England the only country that dissects and criticises everything the government say or do?

Whatsthis1515 · 11/05/2020 07:21

So many other countries have schools back, various shops etc etc open.
Do you think people living in those countries also were up in arms when told they could return, dissecting and slagging off everything said?
Everyone here seems to think lockdown should either last forever or until September. I'm not quite sure what September will bring that June can't

So just wondering, is this criticism unique to England or do other countries do the same? I can't help but feel the people of England are so negative

OP posts:
PianoTuner567 · 11/05/2020 07:24

Agree! Constant nitpicking and thinking the worst of everything.

user1495884620 · 11/05/2020 07:24

Did you see the lockdown protests in America?

SaladSpoons · 11/05/2020 07:27

No, every other country in the world just smiles and uncritically obeys every time the government makes a decision. Hmm

Derbygerbil · 11/05/2020 07:27

I don’t agree that everyone on MN wanted lockdown to continue to September or next year... I don’t.

But as to your point. Waiting 3 months would significantly reduce infection levels so we’d have the odd few case here and there rather than 100/1000s of new cases every day.

Derbygerbil · 11/05/2020 07:28

Probably.

Utterlydespairing · 11/05/2020 07:29

CoMpletely agree and it’s really bad on Mumsnet. It’s very left leaning. Absurdly so. It’s their way or the highway

PheasantPlucker1 · 11/05/2020 07:30

Maybe our governemnt should lead by example.

Are they willing to go back and sit in a room stuffed with people? No?

So why expect teachers to do it.

DippyAvocado · 11/05/2020 07:31

The ability to question the actions of the government is an essential feature of being a democracy. Of course it happens in other (democratic) countries.

EdwinaMay · 11/05/2020 07:32

On the news this morning they said the 2/3rds of French people are unhappy with their Govs handling of the Cvirus. It's probably the same all over but the Brits whinge more than most Grin

MarginalGain · 11/05/2020 07:35

Did you see the lockdown protests in America?

The OP is arguing that the UK seems uniquely in favour of lockdown. I agree OP.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 11/05/2020 07:36

I’ve complained quite a lot over NS handling of Scotland’s lockdown, due to our less highly populated rural areas i think approach like Germany or Sweden would have been better, hardly any deaths or cases in hospital in my area.

Actionhasmagic · 11/05/2020 07:38

WE HAVE THE SECOND HIGHEST DEATH TOLL IJ RHE WORLD THAT IS WHY PEOPLE ARE CHALLENGING GOVT DECISIONS!!!! My god it’s like your all brain washed

Branleuse · 11/05/2020 07:40

Have you missed the whole gilet jaune thing in france. The mass protests in Chile.
Just off the top of my head

Branleuse · 11/05/2020 07:41

The british moan and moan about the government and tut a bit and then do nothing about it.

BovaryX · 11/05/2020 07:41

The repeated accusation that Boris Johnson actually wants millions to die by lifting lockdown? That takes 24k paranoid political derangement syndrome.....

Pelleas · 11/05/2020 07:41

I doubt we are the only ones. But I'm glad I live in a democracy where I am free to criticise the government and monarchy.

iVampire · 11/05/2020 07:43

Three months more information on, and research into, the virus it’s transmissions and the management and treatment of those who become infected. It’s only been 5+months since the virus was identified in the first place, so a further 3 months might yield a lot

user1471499545 · 11/05/2020 07:43

There is a shit fight here in Australia over schools going back. Your country is not the only one whinging about government decisions.

BovaryX · 11/05/2020 07:44

@MarginalGain

Yes. In fact the response to the US protests from this forum was those people are nuts. Who would have thought there would be so many Brits keen on an indefinite extension of house arrest?

Nb89 · 11/05/2020 07:45

No. I think there were huge protests this weekend. I couldn't bring myself to look at the article properly because it included photos of a mammoth gathering of people with zero social distance, which tyrned my stomach, but think it could have been Germany.

WoeIsMee · 11/05/2020 07:45

I am finding mumsnet more and more to be just incredible wearing.

It’s so left leaning it’s ridiculous. And to the poster who says it’s their way or the highway - yes. Totally true. Unless you subscribe to the incredibly narrow, blinkered and rigid view of the vocal few then be prepared to be called and accused of anything and everything.

My experience of views in real life is much more varied, moderate and reasonable.

So no, I think it’s moany mumsnet - not Britain.

BovaryX · 11/05/2020 07:45

So why expect teachers to do it

Because it's their job.

TooGood2BeTrue · 11/05/2020 07:46

Other countries don't have the highest death toll in Europe though, have they? 🙄

JessicaDay · 11/05/2020 07:47

Greece has had 148 deaths because they took measures quickly. Trust in the government has gone up there, as has national pride.

UK has had over 30,000 deaths and trust in government has gone down.

Maybe there’s a pattern in there somewhere.

ThatsWhatHeroesDo · 11/05/2020 07:49

Its healthy to be able to question and criticize the government. (IMO the majority of the press don't do it enough). A government that can't be questioned is a very dangerous beast.
