Has anyone called out mask slip ups in shops?

Dollyparton3 · 28/08/2020 16:01

I use the term "slip ups" politely.

Last week in Matalan, man at the tills with his family had pulled his mask down to his chin. Another woman walking round the store with it pulled under her nose so her moutb was covered but nothing else.

Yesterday a couple in an antique shop both pulled their masks down then took them off whilst walking around the shop. I get very huffy and loud every time I see it but what I really want to do is call it out and ask them to "put the mask on properly or leave the shop". Is it just me? Does anyone have any witty suggestions of how to suggest to people that they follow the guidelines properly for the good of everyone?

What would you get out of that?

FluffyKittensinabasket · 28/08/2020 16:07

Why would you bother?

FedUpofLockdown123 · 28/08/2020 16:07

Sometimes I pull mine down for a few seconds so I can see where I'm going when my glasses steam up. If someone commented on this I would ignore them and if someone huffed loudly I'd think they were pathetic.

DianaT1969 · 28/08/2020 16:08

No, I haven't berated strangers in stores about how they are wearing masks. There will always be a percentage of non-compliance. There will always be people who are medically exempt too.

Rosehip10 · 28/08/2020 16:08

Grow up

InDeoEstMeaFiducia · 28/08/2020 16:10

Yeah, it's just you. There's no way to wittily be a dick. Grow the fuck up.

Nochangeplease · 28/08/2020 16:11

I feel more annoyed with people blindly following all the nonsense rules without question. If my mask becomes uncomfortable and I’m not within 2 metres of others I take it off. Because I have common sense.

foamrolling · 28/08/2020 16:12

Oh dear oh dear. Maybe get a flashing light and yell 'née naw new naw mask police'?!

BumbleNova · 28/08/2020 16:12

Covid 19 has really brought out the worst in some people and you are demonstrating that wonderfully OP. I'm really not sure who made you the mask police.

Jrobhatch29 · 28/08/2020 16:13

No because its none of my business. I had to go in the chemist this morning and accidently pulled it up to talk without thinking. I obviously didn't do it on purpose but felt the need to apologise because of all the judgemental people.

byvirtue · 28/08/2020 16:13

Yes it’s just you. Who cares how people wear their mask there is virtually no chance of catching Covid in a shop. In my area 1 in 25000 People has Covid. Read up on the stats it’s hardly the killer the government and the media would have us believe. More people are currently committing suicide, dying from cancer, or dying from a heart attack than from Covid. But sure become the self appointed mask police if that makes your life seem worthwhile, whilst you are at it why don’t you challenge everyone not wearing a mask just in case they don’t have an exemption.

Or just get a life and let others get on with theirs!

Jrobhatch29 · 28/08/2020 16:14

Down* I obviously didn't pull it over my eyes

LindainLockdown · 28/08/2020 16:14

Hilarious, but glad you are making the serious point that very often the wearing of a mask is quite pointless.

dementedpixie · 28/08/2020 16:16

I think you should keep your gob shut tbh. I find it amusing to spot the many various ways people wear them wrongly but would never say anything about it.

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 28/08/2020 16:29

Are this much of a busybody about other aspects of strangers' behaviour?

Multipack5678 · 28/08/2020 16:37

I wouldn't say anything because it's absolutely none of my business. I wear a mask as per the rules. What other people do is entirely a matter for them.

Theelderscrolls · 28/08/2020 16:42

Does my head in too op. Either wear it properly or don't fucking bother.

MadamMooch · 28/08/2020 16:45

I have asthma and find wearing a mask hard work, but I still do it.
If I needed to pull mine off and have a breather, I wouldn’t hesitate.

AuntieMarys · 28/08/2020 16:46

Just mind your own business. My god, there are some nasty busybodies around.

Sunflowerlover20 · 28/08/2020 16:48

Huffy and loud? Hmm really? Don’t be so bloody childish!

woodhill · 28/08/2020 16:48

No not really, we have been asked to wear them in the shops so unless you are exempt for valid reasons why not play the game

They are irritating to wear for most people anyway

TempsPerdu · 28/08/2020 16:49

Nope, because I’m not a massive busybody and have no desire to police other people’s behaviour. I wear a mask, although I hate it, but DP is medically exempt from mask-wearing; he’s probably one of the unfortunate people you’re huffing and puffing over.

TheSeedsOfADream · 28/08/2020 16:50

Yes. A woman with one round her neck at the deli counter yesterday. The assistant had already told her he wasn't going to serve her until she wore it correctly (I'm not in the UK and they are mandatory) She started mouthing that Covid was a conspiracy and was abusive so we stuck up for him.

wildcherries · 28/08/2020 16:52

Yeah, it's just you.

Does anyone have any witty suggestions of how to suggest to people that they follow the guidelines properly for the good of everyone?

Oh, god. Mind your own damn business.
