Has anyone called out mask slip ups in shops?

Dollyparton3 · 28/08/2020 16:01

I use the term "slip ups" politely.

Last week in Matalan, man at the tills with his family had pulled his mask down to his chin. Another woman walking round the store with it pulled under her nose so her moutb was covered but nothing else.

Yesterday a couple in an antique shop both pulled their masks down then took them off whilst walking around the shop. I get very huffy and loud every time I see it but what I really want to do is call it out and ask them to "put the mask on properly or leave the shop". Is it just me? Does anyone have any witty suggestions of how to suggest to people that they follow the guidelines properly for the good of everyone?

Christ, sometimes I really wish there was a chance that this bloody thing would wipe out the whole human race!

JacobReesMogadishu · 28/08/2020 16:56

You’d have loved me earlier in the queue in the supermarket. I have really small ears and glasses and the elastic and glasses pull my tiny ears forward and masks ping off. So I’m about go get served and my mask flew off. I’d put it back on and as I do one side, the other side comes off. Bloke behind the till was laughing! Took me ages to get my mask back on! 😂

I do normally wear behind the head tie ones but had forgotten it and had to buy a mask in town.

vodkaredbullgirl · 28/08/2020 16:56

nope

DownThePlath · 28/08/2020 16:58

No, because i'm not a twat.

Namechangearoo · 28/08/2020 17:01

Huffy and loud 😂😂😂 Well I’m sure that showed them! Your medal will be in the post.

Biancadelrioisback · 28/08/2020 17:01

I forgot mine when popping to the corner shop last week and popped my head in to ask if they wanted me to go home to get it. She said no it's fine as no one else was in the shop, as I came out there was a lady walking towards the shop and did the biggest, most pathetic display of disgust that I didn't have my mask on. Huffing and fake coughing towards me and made a huge show of reading the sign on the door about masks.
Was that you OP?

Christ. This thread is a wind up surley?

KobeWan · 28/08/2020 17:06

It was chucking it down yesterday so I went out in my only waterproof coat which is thick and like a winter coat.

I did my supermarket shop wearing it and with my mask on throughout. I was quite warm!
As I started putting my massive weekly shop on the conveyor and bagging it up at the other end I went dizzy and felt faint (which I'm inclined to do every now and then 🤦‍♀️). It was the first time I've found wearing a mask really difficult and I now really understand why some people need to be exempt.
I really don't think it's anybody's business to be commenting on whether masks are being worn or worn correctly unless they are authorised personnel. I'll speak up in my workplace, you speak up in yours, but elsewhere, keep your nose out!

Abraid2 · 28/08/2020 17:08

I’m amazed nobody did when I ran into a petrol station to pay, holding my mask in my hand and forgetting to actually put it over my face. They looked a little surprised at the till but were too polite to say anything, I was mortified when I realized. No excuse, just brain failure.

DianaT1969 · 28/08/2020 17:08

As someone said on a previous thread, I think you should shoot anyone who is annoying you in this way OP.

DianaT1969 · 28/08/2020 17:09

Now I'm worried that I have incited violence. To be clear OP, that was sarcasm. Please don't shoot anyone.

OptimisticSix · 28/08/2020 17:10

I am wearing my mask and minding my own business.

SavingShoes · 28/08/2020 17:12

I took mine off in the shop when I stacked it over a broken sign stand that was left in one of the aisles.
They're useless if you use your un clean hands to reapply them.

Sarahandco · 28/08/2020 17:13

No, you are not allowed to confront people about their mask, if they are not wearing one or if it wrongly positioned.

PhilCornwall1 · 28/08/2020 17:15

I get very huffy and loud every time I see it but what I really want to do is call it out and ask them to "put the mask on properly or leave the shop". Is it just me? Well, you could always do what happened to me in M&S this morning, where 30 seconds in the shop I was called a "cunt" and about 2 minutes after that "scum", because I didn't have one on, for a very valid reason. I didn't quite get that treatment in Waterstones, but I was commented on with "it's twats like him that spread it around".

I'll not be going shopping again.

How's that for a couple of ideas for you. Alternatively, you could just leave them alone!!!!

HeresMe · 28/08/2020 17:16

Future thread from OP, someone told me to fuck off in shop and I'm so upset for telling them wearing mask wrong.

Grow up and mind your own business.

SquirrelFan · 28/08/2020 17:17

Wow, you're getting a lot of stick, OP! I don't have a witty way to remind people to wear their mask properly but I wish staff would. If we all wear a mask when we're indoors and unable to maintain a 2 metre distance, we will seriously help prevent the spread of this disease. It's so simple and so many people refuse. It does my head in. (and yes, I know some people can't wear one, and no, I don't tut)

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 28/08/2020 17:22

When I see someone with one of those patterned, material masks and it isn't coordinated with their outfit I feel compelled to rip it off and throw it on the floor.

I haven't done this yet but a few more glasses of wine and I think I just might. Shock

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/08/2020 17:22

I get very huffy and loud every time I see it
Being huffy and loud is not a good idea during CV19 as it spreads the virus further than Oblivious and Normal. Instead of seeking witty suggestions of how to suggest to people that they follow the guidelines properly perhaps you should focus on your own risk management OP.Hmm

Mugofsteaminghottea · 28/08/2020 17:23

Can't believe the abuse that OP is getting.

There is a virus.
We have been asked to wear masks.
End of.

I find it unbelievable that OP is seen as completely unreasonable for expecting people to comply... Baffled.

netflixismysidehustle · 28/08/2020 17:24

Not a good idea

A bus driver in France told a passenger to put on a mask and ended up being dragged off the bus and kicked to death.

Elieza · 28/08/2020 17:28

I agree with you OP. I follow the rules as best I can, I wear a mask to protect others, and I wish others would too to protect me, and that there was some way of this being policed.

However there isn’t any way currently and there is no way of knowing who is just being selfish about not wearing a mask as they “don’t like it”, and who needs to not wear a mask for totally genuine reasons, which I agree with too.

So we just have to mind our own business. And as you see in the MN community, this strategy is something which many people would advise.

bigknickersbigknockers · 28/08/2020 17:29

You will get "huffy" with the wrong person one day OP and end up getting a smack if you are not careful.

WorraLiberty · 28/08/2020 17:35

Missing the point of the thread I know

But poor old Dolly Parton having this nonsense posted in her name Sad

im5050 · 28/08/2020 17:36

I have to sometimes pull the mask down over my nose as I really struggle wearing it .
If you told me to put it on properly I would deliberately take it off and tell you to fuck off and mind your own business
