Mine are

  • Individually, we’re each pretty insignificant
  • A lot of day to day shit really doesn’t matter
  • There’s somethings that are so far beyond our control it’s pretty much incomprehensible
  • There's an awful lot of selfish fuckers out there who think rules don’t apply to them
  • There’s an awful lot of people out there who put others before themselves and do what they can to help

@BeetrootRocks

Being expected to obey a few laws that doubtlessly save lives isn’t quite the same as living under Pol Pot.

If you think that the current situation is a totalitarian regime, read some history. The chances of government henchmen coming to kill you in the middle of the night are, thankfully, rather slim at present.

  • that nothing good comes from eating animals
  • that humans really have fucked up this planet for other species
  • that the air feels much cleaner now travel is locked down

It's taught me how quickly things can change and that nothing is certain.

Also that people are inherently selfish and grabby.

Certain groups of people are incredibly entitled and lacking in gratitude

Many people lack empathy or emotional intelligence

It's also taught me how great it is to have family time and let children play and learn at home.

It's also taught me to really value the nhs and it's wonderful brave staff.

I also really value my liberty.

Minutewaltz · 03/04/2020 22:52

Police roadblocks are now normality.

Really? I haven’t seem any but then I haven’t driven very far.

TheJoyofBeingSingle · 03/04/2020 22:52

Wine is a gift from the gods.

fodderbeet · 03/04/2020 22:53

How incredibly privileged we are. I knew that we are, but realising that we have doctors in the family, friends that run pharmacies and food wholesalers, lots of local food producers selling at the farm Gate, friends that are heating engineers, electricians, a mechanic lives next door. We always have full cupboards and a big chest freezer still with winter stocks of milk, meat, fruit and veg. Acres of space, animals to care for to keep us grounded

fodderbeet · 03/04/2020 22:53

So, so, lucky.

cheeseislife8 · 03/04/2020 22:55

I asked my DH this yesterday. His response?

"Dirty stuff goes in the laundry basket".

It's a win, not going to lie

Bearbehind · 03/04/2020 22:58

PMSL cheese 😂

That the Blitz spirit was probably a working class phenomena. Middle class Britain is largely dour and disapproving of community and humour.

That , even when given all the time in the world, I have a remarkable ability to waste time.

I used to constantly say "There's not enough hours in the day" but turns out its just me. I can still lose an entire day and accomplish nothing.

BlueJava · 03/04/2020 23:01

That one of my sons must have hated school - much happier now.
Both DS are remarkably sensible when it matters
Wfh is wonderful, really enjoy it.

DamsonDress · 03/04/2020 23:03

I'm sorry FAQs. Flowers

BeetrootRocks · 03/04/2020 23:03

I didn't say this was a totalitarian regime Hmm

I said 'How ordinary people got behind totalitarian regimes.'

Quite different.

Samtsirch · 03/04/2020 23:07
  1. To not take so much for granted.
  2. That the grass isn’t always greener.
  3. To count my blessings.
recycledbottle · 03/04/2020 23:12

That I love being a Mum. That some people expect constant smypathy. I know a few people who expect phonecalls to get them through this difficult time without any concept that it is a difficult time for others too. It is just them that needs support. It has hightlighted to me that some people always demand support but never offer it. That some people can cope extremely well with stress whilst others are crumbling. That worrying about all the children in bad homes dealing with the lockdown has been my dominent concern and I dont know why.

mrbob · 03/04/2020 23:15

I knew I was a total introvert but not being able to have hugs from my friends makes me realise how lonely it is without ANY physical contact (single, live alone)

I am very lucky to have a job both for social and financial reasons

That it is very very easy to take our freedoms away. I trust our government to give them back once this is done but you can see how easily things can slide

Everyone wants someone to blame and be angry at (including me) but there is no one person or group

Wehttam · 03/04/2020 23:18
  • I love and miss my family

-Most people play by the rules but the ones who won’t spoil it for everyone else.

  • I’m good at dealing with hard situations
  • How much I loved my normal boring little pre-virus life
  • Interacting with strangers was a privilege I took for granted
  • Money means fuck all when you can’t have or do anything
  • Shop workers/ services are brave people and deserve a lot of credit
  • The NHS is god
  • Teachers are worth their weight in gold
  • paying for gym membership was money down the drain when I can exercise outside and at home to better effect
  • I love and miss my colleagues a lot
  • I have the best DP I could ever wish for even though they drive me mad sometimes (possible ADHD)
Sarahandco · 03/04/2020 23:19

That I used (2 weeks ago) to buy so much unnecessary crap every day!

TheSandman · 03/04/2020 23:20

That I was right to have prepped.

Wehttam · 03/04/2020 23:20

Amen! Sarah what the F did we waste our money on? For what reason? 🤯

Wehttam · 03/04/2020 23:22

Thesandman I was going to type that but I didn’t because it’s triggering for some here 👀🤐 but yes, thank GOD I bought Alpro Oat milk when it was £1 in February 😅

Ghoulasha · 03/04/2020 23:22

How much I hate my life.

bluejelly · 03/04/2020 23:24

How lucky I am to have a decent salary in a secure industry

Trees2905 · 03/04/2020 23:28

That I really love my DP.
That my little girl needs a bit more time as naughtiness is sometimes attention seeking.
