At a team Zoom meeting my boss said surely we all know someone who has had the virus.

I was the only one to shake my head!

All tested positive for it

lakeswimmer · 30/04/2020 22:47

You’re lucky! We’re in rural Lakes and it’s everywhere, had friends in ICU - one just out and one still there - one friend who’s died and others in the village who’ve died too. About 20 cases in our valley/hamlet and taking weeks to shift it

I'm also in rural Lakes and only know of one person who's had it and they live near Manchester. They were in hospital but have recovered.

Tootletum · 30/04/2020 22:49

I don't know anyone either. Home counties as well, which I thought was badly affected.

BrandyandBabycham · 30/04/2020 22:49

A few people I know suspect they have had it, including my DB & DSIL, and a work colleague definitely got it but luckily not too badly. Feeling very upset today as an old family friend is in intensive care with it & DF heard from his wife that it’s not looking good. Trying to stay positive though as I have read many stories where people have defied the odds.

SunshineOverStress · 30/04/2020 22:50

A man who I work with has died from it (he was in his 60s and relatively fit!) also my friends stepdad has tested positive for it as he works in a care home, he’s on day 8 and said it feels like a bad head cold?!

PotteryLottery · 30/04/2020 22:50

Before and during Feb half term I knew people with heavy colds but no cough or fever.

I don't know anybody who has had it.. I'm in West Wales.

Khione · 30/04/2020 22:51

I'm in my 60s. I have 4 brothers + 1bil in their 70s, London, Bristol, Swindon, North Wales and Melbourne. 1 sister (62) Bristol and 4 sils in 70s, again London, Swindon, North Wales and Melbourne. We all have adult kids (and there are some grandkids). None of us either have or know anyone personally who has it.

It seems to make sense that if you know someone, then you are more likely to know more. There will be clusters as well as large numbers in some areas.

Wannakisstheteacher · 30/04/2020 22:52

I've had it. There were times when I didn't think I'd make it. Today on Facebook I saw someone saying anyone who caught it were entirely to blame as they were too stupid to follow social distancing. It's starting to feel that as people get more frustrated with being in lock down they are starting to be annoyed with people for the inconvenience of you being ill.

Snaga · 30/04/2020 22:53

I think a colleague in Scotland (I'm in Wales) has had it...she was certainly symptomatic and rather ill but not hospitalised so wasn't tested. Otherwise I don't know of anyone who's been symptomatic or worse. Considering I live in a city I think this is pretty unusual but feel grateful that I haven't yet had to face up to the possibility of losing someone I care about.

Riverviews · 30/04/2020 22:54

I know two people in Berkshire, one in Madrid and sadly several who have died (relatives of friends)

x2boys · 30/04/2020 22:55

An old friend who.I have lost contact with her dad died of it he was 80 but healthy but caught it in hospital ,many people won't be badly affected but some will.

Northernsoullover · 30/04/2020 22:57

I know a few who think they have had it and two who definitely have it. I'm just outside Cardiff too.

bridgetreilly · 30/04/2020 22:58

UK has a higher population and a significantly higher population density than Italy. It would be shocking if we had a lower death toll than Italy.

Lifeisgenerallyfun · 30/04/2020 22:59

I know several people who have had it , myself included (suspected) two people hospitalised one of whom died (in early 50s no underlying conditions) it’s bloody awful so think yourself lucky for the time being

justasking111 · 30/04/2020 22:59

Only know of two families in London who have had it friends of sons. Where we live I neither know or have heard of anyone with it. We have had very few cases here.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 30/04/2020 22:59

I know 6 people who've had it. 4 of them have died. All of them under 65

Imnoturigeller · 30/04/2020 23:01

Bloody hell sugarplumfairy. That’s awful.

Siameasy · 30/04/2020 23:03

I’m Home Counties and still going out to work. Someone at my work died and another was hospitalised so both confirmed but I didn’t know either of them personally just happen to have the same employer.
Lots of people I know have “got it” according to them but it’s pretty meaningless as I had a chest infection last year that would’ve been classed as “it” if I had it now

middleager · 30/04/2020 23:03

You can check the cases in each area (and the number per 100,000 here). Sunderland tops the list for cases per 100k.

I'm in the heart of the West Midlands with high rates yet I don't know anybody who's had it, confirmed or unconfirmed.

lljkk · 30/04/2020 23:07

I don't know anyone, either. What is it, 3% of the population have had it? Very few, really. Nobody on my facebook mentioned they had relevant symptoms, even. Don't think anyone in our household (5 people) knows anyone who has tested positive.

I know 2 people who know someone who died from it, though. DH also knows someone who knows someone...

Patterjack · 30/04/2020 23:07

I know two people in 'real life' who have had it, both nurses on a covid ward. Both recovered fully and back at work. Haven't heard of any cases in the community, doesn't mean there aren't any of course.

BlessYourCottonSocks · 30/04/2020 23:08

I live in a very rural county. I know four people who have tested positive, two more who've been hospitalised with it and I know of one person who has died. (Dm of friend)

gandalf456 · 30/04/2020 23:08

I know one person who has died. He was 65.

It's been going round at work with about 4 people having had symptoms. Luckily, no deaths. That would have been awful

Siameasy · 30/04/2020 23:08

I’m assuming fewer cases per 100k is due to living in a less densely populated area..we are semi rural
