interesting music next.

I am particularly pleased with his comments about the elderly. The MN eugenicists won't be liking that.

Steady now.

We've got to have Arlene Foster converting before that can happen.

FlyingFlamingo · 22/09/2020 22:51

And actually local authorities do have prior experience of containing outbreaks, albeit on a smaller scale, but instead of giving them funding to upscale their existing procedures Boris decided to throw money at Serco...

Unsure33 · 22/09/2020 22:51

@CountreeGurl

He did not . He said a minority were not following the rules and it is so boring to harp on about DC when he did not break SD rules and he had a vunerable child .

There are endless posts on here about people constantly breaking the rules it’s no regard for the consequences so what is he supposed to do ?

Bol87 · 22/09/2020 22:51

Problem is everyone I know had lost complete & utter faith, respect or compliance to anything he says. He’s been utterly useless. His main man broke the rules but hey, that’s fine cos he’s my friend. And frankly grouse shooting being exempt from the rule of 6 was the final nail in the coffin.

Maybe if he’d had more integrity at the start, more people would have & continue too follow the rules.. 🙄

Unsure33 · 22/09/2020 22:54

@FlyingFlamingo

Actually we are testing the second highest number in Europe . The problem is the quicker tests are not so accurate . But it may be that it is necessary to forsake accuracy for quantity but again the government will be criticised which ever choice they make .,

Unsure33 · 22/09/2020 22:56

@compulsiveliar2019

What a load of complete BS .

TheSeedsOfADream · 22/09/2020 22:57

We have the capacity to test.
Not are testing.
Haven't you seen all the revelations that those fabled 300,000 a day worked out at 55,000?

Heffalooomia · 22/09/2020 22:59

It does feel as if there has been a 'sea change'

MadameBlobby · 22/09/2020 22:59

D.C. left his home with Coronavirus symptoms. He clearly broke the rules. Only an idiot would think otherwise

MadameBlobby · 22/09/2020 23:01

“They’re doing their best” really isn’t good enough. This is his job that he’s been elected and paid to do. He’s hardly doing us a favour

compulsiveliar2019 · 22/09/2020 23:01

Please enlighten me as to why? 🙄

Wishfulthinking1977 · 22/09/2020 23:01

From someone who backed him from the start, from a very tory town he's is so off the mark it's scary! My whole area is now anti Boris because he has destroyed their businesses, decimated our small health care facilities, abandoned our care homes, destroyed are already overstretched mh team and caused our communities to turn on each other! For us (where I live) we feel betrayed and lied to as we still have 0 cases!

What??? Your actually trying to justify DC actions???

He had no good reason to do what he did. He has family living round the corner who could have taken care of his son! And if he was too poorly to take care of him how was he capable of driving to Durham???

I'm sorry but I cannot take any of your posts seriously now!

JJsDinerWaffles · 22/09/2020 23:07

Ah well done Boris - hired a new scriptwriter and listened to the PR person who said to speak clearly. Jolly good show.

Juststopswimming · 22/09/2020 23:15

Wow so many people on this thread lapping everything up he has to say, blaming the terrible, reckless public instead of the lack of track and trace and testing disasters, the woeful handling of the DC disaster.

I find people's lack of critical thinking far more terrifying than covid.

Four legs good, two legs bad.

CountreeGurl · 22/09/2020 23:32

@Unsure33
What is he supposed to do? Not have given up community testing in March, not have awarded a contract to Deloitte, rather than using the expertise of the NHS, not have bullied office workers back into city centres to protect the interests of his cronies, not have encouraged people to pack into pubs and restaurants while there is no reliable test and trace service, not have undermined his own messaging by defending Dominic Cummings, turned up to COBRA meetings. I mean, was that a serious question...

Howslifenow · 23/09/2020 00:09

Is that you again Cummings.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 23/09/2020 00:52

I absolutely hate the guy but much of what he said did make sense except the Test and Trace bit. Totally crazy. How can you say a measure brought in to control outbreaks had nothing to do with the rise in cases.

Boris is right

Did you not all see the bit where he removed his wig? It's the only explanation I can think of.
