Hi everyone, wanted to get some feedback on the pain side of the virus because I don't know what to make of how it has affected me so far. Which makes me wonder if it is the virus or something else (like, something serious that won't necessarily go away, like a virus will eventually).
People on these threads have talked about lung pain and burning lungs, or chest pain, and some have mentioned upper back pain, kidney pain, etc. My experience has been that for quite a while before I got all this pain I had a productive cough that went on for weeks. Also had lots of ulcers and burning pain in my mouth and gums. Then on Tuesday 17th of last month I suddenly felt some sharp soreness in my thoracic spine that happened while I was out and made walking a bit painful. Later that day the pain had spread to the right hand side of my ribcage and was stopping me from moving as freely as I usually do. Since that day, I've had very little in the way of a cough, no fever (occasional bit of night sweats is the closest I've come), no temperature as far as I'm aware (but no thermometer either). I've been breathless on exertion near the beginning of the pain when I tried to carry heavy shopping from the bus stop to my front door and had to keep stopping every few yards to rest and get my breath back. Some resting breathlessness but mostly not enough to make me panic. But oh my god the pain
It has mostly gone between my right hand ribs and the middle of my thoracic spine, occasionally moving down my spine and into the left ribs (but not as much). I've had 'core' pain around my diaphragm/solar plexus area too. If I sneeze or cough it pulls excruciatingly on sheets of muscle on the right of my spine and they 'lock' or cramp - just as if I move the wrong way my mid-spine and right ribcage seize up and I'm in agony deep breathing to try to release the cramps in the muscles. I've had lots of problems going from lying down to sitting up without sending searing pain shooting through my ribs, and from standing to sitting and vice versa. It feels like my bones are broken (from past experience in those areas I know the feeling!) but how can they be? I've done nothing to hurt them.
Anyway, 17 days on from the onset of pain I had possibly the roughest night after a relatively easier day until, late yesterday evening I moved the wrong way twice and the muscles between my spine and right ribs locked again (the pain makes me cry out some very choice phrases!) and then throughout the night I woke up feeling like my back was peppered with bullets.
Because of past history of osteoporosis and T8 and rib fractures GP was happy to send me for an x-ray, but then we agreed there was no real point at the moment because they would only send me home to manage the pain anyway, and I might have exposed myself to the virus in the process. But I think this is the virus, there's nothing else that could explain it. And yet I feel like I'm in the dark even so, because when people say they have lung pain or back pain on here, do they mean the kind of intense pain that stops you from moving because it feels like your muscles have seized up? And if so, any light on the horizon?! Because I'm really struggling now, waking up every day unable to get up easily, unable to do lots of things without either risking or actually causing frightening levels of back and rib pain. But no persistent cough and not a great deal of trouble breathing. I'm absolutely stumped, and the depression is getting to me now being cooped up all on my own for what feels like forever
