Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

OP posts:
godhelpusall · 22/04/2020 14:51

@SchrodingersKitty sorry to hear your situation. Take care.

Egghead68 · 22/04/2020 14:56

I am sorry to hear this @SchrodingersKitty. Thinking of you and your DH.

@fedupofbed I am really pleased you are feeling a bit better. Long may it last.

Egghead68 · 22/04/2020 14:57

No I haven't tried methadone

@Rosesofeyam Grin

Crayfishforyou · 22/04/2020 15:18

@SchrodingersKitty
I'm so sorry for what you're having to go through, I hope your DH gets his medication OK

baroqueandblue · 22/04/2020 15:31

@SchrodingersKitty

Just devastating. I simply cannot imagine how you must all be feeling today but I'm moved by your plight as a family and am sending warm thoughts your way. One second, one minute, one hour, one day at a time, it's all you can possibly do for now. I hope you'll be able to rely on sources of support even at this awful time of having to keep our distance from others.

Countingsheeps · 22/04/2020 15:41

@godhelpusall thanks, it’s not exactly the result I was expecting, but I guess it is a good thing. Is nice to know my organs etc are still working as they should with all the weird symptoms we all get!

@SchrodingersKitty am so sorry to read your news. I haven’t been on here as long as some, but have been thinking of you. Like others have said I really hope you have good support around you. Xxx

Moodgie · 22/04/2020 15:42

Dr Jarvis on Jeremy Vine was apparently talking about it today, coming in waves. I’m going to try and find it. If anyone has a link, please post.

NordSjoen · 22/04/2020 16:10

@Egghead68 thank you. I am supply so won’t get paid if I don’t work... and can’t be furloughed plus I only started on supply in November so no self employment record as had been a directly employed teacher before that. Single parent with huge mortgage (predating my teaching career!), so I really do have no choice. Last night was awful, I really thought I was going to die and my DS would wake up to find me. Every time I fell asleep I woke gasping as though I had forgotten to breathe. The pain was excruciating and my breathing was so shallow. I propped myself up and fell asleep for about 6 hours and woke this morning feeling as good as I have in a long while. Still pain in the chest and back but energy levels good and have managed some running up and down the playground as well as walking to and from work (30 min each way). Weird weird weird illness with these peaks and troughs. In the midst of it all I have done a couple of 10k runs and three hour long PT sessions over Zoom when I have felt well enough with no real repercussions.

Linus1972 · 22/04/2020 16:13

@Rhona123 I feel similar about dreading going to bed. Day 33 for me. The pain in my osephogus/chest area starts almost as soon as I lie down due to acid reflux symptoms, and even when I get to sleep, I often wake up several times throughout the night in pain with it. I also have a phlegmy feeling in my throat a lot, which makes me cough. I took a sleeping tablet (Nytol over the counter) last night and it helped although I was dully aware that the pain was still there and I felt woozy for 3 hours on getting up. I've started on a second course of antibiotics today as the first lot seemed to be clearing things up but then it came back the day after I stopped them. It seems to be OK for a couple of nights, then it comes back. Have tried Gavascon, am taking antacid tablets and have changed my diet but nothing seem to make it go away. It feels like I've got a burning wound down my throat and it's never going to heal.

WorriesomeDad · 22/04/2020 16:20

@SchrodingersKitty really hope this afternoon’s appointment went as well as it possibly could and you got replacement meds sorted. My thoughts are with the both of you.

OP posts:
SchrodingersKitty · 22/04/2020 16:27

Thanks for your good wishes, everyone. The meds did finally turn up so that's one relief. The neurologist and her colleagues think it probably is lymphoma, but there are more tests they can do for other possibilities, so they will do those. They will discuss him at their team meeting tomorrow and then again with the haematology people, so we hope to hear something more by Friday. Some of the test results will take a couple of weeks to come back, so I think we are probably talking about just steroids for the time being. One helpful thing she was able to say is that the position of the current lesion means it is not the cause of his fainting, so that is a relief. For him, the worst thing is the sense that his grasp of language and reasoning is worse than it was, so I really really hope the steroids do something about that in the short term at least.

