I am so demoralised too. It’s like a Groundhog Day I want to snap out of.

Needsomegoodnews · 29/04/2020 11:29

I’ve realised although I can now get up and function during the day it takes me about 2 hours to get up! If I rush it I can’t function. It’s like I wake up and have to slowly wait for my brain fog to lift enough to do stuff (and it’s not like I’m waking early as I struggle to get to sleep in the first place). Or I might just be getting lazy!

Egghead68 · 29/04/2020 11:33

Morning. Day 39/40 and I am ok today after yesterday’s relapse. I think I’m going to have to accept that there will be the odd bad day for quite a while yet.

Thoughts and best wishes to everyone suffering Flowers. I hate this illness.

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 11:56

@needsomegoodnews I need time to get going before I get out of bed in the morning too. I have had to take things really slow due to heart pain being quite intense, doctors aren't concerned but I am. I think I have inflammation round my heart that I trigger with an asthma attack last Wednesday I've noticed it's got worse as j have still been doing chores round the house so I am having to stop and actually rest properly as we have heart conditions in my family I don't want to risk this going wrong.

Lightsabre · 29/04/2020 12:20

@UncomfortableBadger, it was a SureScreen one - looked a bit like a pregnancy test. The Dr said that of the 20% of positive tests recorded (herself included), they all had strong symptoms ie; bad cough, fatigue etc. Although I've had throat and chest problems throughout this, I never really developed a bad cough - it was mostly throat clearing. Had all the other stuff though; lung pain, short of breath, extreme fatigue, loss of taste/smell. Maybe I've had a 'mild' case and didn't develop enough antibodies for the test to pick up. Who knows but I'll test again once the Govt antibody tests are available.

Hi all, I wanted to give an update on day 50!

So last week I was feeling incredibly fatigued, I put it down to post viral fatigue (had all the symptoms) and just assumed the lingering chest pain and palpitations was related. I went to hospital on day 44 because I had a scary moment where I had got stressed about something and had suffered sharp pains in my heart area going into shoulder. GP immediately sent me to be checked. At hospital I had various blood tests, ECG and X ray, all were normal. They sent me home with a diagnosis of 'probable angina' and a spray to use if the pain came back and didn't go quickly upon rest.

I am lucky I have a friend who is a GP, I mentioned this to her and she was not convinced by the angina diagnosis. She said although theoretically possible knowing my health, weight, age etc it was unlikely. She mentioned something called myocarditis and told me to rest rest rest. At this point I booked a consultation with a private cardiologist which I had last night (phone).

During my consultation last night I didn't mention myocarditis, the consultant thoroughly went through all of my (suspected) covid experience, all my previous health, all my current symptoms and then said he thought it likely based on what I am experiencing now that it is myocarditis. The covid infection for me is gone but I have developed something else and am still suffering the post viral aftermath of covid as well.

I want to share my symptoms really to flag up that this can happen and people need to be cautious. He told me he has someone in ICU now with severe myocarditis as a covid complication so it stands to reason there will be less severe cases coming up.

Symptoms now on day 50:

  • fatigue (lessening but there still)
-intermittent sore throat
  • general aches and pains
  • headache in the morning
  • pottering around fine, less requirement to sleep during the day

(all above i believe are post viral symptoms)

Myocarditis symptoms:

  • Palpitations
  • Heart racing, feeling of pounding heart with exertion or during sleep
  • Pain in chest, around heart, left breast area mostly 'dull' but definitely there, for me worse (heavier) if i lie down or exert myself (by that i mean stroll or lift something not run!!)
  • Pain worse at night
  • Sharp pains from time to time but these are only really happening if i do to much now
  • rib ache (this may be post viral, i still have it, not sure if it's myocarditis related or not)

I also:

sometimes get jaw ache and shoulder ache, i feel groggy in the morning like I have a hangover a bit. I am not sure if these are post viral or myocarditis.

I can now choose whether to rest and take ibuprofen and see if it decreases or go for an MRI or Ultrasound which will give a clearer picture on how severe it is, if I need treatment, if there's lasting damage. Because I have had all the tests last week at hospital the consultant was relatively confident it is probably reasonably mild. He cannot be sure without an MRI. That costs a lot of money privately obviously!

I just want to stress that myocarditis is aggravated by exertion. It relates to the heart muscles being inflamed and rubbing against one another. he very strongly advised me (and my DH) not to do anything cardio other than light strolls until all the symptoms have gone and build up very very slowly. My DH has really mild symptoms, he has definitely had covid symptoms around 5 weeks ago but has been much less unwell than me. However he found that when he went or a bike ride or run his heart felt 'odd and pounding' and so i believe he has a very mild case too.

