And I bet he's desperate to tell everyone to stop being stupidly selfish.

He was very careful to stress where the blame would lie should he have to take more extreme measures, wasn't he?

I think it's a bit irrelevant what hospitality and so on he shuts, it's endemic now. He's just going through the motions. If more than a couple of hospitals fill up, we don't have the staff for the Nightingales ready . We will have to go back to blended learning, queuing up at the supermarkets, and one walk a day, and he knows this fine well, but it won't be his fault, it'll be the pesky people who didn't follow the rules.

TheSeedsOfADream · 22/09/2020 21:19

Yep. Here I sit thinking first fecking Piers Morgan becomes the vox pop flag bearer, now Boris says good stuff.

FFS. Coldplay will be making interesting music next.

I am particularly pleased with his comments about the elderly. The MN eugenicists won't be liking that.

Pixxie7 · 22/09/2020 21:33

Agree that he was far more professional tonight, however not sure that these measures are enough.

HopeClearwater · 22/09/2020 21:36

Going off topic, do you think he's had some highlights put in? It looks blonder than ever

Been in the sunshine 😉

It’s really disconcerting when I agree with Bozza but I agree. The world is an odd place at the moment.

You are totally wrong re Coldplay though. Never going to happen.

Pan2 · 22/09/2020 21:47

Did no-one hear him in the chamber blustering on when asked about the pathetic testing system and tracking? And still dishonestly calling it the NHS app?

Is this thread sponsored and staffed by Central Office?

TheSeedsOfADream · 22/09/2020 21:49

Do an AS mate and see what I usually have to say. Hmm

nancy75 · 22/09/2020 21:50

@MintyMabel

He said testing and tracing was not the answer. What was he right about?
I’m very glad someone else caught that, I heard him say it earlier today & was gonsmacked. Yes he is right, we all have to play our part, however when it comes to the govt playing their part (testing, track & trace) they are letting us down
picklemewalnuts · 22/09/2020 21:51

I didn't listen, so can't comment overall. I know he said work from home and only two weeks ago said 'get back to the office', so I'm not impressed at that. Mind, anyone with any sense knew going back to the office was a bad move and wouldn't last.

MaxNormal · 22/09/2020 21:52

What happened to the world beating Track and Trace and Operation Moonshot?

ohthegoats · 22/09/2020 21:54

It's not him, he's just the messenger. Don't forget he was also the messenger for a lot of utter shite. That was partly responsible for the deaths of 65,000 people. How anyone can support him in any context, is just weird. Even my ex Tory councillor dad thinks he's hideous.

notevenat20 · 22/09/2020 21:54

To be fair, there are good quality scientific advisors around him. The only skill/judgement he applied was not to ignore them.

ohthegoats · 22/09/2020 21:55

Feb. Wash hands & sing God Save Queen
Mar. Catch virus &achieve herd immunity
Apr. Shit, no, bunker in & lockdown
July. Go have a pint, for the Queen
Aug. Eat out & help economy
Sept. Get back to work to help Pret
Now bunker in again to save Xmas

Honestly, it's embarrassing.

nancy75 · 22/09/2020 21:55

Two weeks ago those working from home were selfish & responsible for the destruction of our economy. Now we should work from home.
He told us about operation moonshot , and then told us that we had none of the components needed to achieve it.
One ok speech (probably written for him) does not make him a good leader

notevenat20 · 22/09/2020 21:56

Track and trace they are still trying to improve but it is up and running. Operation moonshot was just a PR stunt. It can be safely ignored.

strawberrysandpecans · 22/09/2020 21:58

What's his actual plan though? He says stuff but that's just hot air without some actual strategy to back it up.

Imo he ballsed up by not sacking Dominic Cummings and nothing has been the same since in terms of people following the rules, I think people felt cheated by what happened there with DC

timeforawine · 22/09/2020 21:59

Very good speech and a good balance between trying to bring down cases with protecting hospitality jobs and the economy.
I just hope people comply, they are really trying to avoid another full lockdown, but it will come if people don't start listening and acting responsibly. Like he said, your Covid cough could be someone else's death. Follow the rules!

TurquoiseDress · 22/09/2020 22:00

Yes I agree that Boris was actually making some sense tonight!

timeforawine · 22/09/2020 22:00

I did like this though 😂

Boris is right
EmMac7 · 22/09/2020 22:02

For all the missteps and ineptitude this crisis has, surprisingly, convinced me that Boris is a man with a good heart. Certainly no Trump or Bolsonaro (low standard, I know).

One okish speech does not a good prime minister make!

It's an absolute disgrace how the government have dealt with this pandemic. I have zero faith in that improving any time soon.

QueenBlueberries · 22/09/2020 22:10

Oh dear, not my impression at all. He decided to put all the blame on us, for 'breaking the rules'. We don't break the rules - we went back to work, we went to cafes and restaurants, we went on holidays, we sent our kids back to school, we went back on public transport.

The economy reopening without an adequate TEST, track and trace (we failed at TEST, so not good) is causing the surge in Covid, not people 'breaking the rules'. Perfect way for him to wash his hands, again, of all responsibilities. And as I can read here, so many people are just lapping it up.

redgin · 22/09/2020 22:11

I'd be really interested to know what you'd have done exactly?
