At a team Zoom meeting my boss said surely we all know someone who has had the virus.

I was the only one to shake my head!

I'm amazed at the number of people some of you know who have died! Sad

I think perhaps I just don't know that many people.

Serin · 01/05/2020 00:01

There have been around 20 cases in my village including a young fit 20 odd year old who sadly died.
Also have seen several colleagues and patients with confirmed cases, and 2 of my cousins contracted it in New York prior to lock down.
It's out there all right. Sad

YinMnBlue · 01/05/2020 00:04

DH had it, 1 friend and 2 co-workers have lost relatives to it. Friend and neighbour had it, his mate who I know has had it.

London.

Jenasaurus · 01/05/2020 00:08

I did wonder if it was going to be a bit like HIV where we were told we would all know someone that had it by x amount of years and I still dont know anyone with HIV.

Sadly that isnt the case with Covid and my family have all been affected by it. I work for an Ambulance Trust and have 2 colleagues in ITU, my DD lost her 21 year old Uni friend to it, my DS has 2 close friends with it and his fiance has her best friend (both nurses) tested positive. My ex BF rang me upset as his boss died from it early on in the lockdown. I think its because of where we work though, NHS, and Education so it was more probable that we would know of people with it. I wish I didnt.

Babyroobs · 01/05/2020 00:16

I know about eight or nine ex colleagues who have had it all Nurses. Some have been really very ill.

Littlepond · 01/05/2020 00:18

I’ve not had a test. I think I had it but there is no way to be sure. I didn’t shout about it. I didn’t see people or have to cancel anything due to illness cos we were all in lockdown. I don’t know if I had “it” but if I did then no one knows I did - no one even knows I was ill. Why would they?

loubieloo4 · 01/05/2020 00:20

I know lots of people (colleagues) that have had it and a couple who have sadly died 😢 I'm a nurse though so not surprising. Thankfully I'm taking a while off at the moment as dh (39) has stage 4 terminal bowel cancer.

loubieloo4 · 01/05/2020 00:21

That's sounds like I'm pleased to be off, I'm not iygwim

Popc0rn · 01/05/2020 00:22

I know of five people who have died.
Four people who have tested positive.
20 odd people who sound like they had it but couldn't get tested as testing wasn't available at that time.

All work in the same hospital.

CochonDinde · 01/05/2020 00:23

My 40 year old friend died of it. Alone in his house so wasn't even counted in the statistics. But well done you, yay Hmm

Daffodil101 · 01/05/2020 00:24

Everyone in the office I used to work with had it (NHS). Most patients and one nurse died.

notangelinajolie · 01/05/2020 00:30

I don't know anyone who has had the test but I do know lots of people who have been unwell including me.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 01/05/2020 00:33

A friend of mine has just come home from hospital after having it. She has an underlying condition too so it's really good she's on the mend :)

SunShine682 · 01/05/2020 00:37

I don’t know anyone with it or anyone that’s had it and I don’t even know anyone that knows anyone that’s died from it.

Rosebel · 01/05/2020 00:42

My husband's work colleagues had it quite badly and was touch and go for a while but is fine now. The only person I know who died is my SILs dad.
I know we've been incredibly lucky, just hope it stays that way.

paxillin · 01/05/2020 00:43

I posted in AIBU for traffic

Did you? How odd, your thread is called "AIBU...To not know anyone who has CV"

I propose you posted for froth and perhaps even in the hope of some conspiracy theory. If not, congratulations you got away.

YABU and you are thoughtless for posting this thread. YANBU for not knowing anyone with a virus, that is beyond your control.

wafflyversatile · 01/05/2020 00:49

You probably do know someone with it unless you phone round all you fb friends and extended family and all the parents of kids from school every day to check then you just dont know they have it

enragedpenfold · 01/05/2020 00:50

Two people at work had it. Plus the dh of one of them (Who actually brought it in via travel). Another colleague’s uncle died (different country) and an old colleague (also different country) has been on a ventilator for over two weeks. We live in a very small community and thankfully cases have stayed below 20. An hour down the road in the nearest (Small) city there are still 5-6 people dying every day.

Egghead68 · 01/05/2020 01:03

I know lots of people who have had it and I have it. London. Don’t think anyone I know’s been tested till recently though (they were only testing inpatients till last week-ish).

LemonTT · 01/05/2020 01:11

I think I have done calls and conferences every week with at least one person who has had it, confirmed cases. Geography and occupation probably play a factor in that. And yes I know of deaths too but those are third party so far.

Willyoujustbequiet · 01/05/2020 01:44

I know loads. Unfortunately a 29 year old nurse amongst them.

Its in my very quiet rural village. In my street.

123Dancewithme · 01/05/2020 01:49

In the south west and don’t know anyone who has had it.

NaNaNaNaNaNaBaNaNa · 01/05/2020 02:33

A colleague died from it after contacting it on holiday in Spain. Male, 50s and fit.
An old family friend died from it - she was elderly and in a care home with dementia.
A neighbour of my in-laws died in his wife's arms at home after testing positive.

Don't yet know anyone who's actually had a positive test and not died. Refuse to entertain the idea that any bad cold or flu "must be it" because that just leads to a false sense of security. Flu has been bad this year, we knew that long before covid-19 was around.

Reginabambina · 01/05/2020 02:36

I only know one person with a confirmed case (friend of a friend). I know lots of people who suspect they’ve had it (myself included) but I doubt we’ll ever know unless we’re offered antibody testing. Even then we won’t be able to sure that it was the same illness.

Imnoturigeller · 01/05/2020 08:17

The number of young people on Mentioned here who have died just doesn’t square with the official statistics.
Maybe you all know the same people?!
I’m not being flippant. Truly sorry for your losses but the official figures for under 40s are tiny
