Hi all! Thanks @SimpleKindofLife for the new thread

Sorry, there are loads to tag now, I haven't got everyone.

OP posts:
ofwarren · 29/04/2020 13:23

I haven't posted for a while. I had symptoms well over a month ago now.
I still can't sleep on my back and nothing is touching the acid reflux.
I noticed today that I can't actually hold my breath for more than 5 seconds. Is this the same for anyone else?
I get the dizzy, going to faint type head rush straight away!

KatySun · 29/04/2020 13:24

I posted on the last thread before realising it was closed so copying here in relation to myocarditis.

My chest pain is not anxiety or panic attacks starrynightsabove as I have had that previously.

I would also be curious about the timeframe for recovery longshot

The problem is that it is so difficult to get any kind of medical attention and tests so if there are possible complications, it makes sense to follow the advice (rest, rest, rest).

I am signed off for two more weeks and I plan to just concentrate on resting and looking after the children (single parent). I suppose if I am not improving after that, I will be back on the phone asking to specifically rule out myocarditis because the doctor on Monday was ruling out angina.

Yay thank you @simplekindoflife !

Rosesofeyam · 29/04/2020 13:33

Found you. Thanks Smile

Day 42
Heart problems - My GP has mentioned heart issues and told me to wait another week to see if things settle down as most likely post viral. If not they will do an ECG/refer me.
I'm having chest,shoulder,jaw pain,fast heartbeat,palpitations.

fedupofbed · 29/04/2020 13:41

Also tagging @Moominmamma33 @Tangledyarn and @Countingsheeps

fedupofbed · 29/04/2020 13:45

Just to reiterate my thanks to @longshot from the last thread. It's great to learn from others' experiences - empowering not terrifying. I've no history of anxiety and fed up of being pigeonholed.

Dorual · 29/04/2020 13:49

Gastritis and reflux can cause heart area pains. I once had gastritis so bad it affected the nerves going down my left arm. So could be something in that. And that doesn't show up on blood tests.

Would myocarditis present with elevated hs-crp inflammation levels I wonder.

Dorual · 29/04/2020 13:50

I'm not saying it isn't myocarditis by the way, just musing. Certainly feels like my heart is affected sometimes.

fedupofbed · 29/04/2020 14:08

Yes I've wondered the connection too @dorual

I've had gastric symptoms and reflux throughout and recently started taking omeprazole. There's always a lot of gurgling and bubbling from my abdomen all the way up to my chest. But the raised fluctuating heart rate and palpitations are relatively new.

ofwarren · 29/04/2020 14:09

I've just ordered some bloods from medichecks. Used them before for thyroid tests.
There is 25% off at the moment so I got thyroid along with a "health check" that has full blood count, CRP, cholesterol, B12 and D.
I ordered a blood pressure monitor too.
I do think that my symptoms are still possibly this awful acid but I just want to rule anything else out.

longshot · 29/04/2020 14:11

Hi again,

Yes the consultant I spoke to said normally it would show in an ecg (it didn’t for me in hospital last week) but he also said that it doesn’t always show on a short ECG if it’s mild (reassuring). The MRI detects a minor case that is often missed on echocardiogram and via bloods. Basically his suggestion was that the hospital would have picked up a serious / severe case but he thought I likely have it mildly because all of my symptoms and history fit.

Sorry @Starrynightsabove I do get what you are saying. I am not trying to scare anyone at all but In this case I’ll take the cardiac consultants advice who is a specialist in this area with 25 years experience over yours or the registrar I saw for 10 mins last week. I should add the consultant had all my medical data and report from GP etc it wasn’t just a ‘phone call chat’. He’s not told me ‘I have a heart problem and to be scared’ he’s told me to rest and take ibuprofen and see if it goes with time (which it should it it’s mild) or opt for further investigation if I want to in time. I had thought this could be helpful to others which is why I have shared it and it appears most people on here thinks it has been.

We are all in a difficult place and in no way do I want to make that worse for people. It’s my experience not everyone else’s.

Re the CRP levels this is a really good question, I think again it might be down to how much inflammation there is present (if it’s mild perhaps not a lot). He’s sending a report over later so I’ll see if it is mentioned.

Moodgie · 29/04/2020 14:12

Thank you for tagging me. Absolutely exhausted today. Lying on the sofa and even holding my phone and typing feels like an effort. Anyone else?

longshot · 29/04/2020 14:13

@Dorual that is interesting, I didn’t know reflux could cause heart pain, can it cause palpitations? I have never had reflux really so don’t know what I would be looking for! I really hope it is reflux but I don’t think it wouldn’t explain the racing heart pounding feeling I’ve had or certainly my DH gets if he’s doing cardio (which he’s now stopped for a bit!)

KatySun · 29/04/2020 14:17

I have found that very helpful longshot thank you, also the time frame your doctor gave you rosesofeyam.

I woke up at about 5am with heartburn, which is a different type of pain in my experience. The doctor I saw on Monday did not think gastric issues in my case. I am just going to rest and wait.

UncomfortableBadger · 29/04/2020 14:20

I think I posted this over on the Lungs thread already but this may be of interest to those amongst us who are suffering with heartburn type symptoms...

Egghead68 · 29/04/2020 14:22

Thanks for the new thread but so depressing to be on it (day 39/40). Really worried about myocarditis now.

longshot · 29/04/2020 14:23

Oh sorry I forgot to say, the consultant said he can’t say how quickly it will resolve, sadly that I think depends on the individual. I wish he has say ‘you’ll be over it in a week’!!

In all my other symptoms I do feel much improved. I know it’s day 50 so hardly jumping for joy at this but at least I am able to potter around all day and not feel totally ruined any more. For me it’s mainly just the chest pain, palpitations and then intermittent fatigue now. I never had any gastric issues except at the very start.

longshot · 29/04/2020 14:26

@Egghead68 just seen your post on the last thread, I think if you’re still getting pains yes it may be wise just to take it easy. It’s easy for me to do that as I don’t feel up to much other than a stroll yet! DH is more ‘active’ as he hasn’t got the post viral fatigue but not doing cardio just in case until he stops getting the twinges and sort of ‘heavy’ feeling as he puts it.

Egghead68 · 29/04/2020 14:30

Thanks @Longshot. It is so frustrating but the last thing we need is permanent heart damage. I have found your posts really helpful. Thank you.

Dorual · 29/04/2020 14:38

Gastritis and oesophagitis can cause burning, gnawing, sore feelings. Oesophagus passes right next to the heart so it can be confusing. Oesophagus doesn't have the same acid-resistant lining as the stomach so is easily affected. It can also have spasms. Also a hiatal hernia can cause shortness of breath after large meals and pain in the chest and back.
