Thread for continuing long-term Coronavirus support

OP posts:

Just wondering if any other asthmatics here a long way in? (think its day 55 for me today) am still quite wheezy and using my inhaler (symbicort) double the amount I usually would. Am still a bit breathless and have a bit of chest pain but think that's probably normal as you recover but not sure about the asthma side of it x

pinkoneblueone · 28/04/2020 17:32

@SimpleKindofLife your symptoms to day read like mine I am day 51/52 :( I have had enough now

pinkoneblueone · 28/04/2020 17:42

@tangledyarn I have asthma, day 51/52 here I have been on 2 puffs 4 times a day for a few days as I had an asthma attack last week.

Moodgie · 28/04/2020 17:46

@godhelpusall I don’t think mine is weather related. Felt shit when it was glorious out there as well.

Tangledyarn · 28/04/2020 17:48

@pinkoneblueone Yeah im guessing its probably normal for it to keep affecting asthma for some time maybe, I usually just use symbicort morning and night x2 but am using it x2 twice during the day now as well and have been since week 1 so it's a while.

Egghead68 · 28/04/2020 17:49

@Tangledyarn yes I have severe asthma (in the shielding group) and am on day 38/39

pinkoneblueone · 28/04/2020 17:50

I normally don't have asthma issues but this has has totally thrown me

godhelpusall · 28/04/2020 17:52

@Moodgie yes true. I have been feeling much better but feel a bit crap again today. Hoping it's just weather not yet another relapse

Tangledyarn · 28/04/2020 17:56

@egghead68 Thats rubbish, hopefully it's over and done with now and you can be a but more relaxed about shielding. Mine is moderate, although I also have other health issues which will be contributing to my recovery being so drawn out as I wasnt in good shape to start with, but my asthma rarely bothers me. Am guessing I just need to stay on the increased symbicort until things are a bit better? Although i could probably request some steroids now as ive not had any for a while and am post viral now.

SimpleKindofLife · 28/04/2020 17:59

That's interesting @KatySun. My doctor seemed a bit confused by my symptoms tbh. I don't think a lot of people, including medical, realise yet that some cases are dragging on. I don't think anyone really knows yet Sad

What's a Covid hub?

Egghead68 · 28/04/2020 18:09

Thanks @Tangledyarn. Fun times. My consultant told me to double the dose of one of my inhalers while I had Covid but a second consultant two weeks later told me to stop it as it might do more harm than good. Mind you she also told me to start exercising (when I was flat on my back with fatigue) saying “it can’t make things worse” so I would question her knowledge (although in the plus side she was the only doctor to tell me if would go I for a very long time). Maybe check with your GP about your inhalers?

Regarding shielding, we are told not to let up even if we have had Covid presumably because they are not confident about acquiring immunity.

Meercatmama · 28/04/2020 18:17

When I spoke to doctor yesterday. He said he was sure that both my husband and myself had had covid and that he had seen lots of cases that recovery was long term even one of his friends who was a doctor. He was such a calming influence on me and understood the anxiety I felt and gave me time to talk. He also said that we were over the worse and was post viral but it would take time to recover. Its has been a great help to me yesterday and today with the symptoms of sore throat, cough breathlessness at points and tiredness.

Tangledyarn · 28/04/2020 18:17

@egghead68 Yeah I'm planning to go out for walks when I feel a bit better but will still be following the guidelines. I need a medication review anyway as have almost run out of some other medications so will discuss when they call but have tried skipping a dose and really struggle so am guessing I need to just continue for now!

stayathomegardener · 28/04/2020 18:21

@isitorisntit glad someone else has had the numb nose!
I'm very similar to you symptom wise and on day 46.
I don't believe it is weight related. I'm just over 8st.

SimpleKindofLife · 28/04/2020 18:23

That's good to hear @Meercatmama. The anxiety does get to me, especially late afternoon/evening when my symptoms are at their worst. I've been tempted to ask for something to help with it but I'm not sure if that's a good idea or not. Making do with Kalms atm!

KatySun · 28/04/2020 18:24

It is where they refer you to see an actual medical team if you are not bad enough for hospital, but bad enough that there are concerns which cannot be dealt with over the phone. I am in Scotland.

KatySun · 28/04/2020 18:25

Sorry that was for SimpleKindofLife

SimpleKindofLife · 28/04/2020 18:28

I'm in the healthy bmi range too @stayathomegardener. I could've done more cardio but I am (was?!) very active. I eat very healthily, don't smoke, don't drink much alcohol... i hadn't even had a cold this winter?! I wish I knew why we've all got it for so god damn long.

SimpleKindofLife · 28/04/2020 18:30

@KatySun I'm in south east London, I don't think we have Covid hubs, I might be wrong...

Moodgie · 28/04/2020 18:37

@Meercatmama Thank you for your post. I needed it today. How many days are you? Have you been given any tips/advice?

Porcupineinwaiting · 28/04/2020 19:09

I'm asthmatic and coming up to/on day 40. Its allergic asthma with me though so I am not on a daily inhaler or anything, just need to be careful with colds etc as they tend to go to my chest.

I'm also fat, anaemic and deficient in vitamin D. I'm pretty sure the last is part of why I've been so sick.

stayathomegardener · 28/04/2020 19:31

@Porcupineinwaiting I too have allergic asthma.

But also spent 3 weeks in Lanzarote prior to getting this and alway take vitamin D through the winter too.

Maybe the correlation is there is no correlation! Smile

Countingsheeps · 28/04/2020 19:37

@fedupofbed

How did it go yesterday? Hope you are doing ok xx

Sunshinespacecadet · 28/04/2020 19:47

I’m day 40 and I’m breathless and fatigued. I’m mainly lying down as I feel very ill if I do anything. I have had good days when I thought it was going.
I have a BMI of 18 and I suspect I might have caught it from the gym as a fellow gym goer, who I used to see there every morning died two weeks ago of COVID in our local hospital

pinkoneblueone · 28/04/2020 19:58

@Sunshinespacecadet oh gosh it brings it into perspective how lucky we are to be alive despite all the awful things this virus throws at us.
