This is just to let you know I am currently in Sorrento, drinking wine as the sun sets. Today I spent a full day at the museum in Naples (with a long lunch break) and tomorrow I am going to Pompeii.

Tonight's supper will be in one of the many little restaurants along the nearest street and will be accompanied by more wine.

I need to relax as much as possible as next week I am back teaching for my favourite term where kids do lots of exams and we get all the good school trips.

My holiday lasts a full week and I flew, with DH, from Edinburgh yesterday. The flight was great but the airport was very busy and we were too cheap to pay extra so had to sit apart.

The rest of the week is not fully planned but any suggestions welcome.

I’m still boggled about Mr Motivator featuring in a fantasy.
However, we legit decided it was Christmas. It feels like it anyway as we’re all here (dd1 arrived back from uni last weekend), and we’ve nothing to do but eat and play board games. We have two feet of snow in the garden anyway, so we even have a white re-Christmas. And we have a spare pud in the pantry.
We managed to fit in an argument about whether to make mince pies or not, too.
I feel slightly remiss about not making marmalade gin three months ago though...

@@KaptenKrusty - yes, plan is to try for same time next year - want to see the blossom! Plus we'd done all our research... don't think our friends will be there though as they move back to the US later this year

GreyGardens88 · 04/04/2020 18:50

Oh in my corona-free parallel I'd be hopping on a flight to Amsterdam for a long weekend to walk around the Tulip gardens and enjoying a nice few drinks by a canal, maybe a nice bike tour around the city as well

cecinestpasunepipe · 04/04/2020 18:52

I should be in Bali having spent three days in Singapore. I have rebooked the Bali part of the trip for August 2021. Not sure if I'll ever get to Singapore now, the last time I was going there was cancelled too. Luckily my preparations included buying plenty of hand sanitizer and facemasks.
But the disappointment pales into insignificance with everything going on, and I am just glad to be at home with my cats and, even if I can't see them, near my daughters and grandchildren.

sarahC40 · 04/04/2020 18:54

I’m about to start thinking about maybe packing soonish for my trip with some wonderful friends for a few days in Dublin...

Rebooked for the end of August 2020 as they wouldn’t carry it over till later - shall we open a book on the chances of that. Happy dreaming all.

BiddyPop · 04/04/2020 18:54

I am actually sitting in my back garden, G&T in hand, potatoes baking in the oven before the steak goes on the bbq.

Admittedly I spent an hour cleaning. The bbq and we are praying the gas doesn’t run out (we’ve spent 2 years waiting for it to run out to replace - it would be typical if It ran out now when we can’t replace!).

And I am bundled up in a coat to enjoy the fresh air. But while the back garden is in shade, the sun is still shining on the top of the house. And plenty of birds singing. So it’s nice.

I'm in a white-washed villa on a Greek island. It has blue shutters and a blue door, and bougainvillea clambers all over the outside walls. I am sitting at a little blue table, overlooking the sea, and Idris Elba/Fred Serieux/Jason Momoa is inside getting the wine and olives.

Branleuse · 04/04/2020 18:57

I should be in spain next week. If only

Etinox · 04/04/2020 18:57

I’m in New York, so glad I had a pedicure just before we got here as I’m on my feet all day visiting the museums and catching up with friends.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 04/04/2020 18:59

I was going to walk up the Watkins Path up Snowden - we were spending the weekend in a cottage at its foot. And if the sun shone would jump in the pools at the base....and then kayak on Llyn Gwynant.

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 04/04/2020 19:01

I should be in Cape Verde drinking cocktails on a white beach. Instead I'm in my living room in my PJ's with a beer. Could be worse though.

Spacecudet · 04/04/2020 19:03

Go on a road trip along the coast in an open top car. Visit Amalfi, Positano and Ravello. Then take a boat and visit Capri and imagine you're a millionaire. Definitely visit Pompeii, but don't forget to go to Herculaneum.
If you can stretch to it, extend your holiday and spend a week in Ischia. Explore the beautiful gardens and relax in the natural spa pools.
Let me grab my passport, I'm going to jump on a flight and join you.

I'm packing to go to Disneyland Paris, we're going next week for my husbands 50th (that's coincidence, we're going to take the kids in the Easter holiday anyway THEN realised it was his birthday). Really looking forward to it, we're doing a character breakfast and the Princess lunch. I expect my 9 and 11 year olds to be underwhelmed.

Got Disney ears and everything! We're going to look at the WWII fortifications Dover and Calais as DD1 had been doing the war as her topic this term.

potter5 · 04/04/2020 19:06

Flying to Australia tomorrow. Can't wait!

MitziK · 04/04/2020 19:06

We should be sitting, sipping a very large G&T, in the last sun and overlooking the sea, having got off from our first class seats on the train about an hour ago. After this, we would stroll up to the Georgian holiday apartment where we could watch the sailing vessels make their way to harbour from the balcony.

Tomorrow, we would be resting and having a long Sunday lunch with FIL and I'd be looking forward to the fishing trip we were going on Monday morning.

Instead of which, he's half asleep on the settee under a cat and I'm vaguely wondering whether this lower back pain is actually kidney related or not.

Spacecudet · 04/04/2020 19:08

Put down your prosecco, I'll get us a glass of Fiano di Avellino

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 04/04/2020 19:08

You've been on YouTube I take it ? 😂😂😂🙃

swelchphr · 04/04/2020 19:12

I'm meant to be on holiday right now, outside Amsterdam, enjoying the tulip festival for my birthday.

GalactiCat · 04/04/2020 19:15

I'm supposed to be in the Outer Hebrides in the van. Rebooked for August 🤞🚐🌊

rc22 · 04/04/2020 19:18

@swelchphr I was supposed to be going to Amsterdam in the week after Easter. Never mind.

ChilliMayo · 04/04/2020 19:18

I'm at the roof bar of the Machiavelli. The Tuscan hills are falling into shadow to my left, and the Duomo is glowing on my right. The swifts are..swiftly swooping around.
The nice waiter is on duty and he has been very generous with the nuts and olives.

AngryBananaSund · 04/04/2020 19:19

OP, you simply must go to the Foreigners club, they have the most amazing views. We were there last night and had a very palatable bottle of Complete Bolloxs while we watched the sun go down

FeltCarrot · 04/04/2020 19:20

I’ve just taken the cable car up Table Mountain and am about to go to a little cafe with live music for dinner. Tomorrow I’m going to see the penguins at Boulders Beach.
Trying to get through to the insurance company is fruitless atm. 😢

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 04/04/2020 19:21

Well I am raising a glass to you from my luxury appartment on the French riviera. Just waved to George Clooney (I just call him George) as he jogged by on the boulevard in front. We're taking our yacht for a cruise tomorrow around the Mediterranean.

coronasucks · 04/04/2020 19:24

We have been playing this game all week. Currently i should be asleep in a beachside bungalow in koh Samui. Tomorrow we were going to go on a boat trip and wander round the night market in the fisherman's village in the evening.

In reality I'm soaking up the sunshine in Cornwall so it could be an awful lot worse.
