Has anyone called out mask slip ups in shops?

Dollyparton3 · 28/08/2020 16:01

I use the term "slip ups" politely.

Last week in Matalan, man at the tills with his family had pulled his mask down to his chin. Another woman walking round the store with it pulled under her nose so her moutb was covered but nothing else.

Yesterday a couple in an antique shop both pulled their masks down then took them off whilst walking around the shop. I get very huffy and loud every time I see it but what I really want to do is call it out and ask them to "put the mask on properly or leave the shop". Is it just me? Does anyone have any witty suggestions of how to suggest to people that they follow the guidelines properly for the good of everyone?

You’ve heard of invisible disabilities right? Mind your own business!

Devlesko · 28/08/2020 17:39

You don't have to wear one anyway if you don't want to. Confused

What are all the busybodies going to do when life goes back to normal? They can't moan about people going out than once a day or buying non essential shopping so masks are all the poor things have left.

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 28/08/2020 17:56

@DownThePlath

No, because i'm not a twat.
Exactly what came in to my head when I read the OP.
BittersweetMemories · 28/08/2020 17:58

What exactly would you be hoping to achieve, apart from looking like a complete arsehole? Mind your own business for fuck sake

Ohchristmastreeohchristmastree · 28/08/2020 17:58

I’m surprised how much abuse the OP is getting here too.

And ironically it’s mostly from people who think it is a good idea to ‘mind your own business’!

Gurtcha · 28/08/2020 18:00

No because I’m not a dick and am capable with going about my day without policing other people.

Topseyt · 28/08/2020 18:01

If y criticised how I was wearing my mask you would get short shrift.

People have all manner of reasons for doing what they do.

My Dad has severe COPD and heart problems. He cannot wear a mask at all because of those, but outwardly he wouldn't initially look and different to anyone else who can wear one. So you would huff and puff loudly at him, would you?

I would only huff and puff at the self appointed and ignorant mask police. Not at mask or non-mask wearers.

BittersweetMemories · 28/08/2020 18:03

When, exactly, is it not a good idea to mind your own business - barring if somebody is requiring your assistance.

hastingsmua1 · 28/08/2020 18:04

I’d assume you’d end up getting in an argument frankly - pick your battles, not every slight is worth your energy. People in public do weird and rude things all the time, I’d be a very angry and frustrated person if I spent my time constantly callings random out. It’s not your place.

Gurtcha · 28/08/2020 18:05

But poor old Dolly Parton having this nonsense posted in her name sad

THIS!!

I dislike you even more for using our sacred Dolly’s name in vain tbh

LilyMumsnet · 28/08/2020 18:05

Hi folks

Can we remember peace and love, please?

CarrieFour · 28/08/2020 18:05

I was in a queue at a cafe the other day to grab a drink.

Woman in front kept looking at me strange.

Wasn't until after a few minutes I realised I'd totally forgotten about my mask. As soon as I remembered I put it on.

But honestly I wish instead of the evils she'd said something. Honest mistake and we all need to work together.

BittersweetMemories · 28/08/2020 18:07

Can we remember peace and love, please?

OP isn't showing anyone peace and love by huffing and wanting to give random strangers a telling off in the shop to make herself feel good 🤷🏻‍♀️

OLGADEEPOLGA · 28/08/2020 18:12

Mind your own business OP. Masks are a joke.

Quite.
MaudesMum · 28/08/2020 18:38

I was going in and out of shops a couple of weeks ago, and totally forgot to put my mask on for one shop. The very nice woman who ran the shop said to me "if you don't have a mask I can provide you with one". I apologised, and said I had one and had just forgotten (and put it on), she said it often happens, we both got on with our days. I really think its up to people who run shops to do whatever policing is necessary, and they get extra bonus points if they do it in a friendly and tactful way.

DespairingHomeowner · 28/08/2020 18:45

OP - I think you are perfectly reasonable to want to shop safely, ie without being confronted with non mask wearers

It would be great if shop staff were supposed to tackle the issue, and for the exempt to wear badges (as they ARE the ones putting others at risk, whether they want to/ have difficult circumstances or not)

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 28/08/2020 18:47

Oh my god. Is this for real? If you want to politely help someone then that's possibly ok but PLANNING a witty smart arse remark is insanely pathetic

Jenasaurus · 28/08/2020 18:52

I think OP is being given a hard time over this, I understand your anxiety when you see people with their masks on incorrectly. It is everyones business to try and restrict the spread of the virus.

garlictwist · 28/08/2020 18:56

For some reason wearing a mask makes my nose stream with snot which then pools into the mask and into my mouth. So I have to keep pulling it down to wipe. Sorry.

DipSwimSwoosh · 28/08/2020 18:59

Just you OP.
Masks are pointless and uncomfortable.

XiCi · 28/08/2020 19:00

You must be huffing and puffing alot OP because I reckon at least 50% of people dont bother wearing them in shops at all. That's my experience anyway.

HeIenaDove · 28/08/2020 19:06

Jesus @PhilCornwall1 not again. This pandemic has shown how nasty , disabilist ignorant and uneducated some people are Flowers Wine
