I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Are you in the US Laurie ?

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:09

Just watched the video about how to do it Shock I'm actually filling a tube with blood from my finger

I wouldn't be confident it was accurate and concerned that if it said I had had it, I would be less careful

reallifegetsintheway2 · 05/05/2020 14:09

You pay your money, you take your choice.
Good on OP- spend it on what you want

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:09

No, London - worst area in London for CV, most deaths I think - possibly highest saturation of virus too

@SluggishSnail looking at this www.bbc.com/future/article/20200421-will-we-ever-be-immune-to-covid-19 which seems to suggest that T cell response (no antibodies) might explain the strangely low numbers of infections between family - ie the whole family have been infected and are immune, but only certain members have antibodies..? Very small study though.

theDudesmummy · 05/05/2020 14:10

where did you buy the test?

Jellybean27 · 05/05/2020 14:10

Place marking!

IndieTara · 05/05/2020 14:10

£99 isn't bad if you can afford it

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:10

It's not that way round Amelie - it can give a false negative but not a false positive - so if it tests positive I've definitely had it

Suggest you watch Chris Whitty's Covid 19 talk to understand the current situation about this sort of tests...

GoldenZigZag · 05/05/2020 14:11

Wowsers

FourTeaFallOut · 05/05/2020 14:11

God I'd love to know if I've had it. I'm extremely vulnerable and in the shielded group but I had a lot of the symptoms bar a temperature in March. If I have had it and managed it without hospitalisation then I won't have to worry about being the weakest link in my house and the reason we can't even go for a walk.

ZaphodBeeblerox · 05/05/2020 14:13

How do you get a test? I’d want to get tested too (wouldn’t everyone!)

LycraLovingLass · 05/05/2020 14:14

If it only gives false negatives and nit false positives I would be happy to pay for that. I am fairly sure we had it the week before lockdown.

maria860 · 05/05/2020 14:16

How long does it take to find out ? I would pay for one tbh

divafever99 · 05/05/2020 14:18

Aren't I right in thinking there is no evidence to suggest even if you have had the virus you won't get re-infected?

Weallhavevalidopinions · 05/05/2020 14:18

I would be interested to know your results.

Thanks for posting.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 05/05/2020 14:19

But why does it matter if you've had it before, if you can catch it again?

loobyloo1234 · 05/05/2020 14:21

Interesting

I have googled it and I can only find an Ad relating to actually buying it. Definitely legit from Abbott OP?

TooMuchBloodyChoice · 05/05/2020 14:21

You should've bought the vacuum - I've heard they're great.

But if this gives you peace of mind, then there's no harm - but have you considered that you might not have had it and therefore have no antibodies? Will you be ok with that outcome?

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:21

Because they think there's 3 strains at the moment and Uk is speculated the first round was the weaker one

It's also more likely that if you've had it the next time you get it will be a weaker effect

OP posts:
RedToothBrush · 05/05/2020 14:21

If it's positive (there aren't false positives only false negatives) then I have bought peace of mind knowing I've had the virus

Except you haven't.

Because there is no guarantee you can't catch it twice or that one strain offers immunity to another.

Thus meaning you have a false sense of security which is dangerous to you and dangerous to others.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:22

The website claims it's the Abbott test - that's all I know

OP posts:
Aridane · 05/05/2020 14:22

I too would like to get a test - the search criteria suggested by a previous poster only takes me to multiple articles about it
