To not know anyone who has CV

At a team Zoom meeting my boss said surely we all know someone who has had the virus.

I was the only one to shake my head!

I didn't know anyone who had it until last week. Now 4 people (1 of them has sadly passed away, in her late 70s and had low immunity) in my small town have it.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 01/05/2020 08:20

I know one person who had it and died. He was in his 70s with health conditions.

A family member in her 30s has had it (confirmed) and recovered fine. My mum age 51 had suspected coronavirus although she hasn't been tested. She's still struggling with fatigue 4 weeks on but she's recovering slowly.

Umnoway · 01/05/2020 08:22

Not sure what your point is really. Maybe you don’t know many people.

NameChange84 · 01/05/2020 08:24

I know 23 people at the moment, the majority of those being tested and confirmed. One died. 6 of them seriously ill and needing hospitalised.

PotteryLottery · 01/05/2020 08:24

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, I just felt like a muppet on my work Zoom call!

In fact, I'm all for journalists holding our politicians to account at daily briefing, whereas I've heard others say they don't like the questions as "what more could the gov have done?"

If anything, I've read about people without CV on death certificate so numbers are higher. But I personally don't know anyone first hand.

And I'm truly sorry for those of you that have experienced loss or suffering, if this thread in AIBU has upset you.

Southwest, don't know anyone that's had it and neither does anyone I know, know anyone.

HaveAtEm · 01/05/2020 08:31

I don't know anyone personally (fortunately!), no. I have friends and colleagues who do though. I consider myself lucky.

Jojobar · 01/05/2020 08:31

I know of a couple of people who probably have it, or have had it, but they are in a completely different part of the country.

I work with approx 400 people (aged anywhere between early 20s and late 60s), we are all WFH currently. None of them have reported any symptoms, however 1 of them has had a member of their extended family who is currently receiving hospital treatment.

User202004 · 01/05/2020 08:31

@PotteryLottery OP I know what you mean, it feels strange to be witnessing a global pandemic of a disease that is affecting and killing tens of thousands of people and turning out how lives upside down but to not yet know one person who's had it. It's not about thinking it's a lie or gloating, it's merely acknowledging that it's a bit odd, I'm in the same position, as for the passive aggressive "you obviously don't know many people" really?! Grow up.

HaveAtEm · 01/05/2020 08:33

For context..the 'friends and colleagues' haven't had COVID, they say they know people who have had it...so it's fairly 'far removed' from my circle I think. 🤞

@Umnoway what a nasty comment!

worldsworststepfordwife · 01/05/2020 08:42

I know what you mean OP I wish I could speak to a load of tested positive people and ask them so how do you think you got it? so I can understand it better

Is it all key workers that are getting it, what was there PPE situation?

I just don’t see how they’ll get people back in work with giving them more info

AJPTaylor · 01/05/2020 08:46

I am early 50s. 4 Of my friends have lost parents to it in the last 2 weeks.

britnay · 01/05/2020 08:48

2 of our work team of 8 people have had it. I know 3 people who have died from it.

Bagelsandbrie · 01/05/2020 08:52

I think a lot of people won’t tell people they’ve had it. I have had it and haven’t told anyone in real life. I haven’t needed to as I haven’t gone anywhere and I can’t be dealing with people either treating me like a leper or going the other way and fawning all over me. So I just haven’t told anyone. This was weeks ago now, just as we went into lockdown.

I think everyone probably knows someone who has had it, they probably just don’t know that they do either because that person has been a silent carrier or because - like me- they haven’t told anyone.

HRH2020 · 01/05/2020 09:06

I'm in London and work in GPs surgeries (non medical).
In our team of 9, 5 of us had symptoms
The GPs, 8 of them went down with it in a week
2 friends
My son
His babysitter
My next door neighbour

Elderly relative in Wales died of it.

All seems to have passed now though

LemonTT · 01/05/2020 09:09

The journalists are not holding the government to account. The journalists are showing their medical and scientific limitations by asking repetitive questions that are already answered and which are often just dumb. Like many people I dislike their gotcha nonsense.

The question about key workers not being able to access testing because they were at work was cringeworthy. But it is typical.

Inkpaperstars · 01/05/2020 09:19

God yes, that was bad. Also bad that the politician (Raab?) didn't even pick up on it! Jenny Harries had to add the point.

ButterbuttSquash · 01/05/2020 09:21

South east coast. Don’t know anyone. The amount of cases is relatively low here anyway. A lot of friends living in Surrey areas and none of them have had it. Only case I personally know of is friend of a friends elderly father who died after contracting it in hospital.

Egghead68 · 01/05/2020 09:24

Imnoturigeller the official statistics are way under reporting (compared to the ONS excess death figures).

Blobbyweeble · 01/05/2020 09:24

I’m in Surrey and DH has it, tested positive last week. I probably had it the week before but testing wasn’t available then. I know loads of people who have tested positive recently.

walkingchuckydoll · 01/05/2020 09:28

I know 9 and 3 are on ventilators. I do live in a hot spot though.
