Pottering I think you're right. Bastards, and I bet others will follow suit. Would the consumer have a case to still get refunded if FCO Don't Travel advice still stands, do we think?

Agree that if I was a Spaniard and had gone through the pain of a real lockdown, not our poor by comparison attempt, I'd be pretty pissed to have a load of tourists suddenly turn up. And I say this knowing our trip to Berlin this July is not going to happen Sad

Slightly off topic but anyone else never heard of Whizz Air? Sounds like a company thrown together by a donkey off the Apprentice.

Kingcole · 25/04/2020 16:35

No but how do you suppose we can differentiate between the two? If all hotels closed and/or quarantine absolutely fine.

Itisasecret · 25/04/2020 16:35

People still don’t get it. No one will want us. Flights can go anywhere, no good if we aren’t allowed in. Countries have been sounding the bell over this for a while. If they can tentatively open, the UK will be the last allowed one. Too slow to do anything, no control and it shows in our statistics. How selfish and delusional people are, we are the sick man of Europe and they think it would be good news if we can spread it around.

Thighmageddon · 25/04/2020 16:36

I said that to dh earlier when I read it on sky news, he'd never heard of it either.

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 25/04/2020 16:37

Well, as someone who through work, deals with bereaved families every day and have spoken to many people who have lost loved ones through Covid, I can't agree that the 'we're all going to die rhetoric' is boring Hmm
20000+ deaths not including those in care homes and the community, all of whom were someone very important to their families, and you are bored!!

Ffs.

To be honest we’d be happy to fly to Spain to quarantine, then fly back. Not all of us are going for sun, sea and sangria, we’re booked to go and see the IL’s for the first time in 3 years. Happy to fly over, spend 2 weeks quarantined with them spending time with them at their house and fly back! I’m sure it won’t happen (booked for July), but it would be lovely if it did.

Tonemeth · 25/04/2020 16:42

This thread is nuts. I can understand people wanting to see loved ones - I havent seen my sister in months and probably wont till after summer now. But despite that I still have a brain and understand we are no where near jetting off on holiday Hmm

I'm booked for Spain in september and will take the loss. I may still be shielding anyway, but there is absolutely no chance I'm going.

Thighmageddon · 25/04/2020 16:43

Driving I don't think you'd be quarantining WITH your relatives...

Tonemeth · 25/04/2020 16:43

Happy to fly over, spend 2 weeks quarantined with them spending time with them at their house and fly back!

You know that's not how quarantine works, right?

If you can go 3 years without seeing someone another year cant hurt Hmm

m00rfarm · 25/04/2020 16:43

I am in Portugal - we believe that restrictions will be lifted a little md May to start to allow flights, and hotels and other accommodation will be open towards the end of May. June some beaches will be open, and some restaurants will be opened with restrictions (less staff and less clients). Temperatures will be used as an indication of whether people are sick or not. Obviously not infallible, but a better indication than nothing at all. However, everything is subject to change, of course.

Hollyhobbi · 25/04/2020 16:59

My dad caught the Covid 19 virus on a flight home from Spain on 13th March! The fella beside him was coughing all the way over. He definitely didn't catch it at home cause he and my mum have been cocooning since they came back.

notimagain · 25/04/2020 17:05

Can I just check I've got this right - The Wizz Air making this announcement is the same Wizz air that took an axe to jobs a few days ago..right?

www.aerotime.aero/edvinas.andrijevskis/24814-wizz-air-cuts-1000-jobs-amid-coronavirus-pandemic

If I had to book with them I'd be booking with a credit card.....................

chocolatviennois · 25/04/2020 17:12

How can people be allowed to visit family in Spain/Portugal before we are allowed to visit our family in the UK? These flights would appear to break the lockdown rules unless the rules are about to change.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 17:24

I know that’s not how it works, and I know I can go another year without seeing them Smile. I just said it would be nice but I know it won’t happen. So no need to get your knickers in a twist.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 17:25

You can’t say anything on here about something that you would like to happen, with no actual expectation that it will, without all the dementors pouncing on you that you’re insane to even think about it and might as well murder your own granny Smile

BackInTime · 25/04/2020 17:34

Have any of the destination countries confirmed that they are happy to accept visitors from the UK? Will the travel insurers cover people for further disruptions due to COVID as I believe many have removed such cover from their policies? If health services in destination countries are still overstretches do they really want an influx of tourists with all the additional pressure that brings?

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2020 17:37

And how are you planning to get to the airport this end?

Klaudia14 · 25/04/2020 17:37

I'm sticking with what I said.. it's nice to hear something positive in these times. If one airline does it others will follow. It's not all about holidays either, many will have family they will want to see and if other counties allow entry ( which I assume they will have to before a flight takes off) then why not take this as some good news .

Because we hit 20k hospital deaths today?

4forkssake · 25/04/2020 17:41

I'm praying my flights aren't going ahead in August or if they are, we have the option to cancel/reschedule. The country were due to go to has a 14 day quarantine so that'd be fun, plus the thought of spending hours on a cramped plane & things not open. As a PP said, all very well the flights going, but if any of the above is going to happen once you've arrived at your destination but you can't claim your money back cos the flights going then it's not going to be a very good holiday.

Tonemeth · 25/04/2020 17:43

This has been commented on because it simply doesnt make sense driving. Thats all. Even if it's just a wish, it's a stupid one 🤷‍♀️

chocolatviennois · 25/04/2020 17:43

@drivingdownthe101 - I am stating that it is illogical for airlines to be starting up before people can move around this country. Do you agree?

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 17:45

Yes of course I agree. That’s why I said I know it won’t happen, but that it would be nice. We’re allowed to still express a desire for something to happen.
We have no idea whether we’ll be able to see our family in the UK in July. Of course if we can’t, no one would expect to see family in other countries. So I’m not sure what your point is really?

Tonemeth · 25/04/2020 17:46

but if any of the above is going to happen once you've arrived at your destination but you can't claim your money back cos the flights going then it's not going to be a very good holiday.

I think at that point it's better not to go - I'm in that position and my flights are Ryanair so no chance I'll get the money back. I just wont be going. It makes more sense than going and spending more money once there to have a miserable time/be terrified/become ill. I don't buy into sunk cost fallacy, but I do think there is a time when you (not you personally, generally) just have to suck it up and i think this is the time.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/04/2020 17:46

Apologies that my wishes are stupid Tonemeth. I think probably I’m just not as intellectual as you, as I have such stupid desires. Ah well.
