This is just to let you know I am currently in Sorrento, drinking wine as the sun sets. Today I spent a full day at the museum in Naples (with a long lunch break) and tomorrow I am going to Pompeii.

Tonight's supper will be in one of the many little restaurants along the nearest street and will be accompanied by more wine.

I need to relax as much as possible as next week I am back teaching for my favourite term where kids do lots of exams and we get all the good school trips.

My holiday lasts a full week and I flew, with DH, from Edinburgh yesterday. The flight was great but the airport was very busy and we were too cheap to pay extra so had to sit apart.

The rest of the week is not fully planned but any suggestions welcome.

Should be in Naples right now, after having driven down via Switzerland, Milan and Rome, like we have done for the past few years. Next year instead maybe :-)

MaddieElla · 04/04/2020 18:32

Well I was in Naples last June and it was anything but serene so I am ruining your fantasy and adding a mugging and an infestation of rats to go with your supper this evening. Grin

I am supposed to be in a hotel in Manchester eating my weight in carbs ready for the marathon tomorrow. Instead I am in my pjs waiting for DH to bring me my BBQd food.

We would have been back in Cornwall today. Hopefully can rearrange for later on in the year. Would have been back in the cottage by the sea. And it’s forecast to be glorious weather this week too.

notalwaysalondoner · 04/04/2020 18:32

I’m at a friend’s hen party, I’ve known her since we were babies as our mums had been friends for decades. We went on holiday together as families for years. We’re having so much fun staying in a beautiful cottage in the West Country, enjoying the unseasonably sunny weather. I’m feeling pretty delicate from the drinks last night but shall pull my socks up and get onto my fifth gin and tonic, for her sake...

minipie · 04/04/2020 18:32

I’ve just got back from taking the kids skiing for the first time. They loved it and the weather was amazing. My thighs are killing me though and I’ve eaten a shedload of cheese.

Ah well, at least we have sun here...

Quartz2208 · 04/04/2020 18:33

We should have been having a lovely lunch today to celebrate my Nans 96th birthday and then we had treated ourselves to a night in a nice Hotel nearby before starting the holidays tomorrow

Melroses · 04/04/2020 18:33

Shall we meet for a few drinks once I get back from Pompeii and have eaten a rich chocolate gelato in one of those really dark crispy ice cream cones

Strange, but you can get your ice cream in the middle of Pompeii - and pizzas ...….

AliasGrape · 04/04/2020 18:34

We should be in the Lake District for a family wedding which we were combining with a long weekend away.

Right now I’m having the best time catching up with siblings and cousins and looking forward to dancing the night away before retiring to our beautiful guest house on the lake, looking forward to a full cooked breakfast tomorrow. I might even be drinking champagne (not really as 5 months pregnant but if I can imagine away Covid I can make champagne positively encouraged in pregnancy).

laloue · 04/04/2020 18:35

We are in a cottage deep in Carmarthenshire, having spent the day shopping in Cardiff (and last night visiting our old haunts).Tomorrow we are off to Laugherne to The Owl and Pussycat and then going home to celebrate DH’s birthday on Monday...I loved it when a Saturday off working in retail was a real treat...

Cismyfatarse1 · 04/04/2020 18:35

@dontcallmelen The ferry sounds like a great idea. I will book that in for Tuesday and accompany it with a glass of prosecco and a raspberry gelato.

Glad to know I won't go hungry in Pompeii either.

I am trying not to worry about putting on too much holiday chub - what with all the gelato and alcohol.

Herculaneum is fab!

If you’re going to combine a visit there with a trip up Vesuvius, then take a jumper and sturdy shoes, as it can be a bit cold up there, and the path is smooshed up lava.

Also, check out Pasta Restaurant in Sorrento. Amazing food!

GreyGardens88 · 04/04/2020 18:38

I can taste the Limoncello now

HelloDulling · 04/04/2020 18:38

It’s my birthday next Weds, so we’re away this weekend with friends, staying in a lovely boutique place in west Wales while my mum looks after the kids. We got here early afternoon and sat outside reading the papers with a cup of tea. Now enjoying a gin in the bar, going in to dinner in a little while, it’s a tasting menu, which I’m looking forward to. Tomorrow we’re going to the beach and out for brunch.

sadforthekoalas · 04/04/2020 18:38

We are at bluestone, we've just been making sandcastles on the beach at saundersfoot and will be having fish and chips for tea from the little van. Tomorrow morning we'll have a swim in the lazy river

40somethingJBJ · 04/04/2020 18:41

I should be in my caravan in the Peak District with my ds. We’d just about be firing up the bbq and I’d be opening a nice bottle of rose. Instead, I’m sat watching tv and eating a Creme Egg!

Redbrook · 04/04/2020 18:41

I’m getting my glad rags on to go out with 6 other couples to my favourite restaurant to celebrate my big birthday.

Instead I’m eating the Aldi version of smarties and watching some rubbish DH has found on Netflix. Never mind, we’re all doing a Skype quiz later and we can drink gin together.

worldsworststepfordwife · 04/04/2020 18:42

I’m packing to go to Copenhagen on Tuesday

PyongyangKipperbang · 04/04/2020 18:43

I am in Northern France at the moment, but next weekend we fly out to LA and pick up our Winnebago fora 6 week road trip to Florida where we will spend the next 2 weeks at the parks.

Eating at a little bistro with DP tonight, got a BBQ for tomorrow. As there are 20 of us holidaying, we cant eat out every night!

MsTSwift · 04/04/2020 18:45

Dd on her first ever ski trip with all her friends in the alps on the Italian border. Dh and I are at a massive fun 50th with all our friends. Life is good - in our corona parallel life. We are actually watching gogglebox and ordering a takeaway

I8toys · 04/04/2020 18:45

Stop it. In an alternate universe (ie BC before corona), we were supposed to fly to Berlin and travel to Dresden, then 2 days later travel to Leipzig, and then onto Nuremberg and then 2 days later onto Munich.

I should be packing and panicking now but alas I am not. But thankful that we are all well and that there are worse issues in the world at the moment.

Lulu1919 · 04/04/2020 18:45

Cornwall

sonjadog · 04/04/2020 18:46

I came home from the university town where I work yesterday for the Easter holidays, so today I did what I would have done - that is give the house a good clean to start the Easter holiday off. We didn't have big plans, but a couple of days in the mountains, or meeting friends for coffees in town would be happening. Also, a trip to the cinema. Going swimming.

Notesfromalankywoman · 04/04/2020 18:46

Meant to be quaffing cocktails and enjoying one of the world’s most iconic sunsets at the Cafe Del Mar accompanied by a soundtrack of Balearic beats with my family. Not sure if the teenagers are disappointed or relieved that they won’t have to suffer their smashed parents attempting to smuggle them into Space 😁

dontcallmelen · 04/04/2020 18:47

Yy Vesuvius but can get a bit chilly, also check out the bar at the Hotel Bristol has an amazing view of the bay.
