Has anyone called out mask slip ups in shops?

I use the term "slip ups" politely.

Last week in Matalan, man at the tills with his family had pulled his mask down to his chin. Another woman walking round the store with it pulled under her nose so her moutb was covered but nothing else.

Yesterday a couple in an antique shop both pulled their masks down then took them off whilst walking around the shop. I get very huffy and loud every time I see it but what I really want to do is call it out and ask them to "put the mask on properly or leave the shop". Is it just me? Does anyone have any witty suggestions of how to suggest to people that they follow the guidelines properly for the good of everyone?

In Ireland, this point is rarely made. As I said earlier, there's almost no-one without a mask

I would assume they’re avoiding shops.

It’s a bit like when France banned burkini. It wasn’t that loads of women suddenly switched to swimsuits, they just stopped going swimming.

@floatyboat I can, but it is quite traumatic and the idea makes me avoid going places where I need to wear one.

I'm exempt from wearing a mask. I wear one anyway simply because I'm scared of the reaction I will get if I don't. It sucks.

Don't wear one, it's absolutely no one else business and shame on them for being judgemental twats.

I mentioned on a thread the other day that when I was in tesco a woman in the same aisle as me was tutting very loudly and sighing at a woman who didn't have a mask on. She also kept trying to make eye contact with me to encourage me to join in with the tutting. I didnt because I don't care and its none of my business. Was that you, OP?

I have asthma, so technically exempt however wear one anyway because I can.

BUT, there is a shopping centre in my town where you have to climb 45 odd steps to get in (or walk all the way around it to get to the other entrance)

I had my mask on and when I reached the top of the stairs I was struggling to breath and as I was breathing heavily, every time I breathed in, my mask got sucked onto my face so I literally couldn't get any air.

I took my mask off to catch my breath and was WELL over about 15 meters away from another human being and a woman literally ran at me screaming at me to put my mask on because there is a killer virus and it was the LAW.

I told her to fuck off because I didn't have enough breath in me to say anything else.

I wonder if she felt big and clever attempting to humiliate me and belittle me like a child.

DH had a big operation last week. When we met the surgeon to go through the risks etc, he wore his mask without covering his nose. Should I have "called him out?"

Please, just find something else to do! Honestly why does this concern you? Jesus some people have too much time on their hands.

I just can't understand the type of person who would make a comment to a child or anyone actually, what the hell makes them think they are so superior. It just makes them stand out as ridiculous rule loving twats

Because a child, a person with a child or a person that looks in anyway vulnerable is more likely to get shouted at or abused. Many of the self appointed mask police would be far too scared to challenge anyone who may be aggressive back. So they huff and puff passive aggressively until they see an easy target and then they have a go.

I'm another that feels sympathy with Dolly Parton.

Wearing a mask covering the mouth but not the nose may not be ideal but it is better than nothing as someone breathing quietly through there nose is spreading less flu droplets around than someone talking, coughing, laughing or sneezing.

Yes I said 'flu' - there is far more flu around than CV currently and it is killing more people. You are much more likely to catch flu or a cold than you are Covid19

Exactly this
