New thread for those having longer symptoms of Covid.

OP posts:
OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/04/2020 22:37

I've had some sort of virus (possibly the virus) since March. Sore throat, coughing, having to use steamer, tight band around chest feeling.

Mostly gone, but I still have a sore throat which just won't go away. Low down and hurts to swallow. How do you shift it? Any ideas welcome. Doctor thought it might be strep throat as a side effect and suggested antibiotics have they have not shifted it.

TheDrsWife46 · 29/04/2020 22:38

@Gunner30 wow ive got about ten days ish and hopefully i’ll be where you are as im deffo improving all the time.

@AvocadoPrime my worst days were 6-12 and just as you are desperate I was having conversations with my DH that he doesnt need to feel bad about me having no funeral, just get me cremated and scatter me later no fuss, just focus on the kids. Its THOSE thoughts and converations that will give me anxiety/ptsd going forwards. Day 13 is shitter than shit and if you cant get out if bed, dont. Do whatever you can to push through to the next day and the next. You will feel so so depleted and tearful but honestly get through each hour. And if you cant manage call for help. Do not listen to anybody telling you “you dont wanna be in the hospital!! Thats the last thing you want!”

If you need it. Then you go. Look at Roth test etc, respiration rate and look for trends in how you are rather than dramatic dips as many of us are dip dip dipping in and out for weeks.

Xx

faithinnature1 · 29/04/2020 22:39

@Moodgie thanks

Gunner30 · 29/04/2020 22:42

@Tangledyarn and @Moodgie, i think mine is post viral too, so was interested if your doctors thought the same, so thanks for coming back. Agree that it is really frustrating, along with all the other symptoms and I keep losing my voice too. Some might say that is a good thing though :-) Have a good night.

JackJackIncredible · 29/04/2020 22:42

hi everyone. :) day 48 and doing well....there’s hope! I have a rare lung disease and I assumed getting covid (well presumed covid based on X-ray) would mean I would die. They made a big deal of it but actually, it was manageable, although I had a bad week or so. I only needed a night in hospital.
I am no longer rattling which I assume means I’ve shifted the fluid they saw on X-ray. I’ve still got pleurisy and mild burning sensation when I breathe but I’m back to my usual hours at work. I am more fatigued than usual but it’s miles better than it was.

Will reply properly tomorrow, need sleep.
Take care everyone x

TheDrsWife46 · 29/04/2020 22:43

@faithinnature1 you are far from alone. Me I called my GP specifically to say can you talk to me about post viral fatigue/chronic fatigue syndrome and talk to me as a fatigue patient rather than “covid” i got much much further and the GP wasnt as fast to shut me down. Ive seen far more articles coming out about long recoveries now so Im hoping at some stage the government acknowledges that hundreds or thousands have people have been relinquished as breathing organisms floundering at home.

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 22:51

Who was it that did the survey? I recall you saying that you planned to do another, is it possible for you to add if we have had antibiotics or not? If we feel better yet if so what day are you too? I wonder if antibiotics have prolonged it or if it's just that our symptoms very at different times

Linus1972 · 29/04/2020 22:56

Thanks @Gunner30 for tagging me, and that's great that you're making improvements. (And it's nice to see old and new faces on this thread waves). I think my chest pains may be costocondritis too and I'm on Day 40, so I'm hoping mine will start to improve too. Have been using Voltarol gel on the sore areas for the past couple of days and I think it's made a bit of a difference.

Last few nights I've had stomach upset symptoms. My stomach feels like there's bubbles in it and I keep burping. Have had the runs a couple of times in the last two days too, though tonight things have been relatively calm (might be due to taking a probiotic this morning). I've had a headache for the last hour though. If it's not one thing it's something else.

I'd been concerned about chest pains and on Friday my GP said he'd arrange for me to see a "Rapid Response Chest Pain Clinic". So much for a rapid response - someone finally phoned this afternoon to say they're not doing face to face consultations at the moment. After she'd heard about my symptoms she said it was impossible to diagnose me and I'd have to have a coronary angiogram. They normally take 6 weeks but at the moment they're not booking any so it would be "several months". I'm speaking to my GP again this Friday. Have been monitoring my blood pressure for the past couple of weeks and it's on average been 143/95. I'll have to make a decision about whether to go on medication for it as it's not coming down. I suspect if/when I clear the virus it will go down, but I don't know when that will be.

Moodgie · 29/04/2020 22:57

@OverTheRainbowLiesOz I have no idea how to shift the sore throat. I have been gargling with salt water but it is still there.

