Time to get real people

Ok I think it's time to get a grip on reality!

Coronavirus is pretty nasty but it isn't apocalypse now time. Most of us are going to get it at some point and we will be just fine. So will our families and friends.
The UK cannot stay locked down for much longer without producing a national disaster that will reverberate for decades. So - you will be going back to work, your kids will be going back to school. Wash your hands well and enjoy your lives.
I'm just so sick of the posts prophesying carnage and really enjoying competitive isolation. For most people living like this is borderline harmful. For some it is already actively harmful.

We have to come out from under the bed. Wear a mask, wear gloves if you like but be prepared to live a normal if socially distanced life.

All epidemics burn themselves out eventually. We are much better placed to treat and protect the vulnerable then ever before. At some point soon we have to just get on with it.

Brilliant, why hasn’t anyone thought of that before. Well done OP, you have saved us all from ourselves.

Why not reward yourself with a massive biscuit.

Who put you in charge of the country's thoughts and feelings?

RigaBalsam · 03/05/2020 15:46

Bravo! 👏🏽

SpyApp · 03/05/2020 15:46

Wow! A saviour cometh! Thank goodness for you and your insight.

Greenbutterlfy566 · 03/05/2020 15:47
Halo
SpyApp · 03/05/2020 15:47

Conversely, it's a little early in the day to be that hammered.

Kingjarvis · 03/05/2020 15:48

Well said

WorraLiberty · 03/05/2020 15:50

I feel like I've just listened to the Queen's speech.

bethg21 · 03/05/2020 15:51

I agree with you 💯 👍

Arewehere · 03/05/2020 15:52

Ah erm, now? Do we start now?

cookingmywaythroughlockdown · 03/05/2020 15:53

Cos inducing financial catastrophe, widespread educational neglect and an epidemic of poor mental health is a good idea? Yes I'm really dim Hmm

You do realise that bleating about wanting months of lockdown is a total middle class luxury?

And that the government don't actually have a magic money tree to keep you indefinitely.

Lockdown should be scaled back. It probably won't be because Boris is in charge and he's never yet met a situation he can't fuck up.....

OP posts:
ChaToilLeam · 03/05/2020 15:53

Have a Biscuit. I washed my hands so it’s okay.

imsooverthisdrama · 03/05/2020 15:53

Oh op you should know you can't be optimistic. You must sit in a dark cupboard every day eating dust .
Do not think about looking outside never mind going out and this may be over July 2022 but then the economy will collapse. but as long as we are alive, I suspect mentally most have already lost it .

FabulouslyElegantTits · 03/05/2020 15:54

To be fair OP, your title is incredibly pompous and patronising. I was preparing to disagree with you before I even read your opening post! 🤣

My2centsare · 03/05/2020 15:55

Agree. The death toll is grossly inflated anyway due to the way they record COVID death and does not justify the response. Also, there's no proof that social isolation even works.
This situation had proved how stupid and naive the general population is.

Bagelsandbrie · 03/05/2020 15:55

Gosh if it’s not that dangerous and the majority of people don’t need to worry what on Earth was half the planet doing imposing stricter lockdowns than us....? We should have just had a massive old style chicken pox “coronavirus” party and got it over with.

Biscuit
savehalloween · 03/05/2020 15:56

Completely agree. Mumsnet is like a world of its own, where trends emerge and hysteria spreads. Totally different outlook to anyone I know in real life.

Prepping, wanting to stay in lockdown until there's a vaccine and all the competitiveness is done from a place of privilege with little thought to those in different situations.

None of us know for sure what the government's plan is, but it's far healthier to be optimistic and look forward, than to obsess and spread fear.

savehalloween · 03/05/2020 15:57

Bagelsandbrie trying to prevent their health systems being put under unmanageable pressure, same as us.

Thighmageddon · 03/05/2020 15:57

Lockdown should be scaled back.

And it will be in a controlled manner.

Calling people 'bleaters' when they have genuine fear isn't kind or going to help though is it?

Now do run along and stop bleating about the middle class and current PM.

CrocodileFondue · 03/05/2020 15:58

We are in the category who won't be ok if we catch it... do we just accept death then just because you are sick of lockdown?

I guess wiping out my family and others would go some way towards freeing up more houses for all you healthy people so maybe...? 🤷🏻‍♀️

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 03/05/2020 15:58

Op you should know better

This is mumsnet, most on here are batshit hiding from this bad virus and they are going to struggle massively with anxiety when this lockdown is relaxed. Already we have threads with people looking for reasons not to go back to work. People saying they won’t be sending dc back to school until a vaccine is here! This place is mental

ClientQ · 03/05/2020 15:58

Great. I'll chuck my shielding letter in the bin and get straight back to my job that isn't open ... oh

Pinkpercy · 03/05/2020 15:58

Finally, a voice of reason on here OP. It’s alright for people locked down with houses, gardens and their loved ones. I’ve barely seen a sole in 6 weeks, miss my family and boyfriend terribly.
I’m very lucky I’m wfh but so many things playing havoc with my mental health.
We need hope. Lockdown cannot last for many more months. This virus isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, we have to learn to function as best we can alongside it

You are Jair Bolsonaro and I claim my five pounds.
