And we'd have been in lockdown for 3 weeks, does that mean lockdown is likely to end within the next 4-6 weeks? Or sooner? Could the kids be back at school before May half term?

I am a teacher and working from home is harder than I imagined - so much harder than teaching in front of a class when now you have to type a reply to every question - it takes so much longer to do a 'lesson' than in person. Marking on Google classroom also takes longer but I believe children are being taught well. Realistically, we will not be back in the classroom until August. I am gong nuts working from home, as are the pupils. My own kid are going nuts too but these are extraordinary times and we are in lockdown. I think we have to just try to cope with what's going on and hope we don't get ill.

MargotB7 · 03/04/2020 20:03

I don't want the schools to open till September. The thought of my teenager being around all those people terrify me. They are large gatherings.

I also thought it could be as long as 12 weeks lockdown.

Feel free to be rude and nasty.

Is there a part of the word some you don't understand.
It means not everybody
HTH.

AliciaJohnson · 03/04/2020 20:04

@BlackNoir Have you read why the OP wanted to know the answer to this? Doing a vital job doesn't mean you have any more right than anyone else to jump to conclusions without RTFT (or at least the OP's posts).

LavenderQuartz · 03/04/2020 20:04

@BlackNoir yes i'm sick of it too....sorry to hear about your colleagues, thats bloody horrific for you!

my kids are working too. youngest doing schoolwork but i'm not bothered about the structure or quality of it at this point. A lot of people will die, reality is some classmates and teachers will be amongst those.

look after your kids and dont stress over bloody schoolwork, its not as important as people think! it really isn't

AliciaJohnson · 03/04/2020 20:05

@beautifulteeth Suggest you RTFT too.

LavenderQuartz · 03/04/2020 20:06

@beautifulteeth september? you could be right

AliciaJohnson · 03/04/2020 20:07

And you, @LavenderQuartz

SleepingStandingUp · 03/04/2020 20:08

My colleagues are risking and losing their lives over this and people are worried about school ffs! thank you for everything you and your colleagues are doing, genuinely. However i;m allowed to worry about my child. I don't expect you to give a damn but it's a bit silly telling people that they aren't allowed to be concerned about anything except if they and their kids will die as someone alluded to up thread, or that i can't worry about m,y child because of the sacrifice you and your colleagues are making

I also don't get the Facebook posts about as soon as lockdown is lifted herds of people will be running out hugging and kissing. I won't be, sod that.

girlicorne · 03/04/2020 20:09

Such a harsh comment, I love having my children at home and I take full responsibility for them but I am very worried about the impact the lack of socialising, exercise and proper taught lessons is having on their mental heath, their physical health and their long-term academic prospects as I am sure most parents are. It's not about not wanting them at home, it's about worrying about all of the normal childhood things they are missing out on. I feel full of despair when I think this is it for year 5 and year 7 and they won't be back until September.

Angelw · 03/04/2020 20:10

Op for me It’s the not knowing that’s worrying. Are we likely to get a second wave? Another lockdown?
Herd immunity is the likely way forward.

Mumto1girl3boys · 03/04/2020 20:10

@fascinated is there any need for that?

MonkeyToesOfDoom · 03/04/2020 20:12

The point of lockdown is to slow the spread of new infections drastically and immediately.

But they always said it would take weeks to see the effect of lockdown and distancing, it would never be immediate.

Angelw · 03/04/2020 20:12

I think September for schools, all depends though on what happens before then.

fascinated · 03/04/2020 20:12

What, the gallows humour.? Some people cope that way. So, yeah.

GoldenOmber · 03/04/2020 20:13

But they always said it would take weeks to see the effect of lockdown and distancing, it would never be immediate.

Yes, it takes weeks to see the effect. The spread starts to slow immediately, but we don't see the effects for weeks.

Mascotte · 03/04/2020 20:15

@Devlesko what a ridiculous comment. I am a single parent with no work now so no income- I love my child dearly, but that doesn’t solve the fact that I’ll have no money!

GoldenOmber · 03/04/2020 20:16

I don't know many people who work for 'surplus money', and none of the people I know who are currently juggling work with having children at home are doing it because they fancy buying a new Faberge egg more than they value their children's well-being.

BedisBliss · 03/04/2020 20:16

But isn't the point that all our children are missing out - so many are worried about results and whether they will get into uni..so many are already worried about their first exam year and whether they will be disadvantaged. I don't really want to say it again but - extraordinary times - so maybe kids have to make do with socialising within the family. This is serious so if you must, forget about the school work and love your children and spend time with them and know the whole world is suffering in the same way. All kids are going to have to adjust and it will take more than one educational year to get over this.

LavenderQuartz · 03/04/2020 20:16

@mascotte i'm pretty sure theres a benefits system for you to access?

SleepingStandingUp · 03/04/2020 20:17

Why do some people think the peak is in Easter? They said 12-14 weeks 2/3 weeks ago. cos i listened to the Govt briefing today

Your reception aged child won’t be academically left behind, it’s way too early in their education for any serious impact it;s just cos he started in nursery non verbal, hating all the other kids, and started this Sept considered a year behind at best. the thought of them all being back at school and mine home for months more scares me. Clearly not as much as us both dying from Clovid 19 or as much as my friends having insufficient protective equipment at work, but i just worry that i cannot emulate all the extra support he gets normally.

Thank you for the sensible replies, even the ones telling me i'm stupid. For the ones who assume i'm just a shit Mom trying to palm my kid off at the earliest opportunity, perhaps consider why that's your first assumption and what that says about you rather than me.

And @LavenderQuartz I live having my child at home but he is missing his friends and the fun of the last year at primary: it’s not about me, it’s about him

Oneliner · 03/04/2020 20:19

September? We'll be lucky.

Trajectoryoflife · 03/04/2020 20:20

@LavenderQuartz my child (like millions out there) is a 5 year old only child. He won’t see another kid for 6 months!
I love having him home. He’s awesome. But video calling his friends isn’t enough and I’m actually quite a relaxed person - but this actually worries me!