Lightsabre · 22/04/2020 16:43

@tootsey, some other posters have been prescribed amytriptiline for neuro symptons. Or diazepam.

thisisme2018 · 22/04/2020 16:52

Hi, I've been keeping an eye on these posts but have really not felt strong enough to write.
I'm on day 30 and having been checked at the hospital last Fri as I had breathing problems, all that seems to have calmed down. I've had an X-ray which was thankfully clear and my vitals are ok.
Over the past three days I've developed pretty bad pains in my legs. It feels like when you are at the gym and a muscle is working too hard and starts shaking. Also have pain in my lower spine around where I had an epidural 12 yrs ago. It is constant and no amount of paracetamol seems to shift it.
The doc called me yesterday and said it's probably post viral. I know a few of you have this feeling, how long will it last for? It's totally debilitating for me. I can hardly walk and homeschooling obvs isn't happening much. I'm
I just feel so bad for my family that I'm stuck up in bed most of the day.

tupperwaretowers · 22/04/2020 16:57

Checking in day 40. Just left with random stabby/twingey chest pains at the moment. Had a course of antibiotics about 3 weeks ago which seemed to help. Hoping this will clear up soon.

godhelpusall · 22/04/2020 17:14

@thisisme2018 sorry to hear this. To be honest? For me by day 40 I felt better although with this thing it's hard to entirely trust that. It's a very gradual process of two steps forward one back which is so dispiriting. But it does get better and it's important to really rest, overdoing it sets you back. Try to look in terms of weeks not days- I'm better than this time last week. And talk to people on here- it really helps!!

Moodgie · 22/04/2020 17:31

I’ve been getting phlegmy since before the weekend (nothing really comes out). I am wondering if it is still the virus, or just a part of the recovery process and maybe I’m getting rid of whatever needs to be cleared out or maybe this is a secondary infection? Anyone any ideas please?

thisisme2018 · 22/04/2020 17:39

Thanks @godhelpusall. Just sometimes feel I can cope with symptoms better than others. It totally comes in waves so I’m taking it as easy as possible with 3 children in the house.

thisisme2018 · 22/04/2020 17:43

@Moodgie I really don’t know sorry but I’m sure the doc would be happy to help you, hopefully put your mind at rest. I hope you feel better soon.

godhelpusall · 22/04/2020 17:45

@thisisme2018 I totally get it. I have two children who have both had it at the sane time. I feel 20 years older than I did six weeks ago

OneDayAtATime123 · 22/04/2020 18:00

I personally have a hard time with SoB when lying on my back, but have learnt lately, that by using a slightly propped pillow and lying on my stomach, I can breathe and sleep better. I think it might have have to do with lung inflammation at the back, that will take time to heal.

OneDayAtATime123 · 22/04/2020 18:03

@Moodgie
I have a congestion feeling too and mild SoB. Have you used steam inhalation ? It seems to loosen mine a tiny bit and ease the symptoms.

alittleprivacy · 22/04/2020 18:10

Today is day 36 for me and I feel awful. Not entirely sure it's all the fault of this illness, I think I have a convergence. I was up 5 times last night drenched in sweat and had to get up, dry off and change. It's something that happens to me around my period, apparently a herald of peri-menopause. I was up 4 times the night before and the night before that I was up with stomach cramps and low temps. So I'm seriously shattered and have a migraine from lack of sleep. My chest feels heavier than it has in about a week and I'm having more trouble breathing than in the last week. My upper back, shoulders and neck are all cramped. While some of it is my right lung, as breathing makes it worse. I think some is muscular from being tense in bed when I'd wake up wet and cold.

I actually took a chance on some ibuprofen today as I just couldn't go on with the way my head and muscles are and paracetamol was having no effect. So the headache and muscle aching has eased back but my lung pain feels more pronounced. I'm just so, so, so sick of it. If I was a man I'd probably be better by now as I wouldn't have my stupid period and perimenopausey hormones sticking the boot in. In my head, I'm picturing my cytokines thinking we're under renewed attack and sending my lungs all screwy again as they fight off my stupid period symptoms.

Moodgie · 22/04/2020 18:27

@OneDayAtATime123 Yes, had two inhalations today and a steamy shower. I just want it to go!

Crayfishforyou · 22/04/2020 19:05

I've had a bad couple of hours with breathing this afternoon. No deep breaths possible, not even with yawning and I felt horrible dizzy.
Last week I would have been in bits and would have had to gone to bed by now.
Either I'm getting slightly stronger or it wasn't as bad an attack.
I've also eaten all my dinner this evening.
It might have been brought on by my complete lack of sleep last night. I will be in bed at a proper time. I have four kalms left. I tend to take mine at 3am when I am woken with palpitations after having the most weird and vibrent dreams, drenched in sweat.

LetsBeSensible · 22/04/2020 19:11

@shrodingerskitty all best wishes to you and DH, such a worrying time for you all

@alittleprivacy same, this period is ruining everything. I feel like a total airhead on top of the usual plus cramps.