LordOftheRingz · 29/04/2020 22:57

Hi, New to MN,

My partner had at the end of Jan the worst 'flu', in bed for 2 weeks, first week fever, chills, cough, no snot. Did not eat for a week, had two full weeks off work (unheard of), then could not breathe for weeks, was under the GP via phone call. Then has had sore throat ever since, refux type chest pain. I also had weeks and weeks of reflux like chest pain, ended up in walk in on ecg machine, no temp, small cough, still struggling with odd body issues, pains, etc, still have throat issues months later. Child mildly affected. Could this be Covid, partner is on BP meds?

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/04/2020 23:00

I've tried the salt water gargling too. Plus -
throat sweets
Hot lemon and honey drinks
Vitamins
Antibiotics

The low down sore throat just goes on and on, receding slightly to give you hope and then wham, coming back again

Moodgie · 29/04/2020 23:03

@Overtherainbowliesoz. Yep, same thing. It was my first symptom which went away after a few days and now weeks later it has been back for about a week.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/04/2020 23:06

Same. My first symptom, went away to be replaced by cough, tight chest etc, the came back at the end.

I'm starting to feel like I will have the wretched thing forever.

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/04/2020 23:08

The tail end sore throat has now been going on for four weeks - all through April (had main symptoms back in March).

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 23:18

@LordOftheRingz it's quite hard to tell what we have comes in waves, we've been sick then feeling a bit better then sick then well it's been a long drawn out cycle. I was very ill over Christmas with a really bad cough so bad my Bladder control went out the window I couldn't breathe was given steroid tablets and still had and awful cough for weeks after and then i caught this on the 8th of March and am still ill.

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 23:19

Those with a sore throat please try gavisgon it does help

OverTheRainbowLiesOz · 29/04/2020 23:24

Thank you. I haven't tried Gaviscon. Will give it a go.

LordOftheRingz · 29/04/2020 23:26

@pinkoneblueone.

Thanks for reply, also had bladder issues, the throat has been the worst, like a lump moving around, and the feeling of food stuck in the windpipe, ive been mainlining gavisgon for months. Husbands sister is currently recovering slowly and has had similar symptoms. If we have had it, my partner has had a bad dose, A+ blood type, high BP and over 50, but fit and active otherwise healthy.

Moodgie · 29/04/2020 23:28

@pinkoneblueone Thank you. Will try tomorrow morning.

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 23:35

@LordOftheRingz since January though 😳 it may well be how are you all now?

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 23:37

@moodgie I typically take mine at night at take the black jakemans in the s day time with hot honey and lemon with ginger usually two cups one after the other recycling the lemon and ginger and adding more honey on the second cup.

LordOftheRingz · 29/04/2020 23:41

@pinkoneblueone

Partner is breathing ok, still has throat issues, has had GI issues, was has been WFH since it happened and due to lock down. Just feels not right, but probs 75% well. Im still struggling with the throat on and off, joint pains, and for some reason my periods have been from hell during this. I have not had a bad gastric attack for a month, but have cut most foods out, lost lots of weight. Just feel like im falling to bits, but thankful the breathing issue has not been much of a problem. Tired and lethargic most days.

Purplegorilla · 29/04/2020 23:43

I'm so glad I found this, I've been wondering why the heck I've had terrible reflux recently..ive recently got over the virus after 4 long weeks, well I thought I'd got over it but clearly I ahvent.
I have the sore throat still and palpitations but hadn't put 2 and 2 together that it may be linked with the virus.
I do hope none of us have lasting damage

Egghead68 · 29/04/2020 23:45

Had you been to any high risk areas or in contact with any known cases @LordoftheRingz? Supposedly there wasn’t community transmission in the U.K. that far back if I remember correctly. Covid or not it sounds horrible though Flowers

whynotchange · 29/04/2020 23:49

I've been lurking since the start of these threads, and had symptoms since late feb, I need to ask about bladders.

I've followed the most weird and wonderful symptoms from the burning, the throat, two 999 admissions, 4 days out for the count on morphine - Writing the notes to my loved ones on day 14.. changing my Facebook password so it was easy to update on my passing, that day I honestly though was my last.

I actually tested negative for the virus early March.

The most recent medication in April I've needed is for GERD two whole weeks of burning, gurgling, burping it's been a joy, it's been so painful, and lack of sleep, trying to sleep when your chest is on fire and your stomach has a life of it's own!.

And now I find myself asking you all, I've had throughout this whole time a swollen bladder and UTI symptoms but without the burning, I've taken antibiotics and have developed a water bottle habit, I've had days needing to wee lots other when I can't wee, back pains and spikes in temperature.

Has anyone else developed this? I'm off to the GP with yet more wee to test, which will no doubt come back negative.
