Do you reckon we could go on lockdown again

If there is another spike ? I’m happy to go back to work but also scared and I can’t really explain why. I’m young and healthy so not really at risk...just a bit scared to leave my bubble

No one knows - but people on MN love to pretend that they do and that we are doomed and it’s all very bleak for the ‘long haul’.

itsaweddingone · 17/05/2020 21:37

@LittleFoxKit

That is basically a bullshit meme you found on social media shared to incite fear.

celan · 17/05/2020 21:39

Agree, @itsaweddingone

LaurieFairyCake · 17/05/2020 21:41

Of course we will - Johnson LITERALLY said this last week Confused

"We will not hesitate to bring in restrictions again, tougher ones if we have to"

Derbygerbil · 17/05/2020 21:44

@LittleFoxKit

The evidence from places that have schools open suggests that opening schools won’t result in another surge. Sweden’s Covid numbers may not be they’ve been pretty stable - reducing slowly - over the past six weeks or so, and they’ve kept schools open (up to the age of 16). Similarly there’s been no evidence of any spike in cases in Denmark - they’re continuing to fall. Finally, even though schools were open in the UK almost until lockdown, I don’t believe there’s any evidence that teachers have been infected or died in any higher proportion to the population average.

Wunderweb · 17/05/2020 21:44

So worried there’s going to be second peak then a no-deal Brexit....

Bubblebee7 · 17/05/2020 21:45

Well it is very bleak for those that are loosing jobs. Schools haven’t gone back yet and even if they do we can always go to how we started.

CoffeeRunner · 17/05/2020 21:48

I think it will become necessary. I don’t think it will happen though. I think the second wave will be bigger in terms of number of infections & deaths. But I don’t think we’ll go backwards on lockdown.

MarriedToABellend · 17/05/2020 21:49

Our local health authority have just taken on 300 support carers on banknote the expected peak which thrybtold.mybfriend in her training they expect to start end of June/beginning July.

roses2 · 17/05/2020 21:54

Once people start travelling and flights start going again that's when the R number will rapidly go up - not by people who have been under lockdown the past two months being complacent now.

lljkk · 17/05/2020 22:22

The Gallup or Yougov poll or whatever it was, says that 67% of the public agree with govt lockdown so far or want a stronger lockdown.

That means to me that vast majority are willing to suck it up. I am in a minority to think otherwise. The majority are supporting all these controls and would stomach more.

So yes, I think regular NHS activity, other regular public services, regular education, regular training, regular private enterprise, hospitality industry, "the economy", physical contact with anyone outside our own homes -- 67% have decided all that is worth sacrificing to sharply reduce covid19 transmission & deaths. Those are not prices I want to pay, but a big majority support these tradeoffs. Whether I like it or not.

confusedandtired99 · 17/05/2020 22:56

I think there will need to be subsequent lockdowns but I don’t think they will do it. At some point I think they will just say it’s not economically viable and let it rip through the country

Isoneedtorun · 17/05/2020 23:39

Surely the Nightingale Hospitals will take the overflow Covid patients in any subsequent waves?

frasersmummy · 17/05/2020 23:45

I wouldnt put too much faith in polls

Ask if
Would you be happy to see 1000s more deaths
Do you think we should protect the nhs
Do you think staff should return to packed tube trains..
Final question do you support further lockdown.. Of course you will say yes

Ask. These questions

Do you think enough attention is being paid to mh in this country
Do you think its fair that kids might lose more months of educatuon
Do you worry about nurseries going out. Of business
Final question.. Do you support further lockdown
You are going to say no

Polls in this kinda situation are useless

user1471439240 · 18/05/2020 00:34

The choice will be entirely in companies hands once they need to pay half of the furlough. Expect legislation for public sector to be laid off on not full pay also. So no, a lockdown will not happen again. It is to be ran through on a slow burn for the next 12/18 months.

Bluewarbler27 · 18/05/2020 01:49

No I don’t.

earsup · 18/05/2020 02:13

We are in North East London and depending where you go, seems almost normal... some parks full... outdoor gyms in use , barriers just removed, shops jammed full...BBQ in the forest etc etc

Oliversmumsarmy · 18/05/2020 02:21

I would say we might have a little rise now people aware going back but I think the big rise will be when the weather turns and ordinary coughs and flu hit

HesterShaw1 · 18/05/2020 12:12

There will certainly be more coughs and flu if people have had to sit around doing nothing all summer.

CuppaZa · 18/05/2020 12:12

Of course we will!

I don't think, if we had another lockdown, it will take the same form. If social distancing measures have been implemented in workplaces, I think people will be expected to continue to work. If people didn't through fear, then I think they would either not be paid or would be sacked. Furloughing would become much stricter.

MarshaBradyo · 18/05/2020 14:42

Branster I agree with you which is why I’d say no to another lock down. Or rather no to the financial support that comes with it. This is it I reckon, then slowly out of it starting now with slow increase in work then schools back in staggered fashion.

HandfulOfFlowers · 18/05/2020 14:48

Nope. People now know what hell it entails. Compliance would be too low a second time round.

purplebunny2012 · 18/05/2020 17:34

What do you mean again? Some restrictions were lifted but we're still on lockdown.
But yes, of course the restrictions are going to be put back in place. It's unavoidable