I am sharing this because prior to this illness we were both very fit and well. We are 38, runners/cyclists with low BMI. Non smoking, healthy eaters etc. You would think we would bounce back but that is not the case, especially for me. Please be really cautious. A lot is unknown about the covid recovery and complications. The Drs are learning as they go.

longshot · 29/04/2020 12:25

And i know that is a super long update but I don't come on here so much now and I really wanted to share the info for anyone in these later stages suffering this heart pain.

alittleprivacy · 29/04/2020 12:37

In another few hours I'll be entering week 7! Huzzah!!!! Sad

My chest pain is better than it was in that I no longer wake with the feeling of my upper back being on fire and the ibuprofen combined with Deep Heat definitely has an effect now in dulling the pain. I take it three times a day and feel very little pain when it's working. If I forget to take the final dose in the evening, I'm definitely feeling sore at night. My breathing still isn't at 100%. I struggle a bit when talking, though bizarrely if I'm having a long conversation that sensation lessens. So perhaps I'm just out of practice when talking (it's just me and my 7yo at home) and default to gasping but if I keep talking, I'm forced to relearn normal talking and breathing patterns. I'm just so very sick and tired of this.

mumlurker · 29/04/2020 12:37

@longshot

Thanks for such a detailed update. Pericarditis or myocarditis have crossed my mind as possible complications. Did you get a probably timeframe for recovery?

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 12:38

I like long shot was worried about my heart, mine has been brushed aside as all my stats and obs were fine. I know in my Self it's not so I am echoing her words to rest and not over do it as I carried on and the pain got worse but has still been bruised off.

SimpleKindofLife · 29/04/2020 12:38

That's really interesting @longshot I have all those symptoms at the moment.

I had an ECG at the hospital, which was clear though, and bloods, would it show up on those tests? Do I ask my GP for an MRI? Or just rest up? I sometimes feel like I'm going to have a heart attack! Sad

Starrynightsabove · 29/04/2020 12:39

Those are also symptoms of anxiety though - pounding racing heart & chest pain. I had all those when I suffered from anxiety. They feel very real but they’re not.

ECG and Chest X-Ray are also first tests for it so if these were fine that points to a psychological cause surely?

Starrynightsabove · 29/04/2020 12:40

Link to BHF

Diagnosis is via X Ray, echo and ecg. Doesn’t even mention needing an MRI

fedupofbed · 29/04/2020 12:41

Hi @longshot thank you that is a super helpful update. I must admit I had thought myocarditis but didn't have the confidence to bring it up when I was being checked out, and like you all my tests came back clear.

Could I just ask did you book the appointment directly or through GP referral? And are you finding the ibuprofen helpful?

I'm glad you're feeling a bit better.

fedupofbed · 29/04/2020 12:44

Gosh a flood of replies @longshot you struck a nerve!

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 12:45

I think there is a chance we have noticed it before it has gotten so severe it may be we should just take ibuprofen and rest to recover

SimpleKindofLife · 29/04/2020 12:47

Ibuprofen still scares me! Confused

pinkoneblueone · 29/04/2020 12:52

I have literally just taken some, my husband has gout and has has to take naproxen the doctor said it was ok and he has been taking it for 3 days and seems to be ok.

Starrynightsabove · 29/04/2020 12:53

There’s just a lot of terrified people on this thread being told by doctors - after tests and checks - that there is nothing medically wrong and they have (understandable) anxiety.

For a poster to then talk to someone over the phone and for them to diagnose myocarditis in the absence of any proof or evidence whatsoever when it’s well documented that Myocarditis is very similar to anxiety and hence often missed. Except this poster has had the tests for it.

Everyone else will now panic there’s something wrong with their heart. It’s irresponsible

Egghead68 · 29/04/2020 12:57

Thank you @Longshot. I get pains in that area so I will stop my cycling and stick to gentle walking and non-cardio.

Rosesofeyam · 29/04/2020 12:59

Day 42
I'm managing more around the house.
I'm in the shielding group so can't go out to test my breathing.
I've walked around the garden a few times.
I'm still having to pace myself otherwise I feel my heart is going to come out of my chest. SATS go down to 93 and HR 145. When resting it settles at 98/72.
My asthma was bad yesterday, again today, also coughing/gunky all day. I always get like this when the weather is wet/humid/damp.
I had my first nose bleed in years.
Does anyone have mouth ulcers, I have four large ones. I'm using anbersol
(sp?)and salt wash.

I agree it feels like ground hog day.

SimpleKindofLife · 29/04/2020 13:04

It's actually reassuring to have a reason actually @Starrynightsabove. To be in so much pain and have no medical answers is so hard.

I'm not an anxious person and I've never had a panic attack before. The pain comes on with no rhyme or reason to it. I'm pretty calm most of the time, I just want to get on with getting better!

The doctors are still trying to understand Covid and there are lots of things we still don't know. We need to know the possibilities and share information between us.

Dorual · 29/04/2020 13:05

Wouldn't some inflammation show on blood tests via the hs-crp level if there were notable inflammation in the body?
