"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

"coronavirus (in this context) is the novel (new) coronavirus that somtimes causes a flu type illness, sometimes has little or even no symptoms and sometimes, in a small percentage of cases causes the potentially lethal disease Covid-19"

The government are aware that the half of the population who lack critical thinking skills are all over social media screaming for 'a proper lockdown' and think great, we'll wade in and encourage them to all blame each other. Then they won't worry so much about why we aren't giving HCPs proper PPE, or carrying out a useful number of tests.

Sums it up for me.

cactus2020 · 05/04/2020 16:35

Eireni I'd get it all ready to plant and even out some stuff in early while allotments count as exercise. You can then shove in spuds, sets, seeds and hope for the best.

poppadopolis · 05/04/2020 16:44

But are the certificates checked? And then what? Someone might use it more than once?

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

You have to have a new form every time you leave the house.
The form has your name and address - you need to carry ID too.
There are boxes to tick stating your reason.
(You can't just make stuff up and add it on).
You have to put the time that you left home.
Nearest supermarket only.
One person per car.

You can't re-use the form - no writing in pencil and rubbing it out - instant fine. No putting that you are out for shopping and then sneaking in a run. No going to the pharmacy and then popping into the supermarket (unless you have ticked both boxes)

We are in the middle of nowhere. Plenty of Gendarmes out checking (and fining).

vanillandhoney · 05/04/2020 16:47

We are in the middle of nowhere. Plenty of Gendarmes out checking (and fining).

But if you have a copy you've written by hand and it's not checked, what's to stop you writing out another one and going out repeatedly until you're stopped and it's checked?

mooboy · 05/04/2020 16:49

Looking at the pic on the top of Guardian home page - the two cops on horses look like the only humans no respecting social distancing - they can’t be from the same household! Everyone else looks well spaced out.

HeIenaDove · 05/04/2020 16:55

Ive only been going food shopping , putting electric on key meter. And picking up medication.
But i have to WALK into town as we now have a very restricted bus service.

Lookingforwardtomyeastereggs · 05/04/2020 17:10

^*I think some of you are fucking excited about the prospect of people being locked up.

Fucking weirdos you lot.*^

Believe me I'm not. But I agree that some people, a lot of people seem to be absolutely loving it, they're relishing in it.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/04/2020 17:14

you have to have a new form every time you leave the house.

But can't just print out a new form and go out again? And then again?

Not suggesting people should, just what would stop you? Can you only download one certificate a day?

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 17:17

On MN, there has always been an undercurrent of 'telling teacher'

I think it's just part of the authoritarian preferences of the political left (overrepresented on MN).

poppadopolis · 05/04/2020 17:17

But if you have a copy you've written by hand and it's not checked, what's to stop you writing out another one and going out repeatedly until you're stopped and it's checked?

Nothing at all. I go out for a run 3 times a week. I stay within 1km of my house. I rarely see anyone, but I sure as hell take the corectly filled out form and some ID with me as I don't want to get fined 135 euros.

OH has been doing the shopping. His form must have that days date and the time he left home. So no going out at 9am to the shop which is 10km away and then getting stopped at midday with no shopping in the car and/or not on the route from home to the shops. The police round here would soon notice if he was turning up 6 days a week to do shopping.

Genevieva · 05/04/2020 17:17

@Kissenger given that you have picked someone else up on their use of terminology I thought you might be interested to know that Covid-19 is the name for the disease that is suffered by people who get the novel coronavirus. It is not the name of the virus. The virus itself is called SARS-CoV-2.

florisandyoris · 05/04/2020 17:20

I think it’s really sad that all those bus drivers died doing their jobs with no ppe
I’m not using pubic transport but imagine you had no choice as a driver or customer to have to travel on public transport earn money?
I’m disgusted that people are being forced into unnecessary risky situations due to imo mismanagement of resources

bakedbeanzontoast · 05/04/2020 17:21

Great comment @Blakes77 👍🏻

ilovecakeandwine · 05/04/2020 17:21

If everyone obeyed rules we would never have any crime .
Tbh Hancock saying will ban exercise because a minority aren't listening is like banning driving because some people aren't observing the speed limit .
The government should just own it say you need to make further restrictions to slow the death toll don't make out it's down to a few idiots that the police should have dealt with .

mindproject · 05/04/2020 17:24

We all need to be exercising more right now, not less. It is one of the only ways to combat depression. People need to switch off their stupid TVs and have a walk/run/cycle in the sunshine.

I'm going to completely ignore any advice to not exercise outdoors. It's a bullshit rule.

mindproject · 05/04/2020 17:25

And anyone that says I can't go outside is basically a Nazi.

mummmy2017 · 05/04/2020 17:27

Everything is fine and dandy, till someone you love dies because they came into contact with the virus.
Then in your pain you will know how it feels to lose a loved one because of the disregard for others by a selfish person.
That person could be you, you could kill your child because you had no idea they suffered from an ailment that in normal times would have caused them a few days in bed.
I am not willing to risk my family, just so I can go out for 3 hours on a bike ride.

justasking111 · 05/04/2020 17:27

@mindproject

So that would make the Spanish, italians, portuguese and other nations nazis would it. You are an idiot.

Daffodil101 · 05/04/2020 17:29

I’d love to see the science behind this. We are social distancing, schools closed etc. Where is the evidence that stopping people going out for a walk will improve the infection rate?

Honestly, because actually going out for a walk is all we have left. You can’t place the population under house arrest without good reason. Where’s the science to back this up?

Krisskrosskiss · 05/04/2020 17:32

I dont think it will be banned... people would get ill... this lockdown is going to go on a long time... what theyve done in france is that you have to have a form filled in to be outside and you have to present it to the police if they ask for it otherwise you will be escorted home

emilybrontescorsett · 05/04/2020 17:34

This government d another tax on the poor. Just like fining parents for going on holiday in term time, the richer pare rd just pay the fine and go.
I have been out for a long walk today. In normal times I walk, quite a distance to work and back. I also go to the gym and do classes/my own work out plus walking when not at work. I am not a stay at home and sit about person.
I am able to walk in quite, mainly deserted countryside, I also have a garden ( which has never had so much attention) and we have a large private residents green area.
I still think it is wrong to ban people from going out to exercise.
I feel for those who don't have a garden. Those in flats. It must be mind numbing.
What I have noticed is the amount of speeding drivers.
Slow down and stick to speed limits. ( off topic).

Blakes77 · 05/04/2020 17:34

FML. Someone going on a bike ride is not killing children.
Nurses working in CV wards shift after shift with no PPE and no testing is what is putting the whole nation at risk. I realise the media is whipping up this obsession with LOCKDOWN but FFS use your logical mind.

Silvergreen · 05/04/2020 17:35

He's just said it won't happen.

wonderstuff · 05/04/2020 17:36

Hancock has said this afternoon he won't be changing the rules on exercise. Which is the right call imo.
