And we'd have been in lockdown for 3 weeks, does that mean lockdown is likely to end within the next 4-6 weeks? Or sooner? Could the kids be back at school before May half term?

I can't see us having an exit strategy 4-6 weeks from now.

So lockdown started... 20 March?
Persons exposed that day, typical 5 days to show symptoms -> 30 March
11 days managing 'mild' illness at home -> 10 April
8-10 days in hospital by which time they die or get well enough to get home -> about 19 April

And everyone they exposed in their own homes gets sick next, so that's another wave to work thru, about 7 days behind -> 26 April

I guess that would be perfect situation, if no one got exposed outside their own homes after lockdown started. I don't think perfect is happening, though.

lljkk · 03/04/2020 19:19

ha! my math is rubbish. You're trying to catch the wind, anyway, OP.

LavenderQuartz · 03/04/2020 19:19

all this fuss over "the kids" going back to bloody school!!!

accept that they are off!! everyone seems to hate having the responsibility for their children

they won't be back anytime soon! face reality

GoldenOmber · 03/04/2020 19:22

Nobody knows when the schools are reopening. Unlikely to be for the next couple of months, who knows beyond that. The government’s exit strategy for lockdown is somewhat unclear but at some point it’s going to have to come up with one. Schools in much of Hubei in China are reopening now.

everyone seems to hate having the responsibility for their children

yeah, it’s a barrel of laughs home educating them while working full time, can’t imagine why people aren’t cherishing every minute.

sweetkitty · 03/04/2020 19:23

I reckon the whole of April will be lockdown then they will look and see the numbers with maybe a partial lockdown after that. But no schools back before the Summer.

Emcont · 03/04/2020 19:23

@LavenderQuartz - In my case it isn't about having the responsibility of having to look after my children, I'm sad for my youngest who is in reception. She's going to miss the rest of her first year and all the firsts that come with it, and that is sad. We're allowed to 'grieve' what they're missing.

Saying that, I hope they don't go back until September. Any earlier would be too soon!

LegoBloodyHurts · 03/04/2020 19:25

No, I highly doubt they’ll be back that soon. I suspect if they open schools too soon, we will get another wave in the pandemic.

NeverTwerkNaked · 03/04/2020 19:25

I don't hate having responsibility for my children. But I hate seeing them miss their friends. And I am finding it incredibly hard to WFH and keep them happy. My job is 10x as pressured now as I work "Behind the scenes" in a job supporting front line work. So everything is hugely new and complex now.

NeverTwerkNaked · 03/04/2020 19:26

Interestingly the regulations are drafted to enable a series of lock downs and reopenings...

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/04/2020 19:26

@LavenderQuartz because a lot of people are still having to work full time from home and it's difficult to do that with young children around.

They won't be back at school before May half term OP.

EasyTarget · 03/04/2020 19:27

All my appointments seem to be rebooking for June, so I'm guessing maybe then if we're lucky.

chaosisaladder · 03/04/2020 19:27

That peak means more people, we don’t even know if you or I are going to be amongst them yet, are going to die

Bollocks to the schools right now

Delatron · 03/04/2020 19:28

Well they’re going to want a second wave in August surely rather than release everyone in September and have the second peak in Autumn and flu season?

I wouldn’t rule out a relaxing of lockdown in June/July and August and then maybe another briefer lockdown going into winter.

All these ‘September’ claims seem silly. Why would you want the second wave to be in autumn?

But the government doesn’t even know so neither does anyone on here....

newwnamme · 03/04/2020 19:29

Noone wants this to be over more than me but it is foolish naivete to think schools will be back by may half term. Have you listened to what the medical people have been saying? It's going to be like this for the foreseeable. It would be an extremely good outcome at this point for anything resembling normality to be reinstated by September. Time for a reality check.

Frankiecandle · 03/04/2020 19:30

The Op was only asking. No need for some people to be so bloody rude.

Snowflakes1122 · 03/04/2020 19:30

Bollocks to the schools right now agree with you on that. I have four kids at home, and as much as we are all climbing the walls, safety is first on this.

Dreamersandwishers · 03/04/2020 19:32

So, in Scotland ; today’s bulletin made it clear that our ‘peak’ will not be by Easter. I think looking at the stats, that’s the same for most of the country outside London.
My sister’s a teacher. She’s planning on August if we are lucky...

newwnamme · 03/04/2020 19:35

And @LavenderQuartz do you actually have any children? Or a job? Because I'm sorry you're lying if you're telling me it's been a breezy, cheerful time trying to do the work at least two people simultaneously. Most people feel stretched every which way, like they are letting down their employers / colleagues / clients AND being a shit parent. Not to mention the fact that none of us signed up for parenthood under the rules of a lockdown. So how about you fuck off with your dismissive remarks. You're adding nothing here.

Floooopy · 03/04/2020 19:39

The school's may think anything - but they have no idea, it's just guesswork. 'Schools' saying they won't be back until September have no more information than anyone here making their guesses. School leaders find out the latest info along with everyone else. They found out that they were closing except for key workers while watching the news along with everyone else.

Russellbrandshair · 03/04/2020 19:42

@LavenderQuartz
What an ignorant and stupid thing to say. I have second hand embarrassment for you. I’m an essential worker. I work in health. Do you realise how stressful it is juggling their homework with having to support vulnerable people on the front line? It has nothing to do with no taking responsibility. It’s stress and worry I might pass it onto them. But carry on with your stupid assumptions. Talk about ignorant....

AmelieTaylor · 03/04/2020 19:45

How many threads do we need asking the same stupid question. Listen to ALL of the news, not just the one line that appeals to you.

NO kids will not be back in MAY.
