I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 13:09

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

Yes, the nhs have ordered millions of them

And they've been very widely and publicly criticised for doing so as it's so inaccurate as to be utterly useless and a waste of the £millions they've paid for them. If it says positive there's a very high chance you're actually negative and vice versa.

I agree with you DH. Some basic research would have told you that this was a waste of time/money, and you won't be able to get any reassurance from the result.

theDudesmummy · 05/05/2020 14:23

what is the website?

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 05/05/2020 14:25

How much blood do you need to squeeze out??

JacobReesMogadishu · 05/05/2020 14:26

I think £99 for a 99% accurate test is good.

HappyLemonSadLemon · 05/05/2020 14:26

Have PM'd you OP.

ChateauMargaux · 05/05/2020 14:26

I would do this too!

MarginalGain · 05/05/2020 14:28

Exciting. I imagine legions of MNers pacing their living rooms for the next 48 hours along with you!

I would love for all my family to have it. Very curious about my kids, both of whom go to schools having an international catchment.

loobyloo1234 · 05/05/2020 14:28

I've just found this on the Abbot website about the test:

Abbott plans to ship 20 million antibody tests in the U.S. in June and beyond as we expand our testing capabilities to our Alinity i lab system.

I can't see any link from them to buy the test. Only the Ad's on Google. Hmm

Aridane · 05/05/2020 14:29

Come on, OP - post the link so some posters can patronise your dumbness and others of us order

userxx · 05/05/2020 14:29

If it makes you happy then it's money well spent I suppose.

Missteebeee · 05/05/2020 14:30

I’d love to get one done

I’m a nanny and the family I work for wanted me to go into London and pay £300 for one

If I can do one from home, that’s ideal

IncrediblySadToo · 05/05/2020 14:31

@theDudesmummy Just read the thread instead of keep asking questions that have already been answered

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:31

I am sat waiting for the courier - if it turns up and the box is the Abbott box online I will post a photo (I don't think I've posted photos today so won't be at my limit). If it's not the Abbott box and I've been scammed like a good 'un I will say Grin

I've been on here about 12 years so I'm happy to have been taken for a tit ..

@Missteebeee

I’m a nanny and the family I work for wanted me to go into London and pay £300 for one

Were they paying for it?
Were they driving you door to door?
Have they had it done?

Peppafrig · 05/05/2020 14:33

If I had the money I would do it too.

Bimbleboo · 05/05/2020 14:35

@CadburysTastesVileNow the best comment of today !!!!

Missteebeee · 05/05/2020 14:36

@AmelieTaylor yes they would have paid

No they wouldn’t have driven me and they haven’t had it done

Burpalot · 05/05/2020 14:36

Where's the drive through test?

Hopeful201 · 05/05/2020 14:39

I thought about it but am waiting to see what is being proposed by the Govt. I am interested to see what happens to your test....

Aridane · 05/05/2020 14:40

@IncrediblySadToo

Nobody has answered the question @theDudesmummy has asked!!

NotAnotherUserNumber · 05/05/2020 14:40

@LaurieFairyCake I am not sure you fully understand the accuracy. Abbott seem to be claiming 95.5% specificity. This means if there has been disease prevalence of 5% and 1000 people took their test, then 5 of those people would expect to get false positives.

NotAnotherUserNumber · 05/05/2020 14:41

Sorry meant to write 99.5% not 95.5%, that was just a typo though, the calculation of 5 false positives expected in 1000 tests is for that.

loobyloo1234 · 05/05/2020 14:42

Come on, OP - post the link so some posters can patronise your dumbness and others of us order

Im not trying to patronise the OP but when this is something so many people want, its best to make sure its legitimate. £260 is a lot of money to most people after all

theDudesmummy · 05/05/2020 14:42

I have read through again now and it seems that the OP has said she does not want to give the name, so I guess that is the answer (the first time I skimmed through looking for the name of the company/website and didn't see it, that is why I asked the question).

AmelieTaylor · 05/05/2020 14:43

@Missteebeee

No they wouldn’t have driven me and they haven’t had it done

So you'd have had to have made your own way there (risk)? Charming.

They want to check if you can pass it to them, but they're not worried about being able to pass it on to you?

Are they generally dreadful to work for?
