Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

I really want an antibody test, but I think the inforgraphics in this document explain well why they might not be a good idea:

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 13:55

Roche and Abbott are head to head to mass produce this

I think it would be more sensible to wait for the nhs ones to become widely available.

ItsAllForYou · 05/05/2020 13:58

Not read the full thread so apologies if a ready been asked. How long until you get the results and is it a throat swab

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 13:58

Don't forget Notanother that that article is 4 days before a reliable test was released

The science is moving fast ..

ItsAllForYou · 05/05/2020 13:58

If I had the money I would be very tempted to buy one

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 13:58

No, finger prick blood test to see if you've HAD the virus (not for people who have it)

Results in 2 days

What difference will it make to your life, Laurie? And did you really pay someone £50 to take something to the post office?

Deux · 05/05/2020 14:02

Here’s a link to Pharma Times about the Abbott test

notapizzaeater · 05/05/2020 14:02

We’d love to know as well, I’d be happy To pay for peace of mind.

imsooverthisdrama · 05/05/2020 14:03

I'd take the test if it was available but not pay .
I'm sure I've had earlier than was said in the UK Jan/feb .
Interested to know the results .

MarshaBradyo · 05/05/2020 14:03

suggestionsplease1 · 05/05/2020 14:03

Aw, my Eufy is brilliant, I think you made the wrong choice!!

Alsohuman · 05/05/2020 14:03

Words fail me.

Deux · 05/05/2020 14:04

Anyone wanting to find out how to access a private test just google something like ‘private covid19 test + Abbott labs’.

HoldMyLobster · 05/05/2020 14:04

I considered getting the test - in the US doctors are offering this one.

I decided to wait until they're being run as a larger research project so the data is of wider use.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/05/2020 14:05

It says in the Times today about the antibody tests

The government has previously expressed hopes for “immunity certificates” that could free people from restrictions if they posed no risk to others or themselves, and bought 3.5 million home finger-prick antibody testing kits. However, none of the tests proved accurate enough....

The Swiss pharmaceutical company Roche won approval yesterday for use in the UK of a highly accurate lab-based antibody test Mr Hancock said: “We’re in discussions with them about a very large scale rollout of antibody testing, as well as with some others who may be able to bring this forward, but there’s been false hope before on antibody testing. And so we’ll make announcements when we’re absolutely ready.”

Might it be worth waiting for this one instead?

AgathaX · 05/05/2020 14:05

I'll be interested to see your results. I may have had it a few weeks ago. Still got after effects now from time to time. I'd very much like to know if that was it or not.

BoxOfShapes · 05/05/2020 14:06

Not mad at all OP! If you can afford it then it’s an immensely useful thing to do, and if it will help you re:anxiety levels to know either way now, absolutely go for it. If the capacity and funds were there, we’d all be being offered them.

I think people are mixing up this type of lab-based antibody test with the 10-minute-result ones. Not surprising as the whole thing is a a minefield and not well explained in the media.

Make sure you clean your finger thoroughly before doing the test, and follow all the instructions as best you can to avoid sample contamination.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 05/05/2020 14:06

I'll get a test when Chris Whitty tells me to and gives chapter and verse and where/who.

I trust only the Whitster.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 14:06

No Hollow - he's biking it back to the lab itself Grin

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 05/05/2020 14:07

Haha Cadburys I know what you mean

MarshaBradyo · 05/05/2020 14:08

As in I concur
