Hello Everyone, I found the earlier post when DW was on day 25 and have transferred here to the +30 thread. So sorry that lots of people are in a bad way - I hope our story helps - even if it helps just one person, it will be worth it.
So we both had hot chest symptoms around 5th/10th March - started preemptive isolation & distancing. Temps up to 38 on 20th (our day 14), so went through NHS111 and GP - both said we matched the symptoms of Covid-19 - although we were not tested. Symptoms were hot chest and back between breasts and shoulder blades - felt like we'd drank Deep-Heat, the high temp and fuzzy hearing. No coughing, no breathlessness - just the heat and the temperature.
Day 20 I recovered, but DW felt worse, so re-contacted NHS111 and GP - diagnosed with secondary co-infection in lungs, so prescribed antibiotics. Obviously massive anxiety at this stage - stopped watching news!! Crap sleeping, very hot back and chest - much worse overnight - and just panic all around. Day 25, temp lower just 37.5 and marginally calmer - (found the burning lungs MN thread- thanks!). Carried on hoping it would get better, but still worse overnight and terrified the DW would relapse or worse.
Day 30, up in the night again (!), so tired, dreadful burning middle of chest and back from top to bottom and full width; still no breathing trouble and tempt in low 37s. Back to NHS111 and GP - it is slow through all the menus and triage, but it does work - stay with it. Dr thinks the symptoms now appear to match acid reflux or stomach ulcer and prescribes 'Omeprazole' - didn't see that coming. Anyway, get referral to local Covid Assessment Hub. Nurse practitioner there agrees with acid reflux and advises on 'Gaviscon'.
Day 34 and now taking Omeprazole (20mg once per day) and Gaviscon (after each meal and at bedtime) - AND IT HAS FINALLY WORKED!! Symptoms very much reduced, very slight back warmth overnight - had some sleep!
Our interpretation: Covid first - damages wind and food pipe - stops there in our mild/moderate infection - but acid/anxiety levels increase to cause continuation of burning symptoms - untreated this goes on especially at night - treated, it all reduces.
However, this is just our story - it might not be the same for you, please do not self diagnose based on this. But, it might be worth discussing this with your medical practitioner.
Good luck - stay safe everyone - hope this helps, get well soon.

@longshot sorry that's me above ^ I've still got this weird random username switching going on!!

Moodgie · 12/04/2020 13:01

@longshot I have been doing inhalations with hot water in a bowl but not sure if I can see much difference. I got an inhaler on Friday and used it a few times yesterday and didn’t see any difference either. Has your breathing been worse when lying down?

eyebrowsofinstagram · 12/04/2020 13:02

@Pinkpather40 that's interesting what you say about sugar but it does make sense.

Sugar is an inflammatory, as is wheat, but sugar is probably a bit worse.

So the last thing we want to do is inflame our organs right now

I think garlic and lemons are ant-inflammatory. So now and then I try to have hot water with lemon

OneDayAtATime123 · 12/04/2020 13:06

@Moodgie
I personally don't use Honey or Sugar now since they are 'simple sugars' and get metabolized rapidly.
However, Honey has some antimicrobial properties, that some say makes it effective against colds etc.

Tangledyarn · 12/04/2020 13:09

@pinkpanther40 Yes your symptoms are very familiar and I'm on day 37 (i think! Starting to lose track) x

everythingisginandroses · 12/04/2020 13:12

@Dorual From what I'd been told, I reckoned if I could make it into double figures I'd be ok. Not 100% confident until day 13.

WorriesomeDad · 12/04/2020 13:16

Cheers @longshot @OneDayAtATime glad it’s not just me. It’s frustrating. I don’t feel that far off recovery in myself but the scariest symptoms are the ones that just won’t go away! Hope you both feel better soon.

@Dorual I’m not sure that feeling has gone away yet! Sometimes I feel fine and confident that this will all be over before too long then symptoms return and start worrying about deteriorating, although I have been told that this far in it’s unlikely. Apparently the second week of illness is the riskiest for most people.

Bornlazy · 12/04/2020 13:20

@Wiltsinbed did they think the acid reflux/ulcer was caused by the COVID19 or a completely separate issue? I already take omeprazole as I am prone to reflux but I’ve doubled my dose for now as it wasn’t enough to stop the burning pain.

longshot · 12/04/2020 13:22

@Tangledyarn @Storyofcats are you the same person?

@Moodgie definitely worse lying down. Also prescribed inhaler last week but stopped as gave me bad palpitations

Off to find gaviscon now...!

Egghead68 · 12/04/2020 13:25

@Dorual I stopped worrying about dying so much on Day 15.

@Wiltsinbed yes I have found lansoprazole (similar to omeprazole) helps with the chest burning (I tried it as an experiment).

Tangledyarn · 12/04/2020 13:33

@longshot Yes sorry..its my other cat based name! The site keeps switching me back to an old username and I dont know how to sort it out. Sorry!

Tangledyarn · 12/04/2020 13:43

@Bornlazy me too re omeprazole!

Wiltsinbed · 12/04/2020 13:51

@Bornlazy - The implication was that the Covid crap had caused wall lining damage which left the area prone to acid reflux effects.

Dorual · 12/04/2020 13:53

Thanks all. I'm on day 12 and just starting with the dodgy tummy symptoms. This is new. Low grade temp for 12 days straight.

Moodgie · 12/04/2020 13:59

@Wiltsinbed By wall lining do you mean the windpipe wall?

Wrybread · 12/04/2020 14:25

Has anyone still got a temperature?

fedupofbed · 12/04/2020 14:42

@Wrybread yup tends to be every afternoon for about 4 hours but very low grade (37.8ish)

Wiltsinbed · 12/04/2020 14:43

@Moodgie - We think the theory is that the virus first affects the wind-pipe then moves to co-located areas - i.e. food pipe (or lungs, when going down the really bad route). The burning symptoms are very similar - wind-pipe from the viral infection, and food pipe from acid burn.
All theory though, no hospital testing.

Some explanation from Mayo Clinic on Stomach issues with Covid

kevintheorangecarrot · 12/04/2020 14:53

Feeling very fatigued now and has to guzzle some milk as my heartburn / indigestion is dreadful it's constantly there! I need to get gaviscon but shops near me are closed

kevintheorangecarrot · 12/04/2020 14:54

@Wrybread I feel like I have. Thermometer says 36.1-36.3c at the mo but I feel hot. I took an instant forehead thermometer and that said 36.6c so still not classed as a fever. I honestly think I am going to get one the way I feel :(

TiddleTaddleTat · 12/04/2020 15:15

On day 31 here. Have felt pretty good for the last 5-6 days but then I have been able to rest a great deal.
Have had some emotional stress over the last few days and too much to drink yesterday.
Had a temperature flush earlier and felt very fatigued with aching legs after some gardening.
So having to go back to bed to rest. Surprised how long it has lasted - even though I only ever had mild symptoms and no medical intervention.

JackJackIncredible · 12/04/2020 16:04

I’ve had a temperature for a few weeks, mostly low grade (37.7-38.0) but I had about 5 days of 39 plus.

Kitcat122 · 12/04/2020 16:06

Day 29
I have felt good for a week now except am stuck in the same place with achey lungs and breathlessness. I usually exercise alot so getting me down.
