"Matt Hancock told the BBC's Andrew Marr that the government would "take action" if further measures are needed to bring the coronavirus under control.

It comes after reports of groups of people gathering in parks during sunny weather this weekend."

So do we think this will happen - normally this is how it goes, the threat comes, and a week later it's reality. It's a shame that people still flouted the rules this weekend :(

I can't see a thread on this already but please let me know if there is one!!

Bring back the Derbyshire drones

Absolutely not.

Going after a few people walking their dogs at the top of a hill instead of all those in Richmond yesterday is ludicrous. If you want to stop this, you send the police along to that park and fine each and every person there.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:43

We’re at the beginning what stats are you using? Are you sure there is no lag.

How can you know until the year is over?

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 15:43

What I would like is for people who say die in the same year to substantiate it

They have done.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:43

You can’t have the year is not over.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:44

Show me where then.

hoodathunkit · 05/04/2020 15:44

Just a quick link re a paper on the importance of exercise for strengthening the immune system

www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2095254618301005

There are plenty of other papers out there

Right now we should all be getting as much exercise as possible to strengthen our immune systems, hopefully reduce the risk or severity of Covid-19 and take the strain off the NHS

Just stay safe and keep your distance :)

Out to train for a bit, stay safe everyone :)

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 15:44

Try here for an accessible tour of the figures.

HildegardeCrowe · 05/04/2020 15:45

MH glad to hear it. Some people have no idea how important exercise is to managing mental health symptoms. I’d say it’s going against basic human rights to imprison someone in their home, who relies on a daily walk to stop them from becoming totally incapacitated with depression.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:46

How can people prove numbers for an event that has not yet happened?

You can deflect but I’m asking you to explain your thinking.

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 15:46

Show me where then

X post there, but perhaps reflect on this attitude.

Expecting others to spoon feed you information is perhaps why you are poorly informed on this subject?

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:47

Lol ok don’t then. If you can’t discuss it openly it’s your problem.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:48

Tg for the graph thread where people are insightful and share information. Rather than uttering statements to suit their own agenda.

DressingGownofDoom · 05/04/2020 15:49

This has really annoyed me. The government are aware that the half of the population who lack critical thinking skills are all over social media screaming for 'a proper lockdown' and think great, we'll wade in and encourage them to all blame each other. Then they won't worry so much about why we aren't giving HCPs proper PPE, or carrying out a useful number of tests.

mumto2teenagers · 05/04/2020 15:54

I don’t understand what is so hard for people to understand. We have been taking our dog for a walk in a field near our house which is quite empty. We go early in the morning.

We live near 2 busy London parks, but wouldn’t even consider going to them as 1) we would have to drive which isn’t allowed and 2) it’s obvious on a sunny day too many people would be heading to them.

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 15:54

Lol ok don’t then. If you can’t discuss it openly it’s your problem

I've posted you a link to the information you require, its even in a handy podcast format...

What do you actually want?

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 15:56

It’s fine I’ll go elsewhere and discuss, a level headed information thread is better.

Kissenger · 05/04/2020 15:57

The don't have the man power to enforce the current rules so a blanket ban is easier.

DCOkeford · 05/04/2020 15:58

I agree, its probably best if you do go and have a look at some actual facts before forming your opinion.

I've linked you to a BBC podcast that will help you in this, but you don't seem to be interested.

MarshaBradyo · 05/04/2020 16:00

Iif you recall it was a query for that very reason. To see if anyone had information rather than FFS all over the place.

But I cba continuing the chat so no it’s put me off right now. I’ll revisit maybe later and enjoy this weather.

LoveLongLife · 05/04/2020 16:04

@Eireni Shit. If I can’t get to the allotment over the next few months then that’s an entire year written off of growing my own food it’s peak sowing/planting season. We are also in a flat, allotment is my only outdoor space but it’s a few minutes walk down the road.

I heard allotments are in the same camp as exercising and feeding horses? As in, okay so long as you Social distance.

Srslydontgiveacrap · 05/04/2020 16:11

I think some of you are fucking excited about the prospect of people being locked up.

Fucking weirdos you lot.

vanillandhoney · 05/04/2020 16:12

The don't have the man power to enforce the current rules so a blanket ban is easier.

The difficulty with a blanket ban is some people live in the middle of nowhere with absolutely zero police presence. Who is going to stop them from exercising?

dizzywoman · 05/04/2020 16:17

It's so tough.

I live in a flat floors up with 3 kids and not even a balcony. What upsets me is, I'm sure prisoners get more outdoor time fresh air then my children.

Realistically, how long can this go on for?

When the economy is completely fucked, there will be more deaths and poverty then ever before. Not to mention the mental health crisis and abuse that I'm sure hundreds of thousands of people are suffering now.

billysboy · 05/04/2020 16:23

all the grockles out walking in my area , I feel like putting up a big sign next to the footpath #stayathome FFS
people driving down in a car with a car full and the dog

I live in the Chilterns theres loads of them all parked up the road

Kissenger · 05/04/2020 16:24

@Hoodathunkit Coronavirus is an umbrella term for the type of virus this is. Covid19 is the name for this specific strain of the virus, regardless of progression.
